A mosquito surveillance program designed to prevent future human cases of Western equine encephalitis or Saint Louis encephalitis was established in 1983 on Indian reservations under the jurisdiction of the Aberdeen Area Indian Health Service in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. Standard New Jersey light traps were operated on all reservations throughout the summer season while CDC miniature and encephalitis virus surveillance traps were employed for shorter periods of time on 4 reservations. Aedes vexans was the most abundant species except on the Pine Ridge, Rosebud, Winnebago and Yankton Sioux reservations in which Culex tarsalis predominated and for the Sac-n-Fox where Aedes trivittatus occurred with the greatest frequency.  相似文献

Forty conventional radiographs with examples of mild interstitial infiltrates and subtle pneumothoraces and 40 normal studies of the chest were selected and digitized, with pixel sizes of 1.0, 0.5, 0.2, and 0.1 mm. Observer performance tests were carried out using receiver operating characteristic analysis. Conventional radiographs and digitized images were compared. The results indicate that, in such cases, diagnostic accuracy increases significantly as the pixel size is reduced, at least to the 0.1-mm level. We conclude that, for digital systems using screen-film or similar image receptors, use of a pixel size substantially larger than 0.1 mm may result in some loss of diagnostic accuracy.  相似文献

In five seated, normal subjects, we measured closing volumes using 133Xe boluses inhaled at residual volume. High frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) (15 Hz, 2 cc/kg) was applied during either inspiration to total lung capacity or the subsequent expiration. Closing volume was increased (P less than 0.001) when HFOV was applied during the latter half of expiration, but not when HFOV was applied during inspiration or the first half of expiration. Subsequently, in seven subjects, we measured the regional distributions of 133Xe boluses delivered during open-glottis breath-hold at 14% vital capacity after equilibration with N2O. HFOV was applied during bolus delivery for about 16 sec. These distributions were compared with those achieved by intravenous injections of 133Xe in saline. Regional perfusion (injected isotope) exceeded regional N2O uptake at the lung bases and this was significantly accentuated by HFOV, compatible with increased basal closure. We conclude that in normal subjects at low lung volumes, HFOV may enhance airway closure, though other explanations are possible.  相似文献

Background: Spherophakia is an uncommon diagnosis. This is the first case report of spherophakia evaluated by ultrasound biomicroscopy.
Methods: Ultrasound biomicroscopy is a new diagnostic technique developed by one of the authors and provides images with microscopic resolution of the anterior segment. A patient with spherophakia was evaluated by ultrasound biomicroscopy (Zeiss-Humphrey, 50MHz) before and after YAG laser iridotomy.
Results: Ultrasound biomicroscopic assessment revealed a shallow anterior chamber, a very steep anterior lens curvature, iridolenticular contact, elongated zonules, and an increased distance between the lens equator and the ciliary processes. Angle closure glaucoma was due to a pupil block mechanism. The pupil block was relieved by YAG laser iridotomy.
Conclusions: Ultrasound biomicroscopy is a useful technique to confirm the diagnosis of spherophakia. The pupil block in spherophakia is relieved by YAG laser iridotomy.  相似文献
