The aim of this study is to review the literature to find out the exact etiology of anastomotic cancers of colon post resection and differentiate them between a recurrence, second primary, and metastatic disease (local manifestation of systemic disease). Web-based literature search was done, and datas collected. We searched PubMed for papers using the keywords colon cancer recurrence, anastomotic recurrence, and recurrent colon carcinoma. We also searched for systematic review in the same topic. In addition, we used our personal referrence archive. Anastomotic recurrences of colon are postulated to arise due to inadequate margins, tumor implantation by exfoliated cells, altered biological properties of bowel anastomosis, and missed synchronous lesions. Some tumors are unique with repeated recurrence after repeated resection. Duration after primary surgery plays a major role in differentiating recurrent and second primary lesions. Repeated recurrences after repeated resections have to be considered a manifestation of systemic disease or metastatic disease due to the virulence of the disease. A detailed analysis and study of patients with colonic anastomotic lesion are required to differentiate it between a recurrent, a second primary lesion, and a metastatic disease (local manifestation of a systemic disease). The nomenclature is significant to study the survival of these patients, as a second primary lesion will have different survival compared to that of recurrent lesions.  相似文献

Tracheoesophageal fistula after blunt trauma is very rare. Typically the patient is a young male driving a car and is thrust onto the steering wheel following sudden deceleration as in a high speed road traffic accident. In our case that victim is a motorcyclist who fell down on his right side and developed such a fistula after 3 days. We report the clinical summary and a brief review of literature.  相似文献

ObjectiveAn attempt has been made to evaluate the mitochondrial protection in acute and chronic periods after isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial-infarction (MI) in male Wistar rats.Materials and methodsLuteolin was supplemented by intra-gastric intubation at a daily dose of 0.3 mg/kg body weight for 30 days. In the acute MI model, luteolin had been administered once per day to rat groups during 30 days. On 29th and 30th days, the rats of the acute MI control groups were administered 85 mg/kg body weight, isoproterenol, intra-peritoneally at an interval of 24 h. In the chronic MI model luteolin was supplemented to the rat group during 30 days. On the 1st and 2nd days, the rats of the chronic MI control and luteolin treatment groups were administered ISO by the same way.ResultsThe isoproterenol-treated rats both in acute and chronic models showed an increase in the level of TBARS and a decrease in the activities of mitochondrial antioxidants in MI rats, an increase in levels of mitochondrial lipid profile except phospholipids and the activities of mitochondrial enzymes were decreased in isoproterenol-treated rats. Oral treatments with luteolin in both acute and chronic models showed a significant decrease in the levels of mitochondrial lipid peroxidation, increase in the mitochondrial antioxidant levels and also decrease in the mitochondrial enzymes.ConclusionThus the present study revealed that luteolin ameliorates mitochondrial damage in isoproterenol induced myocardial infarction by maintaining lipid peroxidation metabolism due to its free radical scavenging, mitochondrial lipids, antioxidants and mitochondrial enzymes. Histopathological observations were also in correlation with the biochemical parameters.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Sarcolipin (SLN) is a novel 31-amino-acid protein associated with the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) whose function in cardiac muscle is poorly defined. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that SLN is a regulator of SR Ca(2+) transport function by overexpressing SLN in adult rat ventricular myocytes which express low levels of SLN. METHODS: Expression of SLN mRNA in rat tissues was analyzed by Northern blot as well by RT-PCR analysis. To define the role of SLN in cardiac muscle contractility, we overexpressed SLN in adult rat ventricular myocytes using adenoviral gene transfer techniques. Localization of SLN in the adult rat ventricular myocytes was determined using confocal microscopy. Myocyte contractility and calcium transients were measured using edge detection and Fura 2AM. RESULTS: Our results demonstrate that overexpression of SLN decreased the cell shortening significantly when compared to control myocytes, whereas the time to peak contraction was not altered. In addition, SLN overexpression prolonged the time of 50% relaxation. Calcium transient analysis shows that time to 50% decay of [Ca(2+) ]i was markedly prolonged in SLN-overexpressing myocytes (control -245.0+/-3.78 vs. SLN -199.0+/-3.25 ms, p<0.001). However, there were no significant differences in peak amplitudes of [Ca(2+)](i) between SLN-overexpressing and control myocytes. We further demonstrate that SLN is localized within the SR membrane similar to PLB and SR Ca(2+) ATPase. Co-immunoprecipitation studies indicate that SLN can physically interact with phospholamban. CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that SLN may play an important role in regulating the SR calcium ATPase pump, possibly by interacting with phospholamban.  相似文献

Tryptophanyl-tRNA synthetase (TrpRS) is an interferon-induced phosphoprotein with autoantigenic and cytokine activities detected in addition to its canonical function in tRNA aminoacylation. The availability of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) specific for TrpRS is important for development of tools for TrpRS monitoring. A molecular characterization of two mAbs raised in mice, using purified, enzymatically active bovine TrpRS as the inoculating antigen, is presented in this report. These IgG1 antibodies are specific for bovine, human and rabbit but not E. coli TrpRS. Immunoreactivity and specificity of mAbs were verified with purified recombinant hTrpRS expressed in E. coli and TrpRS-derived synthetic peptides. One of the mAbs, 9D7 is able to disaggregate fibrils formed by Ser32-Tyr50 TrpRS-peptide. Epitope mapping revealed that disaggregation ability correlates with binding of 9D7 to this peptide in ELISA and immunocytochemistry. This epitope covers a significant part of N-terminal extension that suggested to be proteolytically deleted in vivo from the full-length TrpRS whereas remaining COOH-fragment possesses a cytokine activity. For epitope mapping of mAb 6C10, the affinity selected phage-displayed peptides were used as a database for prediction of conformational discontinuous epitopes within hTrpRS crystal structure. Using computer algorithm, this epitope is attributed to COOH-terminal residues Asp409-Met425. In immunoblotting, the 6C10 mAb reacts preferably with (i) oligomer than monomer, and (ii) bound than free TrpRS forms. The hTrpRS expression was shown to correlate with growth rates of neuroblastoma and pancreatic cancer cells. Immunohistochemically both mAbs revealed extracellular plaque-like aggregates in hippocampus of Alzheimer's disease brain.  相似文献

In this research work, the nanostructured Fe-Mn (BM0), Fe-Mn-Cu (BM1), Fe-Mn-W (BM2), and Fe-Mn-Co (BM3) biodegradable alloys were successfully synthesized using mechanical alloying. The microstructure of the synthesized alloys was examined using XRD, SEM equipped with EDS, and HRTEM techniques. The results obtained based on these techniques confirmed the development of nanostructured BM0, BM1, BM2, and BM3 alloys and homogenous solid solutions with an even elemental dispersion. The compressibility of the synthesized alloys was investigated experimentally and empirically in the as-milled conditions and after applying a stress relief treatment (150 °C for 1 h). The load applied for compaction experiments ranged from 25–1100 MPa with a rate of 1 mm/min. According to the experimentation performed in the current study, the relative density of the as-milled BM0, BM1, BM2, and BM3 alloys was 72.90% and 71.64%, 72.32%, and 72.03%, respectively. After applying the stress relief treatment, the density was observed to increase to 75.23%, 77.10%, 72.65%, and 72.86% for BM0-S, BM1-S, BM2-S and BM3-S samples, respectively. A number of compaction models were tested to identify the optimum models for predicting the compressibility behavior of nanostructured Fe-Mn, Fe-Mn-Cu, Fe-Mn-W, and Fe-Mn-Co alloys in the as-milled and stress-relieved conditions.  相似文献

Background: Hypokalemia and hypertension are common manifestations of preclinical cardiovascular conditions that have a predictive value for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Cardiac hypertrophy, an important risk factor in heart failure, is attributed to long‐term hypokalemia and hypertension. Sesame oil is rich in nutrients and possesses potent antihypertensive activities. Methods: We investigated the therapeutic potential of sesame oil using a hypertensive model created by subcutaneously injecting deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA; 15 mg/mL/kg in mineral oil; twice weekly for 5 weeks) and supplementing with 1% sodium chloride drinking water (DOCA/salt) to uninephrectomized rats. Sesame oil was administered by oral gavage (0.5 or 1 mL/kg/d for 7 days) after 4 weeks of DOCA/salt treatment. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), electrocardiography (ECG), and K+ and Mg2+ levels were assessed 24 hours after the last dose of sesame oil. Heart tissue was collected for histologic analysis. Results: Sesame oil effectively reduced the SBP/DBP and ECG abnormalities and increased the serum levels of K+ and Mg2+ while limiting the urinary excretion of K+ in DOCA/salt‐induced hypertensive rats. In addition, sesame oil decreased the heart mass, the thickness of the left ventricle, and the diameter of cardiomyocytes, indicating the regression of left ventricular hypertrophy in the hypertensive rats. Conclusion: We demonstrate that sesame oil therapeutically ameliorates cardiac hypertrophy by regulating hypokalemia in hypertensive rats.  相似文献
