Aim: Any regulation of food marketing to children requires clear definitions of the types of foods considered inappropriate and subject to restrictions. The aim of this research was to examine the commitments made by signatory companies of the Australian Food and Grocery Council's Responsible Marketing to Children Initiative regarding the types of foods considered appropriate for marketing to children. Methods: Nutrient criteria developed by signatory food companies were examined by comparing (i) thresholds set for negative nutrients (saturated fats, added sugars and sodium) and total energy to two existing nutrient criteria: Healthy Kids Association and the National Heart Foundation Tick, and (ii) the types of foods considered appropriate for marketing to children, if applying companies' commitments or the product's nutrient profile using the Food Standards Australia and New Zealand nutrient profiling tool. Results: All five company-developed nutrient criteria examined specified higher thresholds for negative nutrients compared with existing criteria, and were more likely to report negative nutrients per serve rather than per 100 g. When applying company commitments, 57% more energy-dense, nutrient-poor foods and beverages were considered appropriate for marketing to children, compared with nutrient profiling. Conclusion: Food industry commitments regarding the types of foods considered appropriate for marketing to children do not adequately restrict the marketing for energy-dense, nutrient-poor foods. It is recommended food manufacturers who commit to restricting their marketing of unhealthy foods to children use a standardised, independent nutrient profiling tool based on per 100 g/100 mL to determine the appropriateness of foods and beverages for marketing to children.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this review, we highlight the variations of gut resistome studies, which may preclude comparisons and translational interpretations. Of 22 included studies, a range of 12 to 2000 antibiotic resistance (AR) genes were profiled. Overall, studies defined a healthy gut resistome as subjects who had not taken antibiotics in the last three to 12 months prior to sampling. In studies with de novo assembly, AR genes were identified based on variable nucleotide or amino acid sequence similarities. Different marker genes were used for defining resistance to a given antibiotic class. Validation of phenotypic resistance in the laboratory is frequently lacking. Cryptic resistance, collateral sensitivity and the interaction with repressors or promotors were not investigated. International consensus is needed for selecting marker genes to define resistance to a given antibiotic class in addition to uniformity in phenotypic validation and bioinformatics pipelines.  相似文献

Dietary fat consumption during accelerated stages of mammary gland development, such as peripubertal maturation or pregnancy, is known to increase the risk for breast cancer. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. Here we examined the gene expression profile of mouse mammary epithelial cells (MMECs) on exposure to a high‐fat diet (HFD) or control diet (CD). Trp53?/? female mice were fed with the experimental diets for 5 weeks during the peripubertal period (3‐8 weeks of age). The treatment showed no significant difference in body weight between the HFD‐fed mice and CD‐fed mice. However, gene set enrichment analysis predicted a significant enrichment of c‐Myc target genes in animals fed HFD. Furthermore, we detected enhanced activity and stabilization of c‐Myc protein in MMECs exposed to a HFD. This was accompanied by augmented c‐Myc phosphorylation at S62 with a concomitant increase in ERK phosphorylation. Moreover, MMECs derived from HFD‐fed Trp53?/? mouse showed increased colony‐ and sphere‐forming potential that was dependent on c‐Myc. Further, oleic acid, a major fatty acid constituent of the HFD, and TAK‐875, an agonist to G protein‐coupled receptor 40 (a receptor for oleic acid), enhanced c‐Myc stabilization and MMEC proliferation. Overall, our data indicate that HFD influences MMECs by stabilizing an oncoprotein, pointing to a novel mechanism underlying dietary fat‐mediated mammary carcinogenesis.  相似文献

Diabetes mellitus(DM) and obesity are interrelated in a complex manner, and their coexistence predisposes patients to a plethora of medical problems. Metabolic surgery has evolved as a promising therapeutic option for both conditions. It is recommended that patients, particularly those of Asian origin, maintain a lower body mass index threshold in the presence of uncontrolled DM. However, several comorbidities often accompany these chronic diseases and need to be addressed for successful surgical outcome. Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass(RYGB) and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy(LSG) are the most commonly used bariatric procedures worldwide. The bariatric benefits of RYGB and LSG are similar, but emerging evidence indicates that RYGB is more effective than LSG in improving glycemic control and induces higher rates of long-term DM remission. Several scoring systems have been formulated that are utilized to predict the chances of remission. A glycemic target of glycated hemoglobin 7% is a reasonable goal before surgery. Cardiovascular, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal, endocrine, nutritional, and psychological optimization of surgical candidates improves perioperative and long-term outcomes. Various guidelines for preoperative care of individuals with obesity have been formulated, but very few specifically focus on the concerns arising from the presence of concomitant DM. It is hoped that this statement will lead to the standardization of presurgical management of individuals with DM undergoing metabolic surgery.  相似文献

We describe the development and initial assessment of a simplemeasure of overall status in rheumatoid arthritis (OSRA) foruse in the routine clinical setting. The measure is constructedin four parts: demographic details, activity score, damage scoreand treatment category. It requires no laboratory tests anduses details collected routinely during a clinic visit. It wasvalidated in a series of 488 patients. The measure proved acceptableand demonstrated face, content, construct and discriminant validity.OSRA will be useful as an audit tool in the serial follow-upof RA patients and in describing the characteristics of a populationof such patients.  相似文献
