Short-Ti inversion-recovery pulse sequence: analysis and initial experience in cancer imaging 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Inversion recovery (IR), commonly considered a pulse sequence capable of producing T1-weighted images with excellent display of normal anatomy, is versatile: The null point and peak time provide a useful, succinct summary of the properties of IR and its capacity for producing both T1- and T2-weighted images. Shortening of the inversion time (TI) and creation of a short-TI inversion-recovery (STIR) pulse sequence increases sensitivity to malignancy and other abnormalities by making the effects of prolonged T1 and T2 on signal intensity additive and by nulling the signal from fat. The authors examined over 300 patients with various malignancies and compared STIR images with T1- and T2-weighted images obtained at 0.5 T. In 43 cases, signal-difference-to-noise ratios (SD/Ns) were calculated between tumor, fat, and muscle. In general, STIR images demonstrated tumor as a conspicuously high-intensity area in a background of muted, discernible anatomic detail. The good contrast achieved with STIR sequences between tumor and fat (SD/N = 18.1) and tumor and muscle (SD/N = 12.9) consolidated into a single image the information contained separately on T1- and T2-weighted images, which facilitates efficient detection and localization of malignancy. 相似文献

Sixteen cases of histopathologically proved solitary rectal ulcer syndrome were encountered. Fifteen patients underwent barium enema study; in nine cases the findings--including rectal stricture, granularity of the mucosa, and thickened rectal folds-were nonspecific. In six cases the study was normal. All patients had a long history of defecation disorders, and defecography was performed in all. In seven cases, intussusception of the rectal wall was seen; in another case the intussusception was accompanied by a rectocele. One case showed rectal prolapse. In four cases, failed relaxation of the puborectalis occurred and prevented the passage of the bolus; in another case there was abnormal perineal descent. In two patients studies were normal. In patients with defecation disorders, the possibility of this syndrome should be considered. Defecography is the method of choice for establishing the diagnosis. 相似文献

Intracellular Ca++ levels in skeletal muscle are elevated during the in vitro contracture response of muscle from subjects with malignant hyperthermia. The role of Ca++ in the bathing medium and the consequences of substitution of Sr++ for Ca++ in the response to agents associated with malignant hyperthermia were examined. When Ca++ was omitted from the bathing medium the contractures induced in human vastus lateralis by halothane (three per cent) or succinylcholine (50 mM) were reduced by 80 and 100 per cent, respectively, while contractures induced by caffeine (8 mM) were only reduced by 50 per cent. Substitution of Ca++ by another divalent cation, Sr++, completely restored contractures induced by caffeine, but only partially restored contractures induced by halothane or succinylcholine (to 50 and 30 per cent of Ca(++)-containing medium, respectively). Mepacrine (10 microM) was effective in antagonizing contractures by caffeine, whereas verapamil and nifedipine (10 microM) were not. These results support an essential role for extracellular Ca++ not fulfilled by Sr++ in contracture induction by halothane and succinylcholine, but not by caffeine. 相似文献

Introduction Fibrosis is a component of many tissue pathologies leading to loss of normal tissue function, primarily due to excessive collagen deposition. Collagen is deposited following cleavage of the C- and N- terminal peptides from the pro-collagen molecule. The cleavage of the globular C-peptide by PCP reduces solubility of the fibrillar collagen molecule, resulting in deposition of insoluble collagen. Increased insoluble collagen deposition is a feature of all organ fibroses, with inhibition of this process, a key potential anti-fibrotic mechanism. The aim of this work was to discover potent and selective PCP inhibitors as experimental, topically applied, anti-fibrotic drugs for clinical evaluation.
Materials and methods PCP was cloned from human osteosarcoma cells and enzymatic activity demonstrated using a PCP-specific peptide cleavage assay. Activities were confirmed by measuring cleavage of [3 H]C-peptide from type-I pro-collagen. A cell-based fibroplasias model was employed to demonstrate compound efficacy using collagen deposition, liberated C-peptide and histological endpoints. The activities of PCP inhibitors in fibroblast and epithelial in vitro cell proliferation and migration assays, and selectivity vs. a panel of MMPs were also determined.
Discussion In summary, we have identified and characterized potent and selective inhibitors of PCP for progression to clinical studies for investigation as a treatment paradigm for fibrotic disease.
