In this study, the effects of added bioactive glass on the basic setting properties of a commercially available resin-modified glass ionomer cement were investigated with respect to setting time, mechanical strength, and setting mechanism. It was found to be clinically acceptable whether the setting time was extended or shortened depending on the type of bioactive glass added. The compressive strength of the set cement containing the bioactive glass decreased and was much higher when compared with the conventional type glass ionomer cement containing bioactive glass. The Fourier-transform infrared and 13C CP/MAS-NMR spectroscopies revealed that the extent of the acid-base reaction was larger in the cements containing bioactive glass than in the commercial resin-modified glass ionomer cement because of its high basicity in the bioactive glass. The 27Al MAS-NMR showed that crosslinking of the carboxylates in the polymeric acid by Al proceeded less in the cement containing the bioactive glass.  相似文献

Good nutritional support is crucial for the immune system to fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, in the context of a pandemic with a highly transmissible coronavirus, implementation of nutrition practice may be difficult. A multicenter electronic survey involving 62 dieticians was conducted, in order to understand barriers associated with dieticians’ adherence to nutrition guidelines for hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Indonesia. 69% of dieticians felt under stress when performing nutrition care, and 90% took supplements to boost their own immunity against the coronavirus. The concerns related to clinical practice included a lack of clear guidelines (74%), a lack of access to medical records (55%), inadequate experience or knowledge (48%), and a lack of self-efficacy/confidence (29%) in performing nutritional care. Half (52%) of the dieticians had performed nutrition education/counseling, 47% had monitored a patient’s body weight, and 76% had monitored a patient’s dietary intake. An adjusted linear regression showed that guideline adherence independently predicted the dieticians’ nutrition care behaviors of nutrition counselling (ß: 0.24 (0.002, 0.08); p = 0.04), and monitoring of body weight (ß: 0.43 (0.04, 0.11); p = 0.001) and dietary intake (ß: 0.47(0.03, 0.10); p = 0.001) of COVID-19 patients. Overall, adherence to COVID-19 nutrition guidelines is associated with better nutritional management behaviors in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To investigate maternal and neonatal outcomes after antioxidant supplementation relatively early in pregnancy (8 to 12 weeks) for pregnant women with low antioxidant status. METHODS: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of daily antioxidant supplementation was performed on pregnant women screening positive for low antioxidant status at 8 to 12 weeks of gestation. Low antioxidant status was defined as a superoxidedismutase (SOD) level below 1102 U/g Hb or 164 U/mL. The supplementation group received the following antioxidants daily: vitamins A (1000 IU), B6 (2.2 mg), B12 (2.2 microg), C (200 mg), and E (400 IU), folic acid (400 microg), N-acetylcysteine (200 mg), Cu (2 mg), Zn (15 mg), Mn (0.5 mg), Fe (30 mg), calcium (800 mg), and selenium (100 microg). The control group received Fe (30 mg) and folic acid (400 microg). Maternal (preeclampsia, abortion, and hypertension) and perinatal outcomes were assessed. RESULTS: In the supplementation group (29 subjects), we observed 2 cases of preeclampsia (6.8%, 1 mild and 1 severe), 1 of IUGR (birth weight 2300 g at 38 weeks), and 1 preterm delivery. In the control group (31 subjects), there were 8 abortions, 9 cases of preeclampsia (29%, 6 mild and 3 severe) with perinatal outcome: 3 preterm delivery cases and 1 IUGR (birth weight 2030 g at 39 weeks). Preeclampsia was significantly less frequent in the supplementation group when compared to the control group (2 vs. 9 cases, p = 0.043, OR = 0.18 [95% CI: 0.03, 0.92]). Finally we focused on the prediction of preeclampsia at 8 to 12 weeks. Combined sensitivity of markers of antioxidant status (SOD slutathione peroxidase, [GPx], and total anti-oxidant status [TAS]) was 33% (false-positive rate of 4.5%). CONCLUSION: Antioxidant supplementation was associated with better maternal and perinatal outcome in pregnant women with low antioxidant status than control supplementation with iron and folate alone. In a selected population already screened positive for low SOD, preeclampsia can be detected in 33% of asymptomatic cases in the first trimester using SOD, GPx, and TAS. It seems feasible that panels of both biochemical and molecular markers may be clinically useful in the prediction of this disease.  相似文献

The 2022 multi-country monkeypox outbreak in humans has brought new public health adversity on top of the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The disease has spread to 104 countries throughout six continents of the world, with the highest burden in North America and Europe. The etiologic agent, monkeypox virus (MPXV), has been known since 1959 after isolation from infected monkeys, and virulence among humans has been reported since the 1970s, mainly in endemic countries in West and Central Africa. However, the disease has re-emerged in 2022 at an unprecedented pace, with particular concern on its human-to-human transmissibility and community spread in non-endemic regions. As a mitigation effort, healthcare workers, public health policymakers, and the general public worldwide need to be well-informed on this relatively neglected viral disease. Here, we provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of monkeypox, including the following aspects: epidemiology, etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnosis, and management. In addition, the current review discusses the preventive and control measures, the latest vaccine developments, and the future research areas in this re-emerging viral disease that was declared as a public health emergency of international concern.  相似文献

OBJECTIVEChanna micropeltes extract contains albumin and omega-6 which possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents that can promote macrophages in the wound healing process associated with diabetes mellitus (DM). In this study, we analyzed Nuclear Factor kappa B (NF-κB) and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) expression as well as neovascular cells in the inflammatory stage of DM wound healing.METHODSThe 24 males Rattus novergicus were divided into 3 groups that were 20% Channa micropeltes ointment (Group I), 10% Channa striata extract ointment (Group II), and placebo ointment as a control (Group III). Ointments were applied 3 times daily.RESULTSThe highest expression of NF-κB was obser ved in Group III on Day 4 (15.50 ± 2.38), and the lowest was in treatment of Group I and Group II on Day 8 (4.75 ± 0.96). The highest expression of VEGF was obser ved in Group I on Day 8 (14.75 ± 0.96), and the lowest was Group III on Day 4 (7.00 ± 1.41). The highest count of neovascular cells was obser ved in Group I on Day 8 (11.00 ± 2.16), and the lowest was in Group III on Day 4 (5.50 ± 0.58).CONCLUSIONSChanna micropeltes has an anti-inflammator y effect by regulating NF-κB expression and elevating VEGF expression in the angiogenesis process of DM wound healing.  相似文献

Objectives:To prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), behaviors such as mask-wearing, social distancing, decreasing mobility, and avoiding crowds have been suggested, especially in high-risk countries such as Indonesia. Unfortunately, the level of compliance with those practices has been low. This study was conducted to determine the predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors of COVID-19 prevention behavior in Indonesia. Methods:This cross-sectional study used a mixed-methods approach. The participants were 264 adults from 21 provinces in Indonesia recruited through convenience sampling. Data were collected using a Google Form and in-depth interviews. Statistical analysis included univariate, bivariate, and multivariate logistic regression. Furthermore, qualitative data analysis was done through content analysis and qualitative data management using Atlas.ti software. Results:Overall, 44.32% of respondents were non-compliant with recommended COVID-19 prevention behaviors. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, low-to-medium education level, poor attitude, insufficient involvement of leaders, and insufficient regulation were also associated with decreased community compliance. Based on in-depth interviews with informants, the negligence of the Indonesian government in the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic may have contributed to the unpreparedness of the community to face the pandemic, as people were not aware of the importance of preventive practices. Conclusions:Education level is not the only factor influencing community compliance with recommended COVID-19 prevention behaviors. Changing attitudes through health promotion to increase public awareness and encouraging voluntary community participation through active risk communication are necessary. Regulations and role leaders are also required to improve COVID-19 prevention behavior.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Germline mutations in three subunits of mitochondrial complex II (SDHB, SDHC and SDHD) may be associated with susceptibility to phaeochromocytoma (PC) and/or head and neck paraganglioma (HNPGL). METHODS: To further define the role of SDH subunit mutations in these disorders, we analysed a series of 22 probands with PC and evidence of genetic susceptibility (seven with familial PC only, one with familial PC and HNPGL, 10 sporadic cases with multiple PC and four cases of isolated paediatric onset PC) for germline SDHB, SDHC and SDHD mutations. In addition, we analysed 34 cases of HNPGL (30 isolated cases with single tumours, three isolated cases with multiple tumours and one familial case with multiple tumours) for somatic and germline mutations in SDHB, SDHC and SDHD. RESULTS: We identified four germline mutations (three SDHB and one SDHD, three novel) in the 22 PC probands. Combining these results with our previous series, we have detected germline SDHB or SDHD mutations in 2/12 (17%) of familial PC only kindreds, 4/5 (80%) of familial PC and HNPGL cases, 1/10 of sporadic multiple PC cases and 2/4 (50%) of paediatric PCs. No somatic mutations were detected in the HNPGL tumours, but four cases with multiple HNPGL had the common P81L germline SDHD mutation. Intriguingly a silent SNP (c.204C > T) in SDHD was significantly more common in HNPGL cases (6/34) than in controls (1/100, P = 0.0011). Combining our results with those from two other large studies in which both SDHB and SDHD have been analysed, SDHB mutations were most commonly associated with phaeochromocytoma susceptibility and SDHD with the development of HNPGL (P = 0.025). However, germline SDHB and SDHD mutations demonstrate considerable phenotypic variability and genotype-phenotype correlations are complex. CONCLUSION: The significantly lower frequency (P = 0.028) of germline SDH subunit mutations in familial PC only cases compared to those with familial PC and HNPGL suggests that further PC susceptibility gene(s) remain to be identified.  相似文献

Periodontitis may exert an infectious and inflammatory burden, evidenced by increased C-reactive protein (CRP). This burden may impair blood glucose control (HbA1c). The aim of our study was to analyze whether periodontitis severity as measured with the periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) and CRP predict HbA1c levels in a group of healthy Indonesians and a group of Indonesians treated for type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). A full-mouth periodontal examination, including probing pocket depth, gingival recession, clinical attachment loss, plaque index and bleeding on probing, was performed in 132 healthy Indonesians and 101 Indonesians treated for DM2. Using these data, PISA was calculated. In addition, HbA1c and CRP were analyzed. A validated questionnaire was used to assess smoking, body mass index (BMI), education and medical conditions. In regression analyses, it was assessed whether periodontitis severity and CRP predict HbA1c, controlling for confounding and effect modification (i.e., age, sex, BMI, pack years, and education). In healthy Indonesians, PISA and CRP predicted HbA1c as did age, sex, and smoking. In Indonesians treated for DM2, PISA did not predict HbA1c. Periodontitis may impair blood glucose regulation in healthy Indonesians in conjunction with elevated CRP levels. The potential effect of periodontitis on glucose control in DM2 patients may be masked by DM2 treatment. Clinical relevance: periodontitis may impair blood glucose control through exerting an inflammatory and infectious burden evidenced by increased levels of CRP.  相似文献

We report a novel mutation at codon 24 of the α2-globin gene (HBA2: c.75T?>?A) found in a Sundanese family. This novel mutation was detected during prenatal diagnosis. The couple already had a 7-year-old boy who exhibited clinically severe α-thalassemia intermedia (α-TI), and he was found to be a compound heterozygote for the novel mutation at codon 24 and the previously described Hb Adana (HBA2: c.179G?>?A) at codon 59 of the α2-globin gene. The father was a carrier of the novel point mutation and showed normal hemoglobin (Hb) and a low mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and mean corpuscular Hb (MCH) value.  相似文献
