Daily running promotes spatial learning and memory in rats.   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Previous studies on exercise have shown that physical activity improves learning and memory. Present study was performed to determine the effects of acute, chronic and continuous exercise with different periods on spatial learning and memory recorded as the latency and length of swim path in the Morris water maze testing in subsequent 8 days. Four rat groups were included as follows: (1) group C, controls which did not exercise; (2) group A, 30 days treadmill running before and 8 days during the Morris water maze testing period; (3) group B, 30 days exercise before the Morris water maze testing period only; (4) group D, 8 days exercise only during the Morris water maze testing period. The results showed that chronic (30 days) and continuous (during 8 days of Morris water maze testing days) treadmill training produced a significant enhancement in spatial learning and memory which was indicated by decreases in path length and latency to reach the platform in the Morris water maze test (p<0.05). The benefits in these tests were lost in 3 days, if the daily running session was abandoned. In group D with acute treadmill running (8 days exercise only) the difference between the group A disappeared in 1 week and benefit seemed to be obtained in comparison with the controls without running program. In conclusion the chronic and daily running exercises promoted learning and memory in Morris water maze, but the benefits were lost in few days without daily running sessions in adult rats.  相似文献

Background:

Infection with Trichostrongylus spp. is common among human and herbivorous in most parts of Iran, especially in southern and northern areas. The aim of present study was to identify Trichostrongylus spp. among human population using excreted egg specimens, by the molecular method, in Mazandaran Province, northern Iran.

Methods:

Overall, 33 positive fecal specimens were randomly sampled and examined. PCR amplification of ITS2-rDNA region was performed on the isolated egg and then a restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) profile was considered to discriminate of Trichostrongylus spp.

Results:

A total of 33 positive fecal specimens, 29(78.9%), 4(12.1%) were found T. colubriformis and T. axei respectively. Our data appear the molecular evidence of both human T. colubriformis and T. axei infections in North of Iran.

Conclusion:

T. colubriformis was the probable most common zoonotic species causing human trichostrongylosis infection in the area  相似文献

Introduction

In spite of anatomic proximity of the facial skeleton and cranium, there is paucity of information in the literature regarding the relationship between head injuries and facial trauma. The objective of our investigation was to evaluate the pattern of head injuries in patients with maxillofacial trauma, and to study their relationship.

Material and methods

We evaluated 2,692 patients with maxillofacial trauma admitted to the Besat hospital, Hamedan, Iran between 2007 and 2010. Patients with associated head injury (302 cases; study group) were compared with those without head injury (2,390 cases; control group).

Results

In our cohort, the rate of head injuries associated with facial bone fractures was 23.3 %. The most common associated head injury was concussion, followed by cerebral contusion and skull fractures. In the unadjusted analysis, motorcycle and car accidents were significantly more frequent in the study group, while stumbling, sports injuries, and work-related injuries were significantly more common in the control group (p?<?0.001). Except for Lefort III fractures which was not significantly different between groups, all facial fractures occurred more frequently in the study group (p?<?0.001). Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that motorcycle accidents (211-fold), car accidents (139-fold), violence (69-fold), falls (66-fold), frontal sinus fractures (84.5-fold), and Lefort II fractures (27-fold) were the strongest predictors of head injuries.

Discussion

Present study revealed that fracture of facial bones, especially bones that are in anatomic proximity to the cranium and need a high magnitude of trauma energy to be fractured, was marker for an increased risk of head injuries.  相似文献

The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate and compare the epidemiology and pattern of maxillofacial injuries caused by stumbling and other kinds of falls. We evaluated all patients with facial injuries due to stumbling or falls who presented to Besat Hospital in Hamedan, Iran, during the 2.5-year study period and analyzed the acquired data. Of 2990 patients with facial injuries who were referred to Besat Hospital during the study period, 733 (24.5%) were injured by stumbling, and 246 (8.2%) were injured by falls. The male-to-female ratios in the stumbling and falls groups were 2:1 and 1.86:1, respectively. Although the rate of soft tissue injuries was the same in both groups, the rate of bone fractures was higher in fall accidents (1.6:1). In stumbling accidents, the most common type of bone fracture was nasal fracture, followed by dentoalveolar, mandibular, and zygomatic fractures. In falls, nasal fractures were the most common type of bone fracture, followed by zygomatic, mandibular, and dentoalveolar fractures. All of the Le Fort I, II, and III fractures, nasal-orbital-ethmoid, and frontal sinus injuries occurred in fall accidents. The rate of associated injuries in falls was higher than stumbling accidents. We concluded that the incidence, age distribution, rate, and pattern of bone fractures and the frequency and type of associated injuries in stumbling accidents were significantly different from that of fall accidents. For a good program planning to prevent and manage facial injuries, we recommend separate evaluation of stumbling and fall accidents.  相似文献
