A series of 20 hepatocellular carcinomas and 8 intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas was screened from the Korean population for microsatellite alterations, including a loss of heterozygosity and replication errors using nine microsatellite markers containing several genes. The microsatellite results and our previous comparative genomic hybridization results of two tumors were compared at each locus, and the correlations between these and clinicopathologic variables were examined. The most characteristic findings were found at 13q. Replication errors were prevalent at D13S160 (13q21.2 approximately q31) and D13S292(13q12). The incidence of loss of heterozygosity, however, was higher at D13S153 (13q14.1 approximately q14.3) and D13S265(13q31 approximately q32). In contrast, there were higher deletion frequencies observed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and higher amplification frequencies observed in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma at 13q in our previous comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) study. Higher frequencies of replication errors were observed at D16S408 (13q12 approximately q21) and D16S504(13q23 approximately q24) in the HCC. This study found that significant differences in the patterns of genetic instability of microsatellites were dependent on the chromosomal loci. It is believed that certain genes at altered CGH regions, which are relevant to the development and/or progression of these cancers, are activated by different mutation mechanisms. 相似文献
Twenty male patients with Korean hemorrhagic fever were evaluated with thrombelastography (TEG) to assess the changes in coagulation system, and the results were compared with those of conventional coagulation tests. Procoagulant activity in the plasma was determined by comparing the reaction time "r" of the normal plasma and that of the mixture of equal parts of the normal plasma and the patient's plasma. The TEG was found to be a useful measure of the changes in the coagulation profile, and provided instant accurate assessment of the patient's hemostatic function. Presence of the procoagulant activity was demonstrated in the plasma of the patients and indicated occurrence of active intravascular coagulation during the early stage of the disease. 相似文献
Aquarobics, a combination of the words aqua and aerobics, is based on the idea that much more energy is consumed during exercise when resisting water rather than air. The aquarobic exercise program is composed of patient education and aquarobic exercise. The program was effective in enhancing self-efficacy, decreasing pain, and improving depression levels, body weight, and blood lipid levels in patients with osteoarthritis. Therefore, this program can be widely used in a community setting for the management of osteoarthritis. 相似文献
As the outermost layer of the body, the skin plays an important role in exposure to pesticides, which could have negative impacts on human health. Trifloxystrobin is a widely used fungicide of the strobilurin class, however, there is little information regarding the skin contact-associated toxic mechanism. Therefore, the present study was performed in order to identify the skin toxicity mechanism of trifloxystrobin using HaCaT (keratinocyte of human skin) cells. Following 24 or 48?h treatment, cell viability, and subsequent Annexin V-FITC/propidium iodide assay, TUNEL assay and Western blotting were performed to investigate the cell death mechanism of trifloxystrobin. Exposure to trifloxystrobin resulted in diminished viability of HaCaT cells in both a time- and concentration-dependent manner. The cell death was derived through apoptotic pathways in the HaCaT cells. Furthermore, we explored the effect of trifloxystrobin on TRAIL-mediated extrinsic apoptosis using siRNA transfection. Knockdown of death receptor 5 suppressed trifloxystrobin-provoked apoptosis. These results indicate that trifloxystrobin induces TRAIL-mediated apoptosis and has an inhibitory effect in keratinocytes that can interfere with the barrier function and integrity of the skin. This could be proposed as a mechanism of skin toxicity by trifloxystrobin and considered in the management of pesticide exposure. 相似文献
Background: Aggravated melasma after treatment is vulnerable to stimulation, can easily deteriorate, and may be distressing without proper management. Objective: To retrospectively assess the effectiveness and safety of combination therapy using low-fluence Q-switched neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser (QSNY) and long-pulse Nd:YAG laser (LPNY) (dual toning) in patients with rebound melasma. Materials and methods: A total of 30 patients with aggravated melasma after previous therapy who were treated with dual toning were enrolled. A total of 10 sessions were conducted at 1-week intervals, followed by maintenance treatment. The results were evaluated using the modified Melasma Area and Severity Index (mMASI) and the physician's global assessment (PGA) before and 2 months after completing the 10 treatment sessions. Results: The baseline mMASI was 10.48 ± 3.64, which significantly decreased to 3.22 ± 1.45 2 months after completing the 10 treatment sessions (p < 0.001). Twenty-four patients (80%) had PGA grade 4 (76–100% improvement) and 6 patients (20%) had PGA grade 3 (51–75% improvement). Conclusion: Dual toning may be a safe and effective salvage treatment for patients with aggravated melasma after previous treatment. LPNY may stabilize melasma activity to prevent rebound hyperpigmentation via dermal remodeling. 相似文献
Primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma is a rare malignant tumor that originates from the deepest portion of the eccrine sweat duct. Common sites of involvement are the face and scalp. Biopsy shows dermal epithelial cell islands embedded in mucin pools separated by fibrous septae. It is difficult to differentiate this tumor histologically from metastatic adenocarcinoma. Recurrence after excision is common but metastases are rare. We report a primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation on the right cheek of a 63-year-old man. 相似文献
Purpose: To examine factors in the fear-avoidance model, such as pain, pain catastrophizing, fear-avoidance beliefs, physical disability, and depression and their relationships with physical and psychological quality of life in patients with rheumatic diseases.
Materials and methods: The data were obtained from 360 patients with rheumatic diseases who completed self-report measures assessing study variables. Structural equation modeling was used to examine the hypothesized relationships among factors specified in the fear-avoidance model predicting physical and psychological quality of life.
Results: Final models fit the data well, explaining 96% and 82% of the variance in physical and psychological quality of life, respectively. Higher pain catastrophizing was related to stronger fear-avoidance beliefs that had a direct negative association with physical disability and depression, which, in turn, negatively affected physical quality of life. Pain severity was also directly related to physical disability. Physical disability also affected physical quality of life indirectly through depression. The hypothesized relationships specified in the model were also confirmed for psychological quality of life. However, physical disability had an indirect association with psychological quality of life via depression.
Conclusion: The current results underscore the significant role of cognitive, affective, and behavioral factors in perceived physical disability and their mediated detrimental effect on physical and psychological quality of life in patients with rheumatic diseases.
Implications for rehabilitation
The fear-avoidance model is applicable to the prediction of quality of life in patients with rheumatic diseases.
As pain-catastrophizing and fear-avoidance beliefs are important factors linked to physical disability and depression, intervening these cognitive factors is necessary to improve physical function and depression in patients with rheumatic diseases.
Considering the strong association between depression and physical and psychological quality of life, the assessment and treatment of the former should be included in the rehabilitation of patients with rheumatic diseases.
Interventions targeting physical function and depression are likely to be effective in terms of improving physical and psychological quality of life in patients with rheumatic diseases.
