Drug-induced secondary angle closure is quite common and in the majority of cases simply stopping the medication leads to rapid reversal of the condition and resolution of glaucoma. We describe here a patient who presented with secondary angle closure glaucoma and myopia following mefenamic acid ingestion which was managed successfully by stopping the medication, symptomatic treatment and reassurance. 相似文献

Brain stem audiory evoked response (BAER) audiometry is a non-invasive and objective measure of a subject’s auditory function. The present paper attempts to establish normative data in Indian subjects. It was found that the BAER can detect asymptomatic high frequency hearing losses. Wave V’s threshold, latency and amplitude, along with comparisons between the auditory (subjective) and BAER threshold, are useful parameters in testing for organic and non-organic hearing disorders. 相似文献

The growth of technology and requirements globally for various commodities has brought about new challenges. Biofilms are aggregations of microbial cells, which contaminate and spoil industrial components and environments. These microbial cells with extracellular polymeric substances colonize living and nonliving surfaces and pose a serious problem for all industries, affecting their processes, leading to a reduction of product quality and economic loss. Industries, such as medical, food, water, dairy, wine, marine, power plants are exposed to biofilm formation. Pipe blockages, waterlogging and reduction of the heat-transfer efficiency, hamper the operating system of plants. Many industries do not set up remedial measures to control biofilm formation as they are not aware of this threat. Various conventional methods to control these biofilms are adopted by industries in their regular workflow, but these are temporary solutions. This calls for further research into remediation of the biofilm and its control for industrial components. This review article addresses the problems of biofilms and proposes solutions for various industrial components. Nanotechnology promises several options, and bring about a new aspect into the industrial economy, by solving the problems of environmental biofilms. 相似文献

Prenylated flavonoids represent a unique class of naturally occurring compounds and have proved to be an important source of chemically diverse novel metabolites. Nevertheless, they possess wild array of biological activities. 4′-Methoxy licoflavanone is a prenylated flavonoid isolated from stem bark of Erytherina subrossa. Herein, we report the synthesis of O-alkyl analogs (2a–2m) and 1,2,3 triazole conjugate (3–14) of 4′-methoxy licoflavanone by selective modification at C-7 position in the chromane nucleus. In addition, all the derivatives were evaluated for in vitro antiproliferative activity against a panel of cancer cell lines including pancreatic cancer (Mia PaCa-2), prostate cancer (PC-3), and human leukemia (HL-60) cells. The results revealed that some analogs including 2e and 2m exhibited better cytotoxicity effect than parent compound, specifically on Mia PaCa-2 cell lines. 相似文献

The blood schizontocidal activity of alpha and beta arteether has been compared with that of alpha/beta arteether (a 30:70 mixture of alpha and beta isomers), which is a fast-acting blood schizontocide undergoing phase I clinical trials at the Central Drug Research Institute. Both beta and alpha/beta arteether have comparable activity and are curative at a dose of 5 mg/kg for 3 days against blood-induced Plasmodium cynomolgi B infection in the rhesus monkey; alpha arteether alone is slightly less active, with a 50% cure rate at the above dose. 相似文献

Aim
To evaluate the serum paraoxonase 1 activity and determine its association with duration in type 2 Diabetes mellitus patients.Methods
A total of 80 cases from type 2 diabetes mellitus and healthy controls were enrolled in the present case control study. Human serum PON1 concentration was measured by ELISA and western blotting and it activity was determined spectrophotometrically using 4-nitrophenyle acetate. Diagnostic accuracy of serum PON1 to identify type 2 Diabetes mellitus was calculated with ROC analysis.Result
Serum concentration of LDL, VLDL, TG, A1C, FBS and TC levels showed significantly higher levels in type 2 diabetes patients as compared to healthy controls, however there were no significant differences found in the level of HDL. Serum PON1 concentration and activity monitored in patients with >1?year diabetes showed higher level (75.1?±?6.8?ng/mL) as compared to patients with >3?years diabetes (65.24?±?1.6?ng/mL), its level was further decreased in patients with >5 (53.8?±?2.6?ng/mL) and >7?years (48.1?±?2.7?ng/mL) of diabetes. PON1 concentration decreased as the duration of diabetes increased. PON1 level was further decreased due to habits like smoking and alcohol consumption.Conclusion
Serum PON1 levels decrease in states of high oxidative stress like metabolic syndrome, obesity, uncontrolled diabetes, and dyslipidemia. It can be used as diagnostic marker for diabetes mellitus along with increased TG, LDL, VLDL and FBG. 相似文献10.
