Does the destruction of catecholaminergic neurons in newborn rats influence the modulator function of the cholinergic system?

The influence of the destruction of the catecholaminergic (CA) system on the reactions of neurons of the somatosensory zone of the cortex elicited by stimulation of the sciatic nerve, and on the features of the modulation of these reactions following the stimulation of the region of the basal nuclei (source of cholinergic innervation of the neocortex) and the microiontophoretic application of acetylcholine (ACh), was investigated in mongrel infant rats, 21–31 days of age. It was demonstrated that destruction of the CA system in newborn rats increases the reactivity of neurons somatosensory cortex to sensory stimulation, has no influence on the modulating effect of the cholinergic system, of the forebrain, and leads to intensification of the modulating influence of applied ACh [2].Translated from Zhurnal Vysshei Nervnoi Deyatel'nosti imeni I. The origin of the genetic code and of the earliest oligopeptides

Reconstruction of the earliest proteins in the ancient binary alphabet [glycine family G, alanine family A] leads to repeats of G alternating with repeats of A. In addition, omnipresent motifs can be assembled in two of the earliest genes involved in energy supply, crucial for Life, i.e. ATP/GTP binding and ATPase activity. They are an almost perfect match to the alternating G and A and are complementary to each other.     

Ultrasonic method of monitoring the course of the wound process in the anterior abdominal wall

Method of ultrasonic monitoring of wound process was used in 102 patients with acute surgical abdominal diseases undergone surgery from middle laparotomy. On 7th and 10th day after operation in phase of regeneration patients with uncomplicated wound process demonstrated reduce of hypoechogenic zone with appearance of zones with high echogenic structure, or transformation of hypoechogenic zones in hyperechogenic. Increase of hypoechogenic zone width in. 5-7 days after operation testifies high risk of purulent-necrotic complications in wound.     

"For" and "against" the use of cytotec in obstetrics and gynaecology

The aim of this outlook was to study the application of Misoprostol in obstetrics and gynaecology. Because this preparation is not approved for use in Bulgaria, publications on the topic from various journals cited in Medline, Cochrane library, Nature, Science, Lancet, GyneWeb and others have been taken into consideration. Indications, methods of administration, dosages and side effects in use of this drug were described.     

Invasive lobular carcinoma in a hypoplastic breast

Breast hypoplasia is encountered as part of genetic syndromes or as a result of iatrogenic factors. The incidence of this malformation and the occurrence of breast carcinoma in such cases are unknown. The authors present a 66-year-old patient with a severe breast hypoplasia and invasive lobular carcinoma. The advanced clinical stage required neoadjuvant chemotherapy. After 5 CMF cycles with no significant effect, a modified radical mastectomy with axillary lymph node dissection was performed. The pathological report revealed an infiltrating lobular carcinoma with combined classical and alveolar growth and with minor morphological changes after the chemotherapy. Immunostaining for cell proliferation markers, apoptotic regulators, and cell adhesion molecules, such as the CD44 family and members of the cadherin-catenin group, was performed. The tumor expressed a high bcl-2/low bax ratio and lacked p53 immunoreactivity, which could explain the resistance to neoajuvant therapy. The lack of adhesion molecules, except for strong E-cadherin and β-catenin reactivity, and weak CD44v6 expression were demonstrated. To the authors' knowledge this is the first case of an invasive lobular carcinoma in a hypoplastic breast reported in the English literature.
