[Purpose] Obesity and hyperglycemia play roles in the impairment of pulmonary function in
type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. Low-intensity exercise is known to reduce body
fat and improve hyperglycemia. The arm swing exercise (ASE), a low-intensity exercise, is
easy and convenient to perform without any equipment and is suitable for daily practice.
Therefore, we aimed to investigate the effects of ASE on lung function and obesity in
overweight T2DM patients. [Subjects and Methods] Twenty-four subjects continued their
daily life routines for 8 weeks (control period), and then performed ASE for 8 weeks (30
minutes per day, 3 days per week) (ASE period). Pulmonary function tests were performed,
and fasting blood glucose, haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), lipid profiles, high-sensitive
C-reactive protein (HSCRP), insulin concentration, and anthropometric parameters were
measured before and after each period. [Results] After the ASE period, the forced vital
capacity, forced expiratory volume in the first second of expiration, and maximal
voluntary ventilation were increased when compared with after the control period. HbA1c, a
low-density lipoprotein, malondialdehyde, oxidized glutathione, and the percent body fat
were significantly decreased when compared with after the control period. However, other
parameters, such as lung volume, anthropometric parameters, and fasting blood glucose,
insulin, high-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, total cholesterol and glutathione
concentrations, showed no differences between the two periods. [Conclusion] These data
suggest that there is improvement of pulmonary functions in T2DM patients after ASE

ObjectiveTo determine the effect of five-session dual-transcranial direct current stimulation (dual-tDCS) combined with task-specific training on gait and lower limb motor performance in individuals with subacute stroke.Materials and MethodsTwenty-five participants who had a stroke in the subacute phase with mild motor impairment were recruited, randomized, and allocated into two groups. The active group (n = 13) received dual-tDCS with anodal over the lesioned hemisphere M1 and cathodal over the nonlesioned hemisphere, at 2 mA for 20 min before training for five consecutive days, while the sham group (n = 12) received sham mode before training. Gait speed as a primary outcome, temporospatial gait variables, lower-limb functional tasks (sit-to-stand and walking mobility), and muscle strength as secondary outcomes were collected at preintervention and postintervention (day 5), one-week follow-up, and one-month follow-up.ResultsThe primary outcome and most of the secondary outcomes were improved in both groups, with no significant difference between the two groups, and most of the results indicated small to moderate effect sizes of active tDCS compared to sham tDCS.ConclusionThe combined intervention showed no benefit over training alone in improving gait variables and lower-limb performance. However, some performances were saturated at some point, as moderate to high function participants were recruited in the present study. Future studies should consider recruiting participants with more varied motor impairment levels and may need to determine the optimal stimulation protocols and parameters to improve gait and lower-limb performance. 相似文献

The influence of circadian preference was examined among 56 morning-oriented rehabilitation inpatients with cognitive (n = 28) and noncognitive (n = 28) impairments. Each individual was tested twice: morning (preferred time) and evening (nonpreferred time); sessions and test batteries were counterbalanced to control for practice effects. Standard measures assessed attention, language, memory, visuospatial, and executive functions. Persons with cognitive impairment showed disproportionate vulnerability to the effects of circadian preference and time of testing, performing more poorly at nonpreferred than preferred times. Substantial effects (eta2 .12 to .48) were found on tests of executive functioning and tasks incorporating similar higher-order demands (e.g., complex figure copy). Results are supported by tympanic temperature changes during a vigilance task, an index of cerebral blood flow in response to cognitive challenge. Cognitive reserve theory is suggested as an explanation for the differential effects. These findings may have implications for inpatient therapeutic interventions and discharge planning. 相似文献

Crude C. carandas fruits ethanol extract (CCE) constituents important bioactive compounds such as phenolics, flavonoids, and vitamin C. Its biological activities include anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, etc. The present work was carried out to study the optimal conditions for fabricating electrospun gelatin fiber mats (GFM) loaded with CCE (CCE-GFM) and to evaluate the release capacity and stability of these bioactive compounds loaded into GFM. The optimal conditions for electrospinning GFM were the electrospinning 30% (w/v) gelatin solution prepared in 25% (v/v) ethanol solution containing 30% (v/v) acetic acid, under the fixed electrostatic field strength of 20 kV and at a distance between noodle tip and ground of 15 cm. The feed rate of an electrospinning solution was 1.5 mL/h. The electrospun gelatin fibers were smooth and continuous under the optimized electrospinning conditions, with an average diameter of 235.69 ± 10.45 nm. Additionally, at the loading of 15% (w/w) CCE in GFM, CCE-GFM exhibited the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity with 88.22 ± 2.62% and the highest tyrosinase inhibitory activity with 38.17 ± 1.86%. Compared with free CCE, CCE-GFM was more thermally stable upon the heating and cooling cycle testing. CCE-GFM had the percent reductions in total contents of phenolics, flavonoids and vitamin C togethering with the percent reductions of DPPH scavenging and anti-tyrosinase activities slower than pure CCE had. Furthermore, the drug release efficiency from CCE-GFM of 15% (w/w) CCE loading that was tested using modified Franz diffusion cell in an acetate buffer solution of pH 5.5 was 30%. Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) nanoparticles in powder form with high electrical conductivity were synthesized via chemical oxidative polymerization. In addition, the effects of EDOT : PSS weight ratio, EDOT : Na2S2O8 mole ratio, and surfactant concentration and type, namely hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS), and polyoxyethylene octyl phenyl ether (Triton X-100) on the properties of PEDOT:PSS were investigated. For the effect of EDOT : PSS weight ratio, at the EDOT : Na2S2O8 mole ratio of 1 : 1, the EDOT : PSS weight ratio of 1 : 11 was the optimal condition to obtain electrical conductivity of 999.74 ± 10.86 S cm−1 due to the high amount of PSS− and SO42− available to interact with the PEDOT chain with a low % PSSNa. For the effect of EDOT : Na2S2O8 mole ratio, at the EDOT : PSS weight ratio of 1 : 11, the EDOT : Na2S2O8 mole ratio of 1 : 2 was the best condition as it provided the highest dopant (PSS− and SO42−) amount, while the % PSSNa was relatively low. For the effect of surfactant type and concentration, at the EDOT : PSS weight ratio of 1 : 11 and EDOT : Na2S2O8 mole ratio of 1 : 2, Triton X-100 at 2.5CMC provided electrical conductivity higher than with CTAB and SDS. The thermal stability of PEDOT:PSS obtained from various conditions was investigated, and PEDOT:PSS without surfactant showed the highest thermal stability since it produced the highest char yield. In this study, the highest electrical conductivity of PEDOT:PSS, which was obtained in the presence of Triton X-100 to reduce the PSSNa amount, was 1879.49 ± 13.87 S cm−1, the highest value reported to date.The electrical conductivity of 1879.49 ± 13.87 S cm−1 was achieved for PEDOT:PSS, which is the highest value reported to date. 相似文献
