AbstractCadmium (Cd) as environmental pollutant can induce severe damage, particularly to the testis. This study investigated the effects of Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) on testicular dysfunction induced by Cd. Adult mice were intraperitoneally injected with cadmium chloride (CdCl2) with different doses of CAPE pretreatment. After CdCl2 injection, body/testis weight ratio decreased, Cd levels accumulated and zinc levels decreased in testis. Furthermore, Cd intoxication caused a significant increase of oxidative stress levels, antioxidant enzymes activities, and glutathione levels. Interestingly, significant improvements were observed after the administration of CAPE. Our results demonstrated the protective effect of CAPE, linking Cd testicular dysfunction to oxidative stress. 相似文献
Objective: To examine (i) the associations between physical activity dimensions, cardiorespiratory fitness and body composition and, (ii) the associations between physical activity dimensions, cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition and biomarkers of cardiometabolic health in persons with spinal cord injury (SCI).
Methods: A cross-sectional prospective cohort study with 7-day follow-up was conducted. Body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness and biomarkers of cardiometabolic health were measured in thirty-three participants with SCI (> 1 year post injury). Physical activity dimensions were objectively assessed over 7-days.
Results: Activity energy expenditure (r =.43), physical activity level (r =.39), and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) (r =.48) were significantly (P < 0.001) associated with absolute (L/min) peak oxygen uptake (?O2 peak). ?O2 peak was significantly higher in persons performing ≥150 MVPA minutes/week compared to <40 minutes/week (P?=?0.003). Individual physical activity dimensions were not significantly associated with biomarkers of cardiometabolic health. However, body composition characteristics (BMI, waist and hip circumference) showed significant (P < 0.04), moderate (r >.30) associations with parameters of metabolic regulation, lipid profiles and inflammatory biomarkers. Relative ?O2 peak (ml/kg/min) was moderately associated with only insulin sensitivity (r?=?0.37, P?=?0.03).
Conclusions: Physical activity dimensions are associated with cardiorespiratory fitness; however, stronger and more consistent associations suggest that poor cardiometabolic health is associated with higher body fat content. Given these findings, the regulation of energy balance should be an important consideration for researchers and clinicians looking to improve cardiometabolic health in persons with SCI. 相似文献
INTRODUCTION The exact cause of Parkinson disease (PD) has not been known yet[1]. The overwhelming progress had been made in the treatment and pathogenesis of PD in recent 30 years, especially 10 years[2]. But it is still no way now to prevent or postpone… 相似文献
Urethral reconstruction with graft substances, such as skin and bladder mucosa, has been previously used when primary anastomosis cannot be achieved. However, stricture and meatal prolapse are associated with these grafts. We report the use of buccal mucosa for the reconstruction of urethral defects in 3 patients. One patient with failed operation for hypospadias received tube buccal mucosal graft for urethral replacement. Two patients with urethral necrosis and stricture received onlay buccal mucosal graft. All patients were disease-free during follow-up (range, 12 to 49 months; mean, 36 months). One patient had a pinhole fistula that was successfully managed with simple repair. This technique appears to be useful for urethral reconstruction when a local graft is not available, even in patients with complicated conditions. 相似文献
In 1967, some hematologists who were inspired by Barbey d’Aurevilly’s novel, “A story without a name”, described the syndrome of Lasthénie de Ferjol: recurrent anemia resulting from voluntarily provoked hemorrhages. We used the same novel as a basis for studying the mother-daughter relationship. Madame de Ferjol is widowed, and lives a reclusive life with her only daughter, Lasthénie, until such time as a capuchin priest enters their life during Lent. This unexpected encounter with sexuality (Lasthénie becomes pregnant) has a marked effect upon the young woman; she withdraws into total silence, and displays self-mutilating behavior (provoked bouts of anemia) which leads to her death and to that of her unborn child. In this tale, we see a paradigm of the mother-child relationship that has already been observed in anorexia nervosa. Mother and daughter are caught up in a narcissistic dyad fom which neither is able to extricate herself. The mother remains in a pathological state of mourning, and we put forward the hypothesis that this dead mother is affected by a melancholic process in which her hatred is projected onto her daughter. Finally, we have attempted to examine the connections between hysteria and anorexia nervosa, as in this story rivalry between mother and daughter also plays a role, and in which sexuality—therefore involving a third party—is unmentionable. 相似文献
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the characteristics of Hep-2 cell with multidrug resistance (MDR) induced by Taxol. STUDY DESIGN: Hep-2 cells were exposed in stepwise escalating concentration of Taxol to develop the resistant cell line-Hep-2T. Cell cycle distribution, apoptosis, and rhodamine accumulation were studied through flow cytometry. The MDR1 and MRP1 genes were detected through real-time quantitative RT-PCR, and the corresponding proteins were detected through Western blotting. RESULTS: The drug resistance of Hep-2T cells to Taxol, doxorubicin, gemcitabine, 5-FU, and cisplatin all increased. The percentage of G0/G1 phase and the antiapoptosis ability increased significantly compared with Hep-2 cells. Both MDR1 and MRP1 also increased at gene and protein level, though MDR1 was more prominent. CONCLUSION: More emphasis should be laid on MDR1/Pgp, the non-Pgp substrate chemotherapeutic agents, and the changes of cell cycle distribution to prevent MDR induced by Taxol. SIGNIFICANCE: These findings may provide theoretical support for the reverse of MDR. 相似文献
We have developed a sensitive enzymatic-immunoassay to quantify the level of gamma-enolase (a specific neuronal enzyme) which is released from cultured cells after exposure to various toxins. We show that this method can estimate selectively neuronal cell death without significantly interfering with glial cell death. Indeed, no gamma-enolase is released when glial cells are killed with free-radical producing agents. Experiments comparing the levels of neuronal cell death induced by NMDA or free-radical producing drugs, performed either by measuring gamma-enolase release or using the classical fluorescein diacetate method, yielded similar results. In addition to selectively follow neuronal death in a mixed population of neurons and glial cells, this method provides a way of determining the cell death kinetics from a single culture dish, since enolase can be measured on small samples taken from the culture medium. Finally, we propose these two methods as being complementary and useful neuronal and other cellular death indexes and also to understand the complex problem of glial influence on neuronal survival or death. 相似文献
