Polyphenols (PPs) are the naturally occurring bioactive components in fruits and vegetables, and they are the most abundant antioxidant in the human diet. Studies are suggesting that ingestion of PPs might be helpful to ameliorate metabolic syndromes that may contribute in the prevention of several chronic disorders like diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and colon cancer. PPs have structural diversity which impacts their bioavailability as they accumulate in the large intestine and are extensively metabolized through gut microbiota (GM). Intestinal microbiota transforms PPs into their metabolites to make them bioactive. Interestingly, not only GM act on PPs to metabolize them but PPs also modulate the composition of GM. Thus, change in GM from pathogenic to beneficial ones may be helpful to ameliorate gut health and associated diseases. However, to overcome the low bioavailability of PPs, various approaches have been developed to improve their solubility and transportation through the gut. In this review, we present evidence supporting the structural changes that occur after metabolic reactions in PPs (curcumin, quercetin, and catechins) and their effect on GM composition that leads to improving overall gut health and helping to ameliorate metabolic disorders.  相似文献

Y-STR polymorphism of Gujjar population was determined by using AmpFISTR®YfilerTM PCR amplification kit. A total 176 haplotypes were obtained after the analysis of 17 Y-STR loci in 176 genetically unrelated individuals. Haplotype diversity and discrimination capacity attained was 0.99730 and 0.652201325, respectively. The comparison of Gujjar population with 16 other populations revealed that Gujjars have low genetic distance from Punjabi, Sindhi, and Pakhtun population of Pakistan; Azad Kashmir, Saraswat Brahmin from India; Bangladeshi population; north and south of Afghanistan; and Uttar Pradesh India which hints toward the migrational route Gujjars took over the centuries. This data is of significant value for population studies and forensic applications.  相似文献

We have computed the electronic structure and transport properties of Fe2TaZ (Z = Al, Ga, In) alloys by the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FPLAPW) method. The magnetic conduct in accordance with the Slater–Pauling rule classifies them as non-magnetic alloys with total zero magnetic moment. The semiconducting band profile and the density of states in the post DFT treatment are used to estimate the relations among various transport parameters such as Seebeck coefficient, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and figure of merit. The Seebeck coefficient variation and band profiles describe the p-type behavior of charge carriers. The electrical and thermal conductivity plots follow the semiconducting nature of bands along the Fermi level. The overall measurements show that semi-classical Boltzmann transport theory has well-behaved potential in predicting the transport properties of such functional materials, which may find the possibility of their experimental synthesis for future applications in thermoelectric technologies.

Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is an autosomal recessive (AR) condition characterized by photosensitivity and inability to repair ultra-violet (UV) induced DNA damage. Patients diagnosed with XP, presenting to the Paediatric ophthalmology department of Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi, were evaluated and followed-up over a period of one year, for the effects of the disease process on vision and for the development of ocular tumours. Excision of the tumours, if present, was performed under general anaesthesia. Counselling of the patients was done. Referral to oncologist and dermatologist was made, if so warranted, after histopathology of excision biopsy.  相似文献

Bionanotechnology is considered a safe and ecofriendly route for the biosynthesis of metal nanoparticles from plant extracts, microorganisms, and biomaterials. The present study was focused on the fabrication of silver nanoparticles (<50 nm) biogenically from the novel Centratherum anthelmminticum's aqueous seed extract. The obtained nanoproduct was evaluated by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-Visible spectroscopy, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. The particle size and surface charge were estimated by Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and Zeta potential measurements. The nanoparticles showed cubic close packed (ccp) morphology with miller indices (111), (200), (220), (311) and (222). The λmax for synthesized silver nanoparticles was measured in the range of 436 nm, 464 nm and 467 nm for 1 mM, 5 mM and 10 mM samples, respectively. The bioreduction of silver ions exhibited a gradual color change which confirms the formation of silver nanoparticles under UV-visible spectrum. Ag–O and Ag–N stretching vibrations corresponding to the bond formation between silver and oxygen of the carboxylate group and nitrogen of amine was corroborated by the presence of a sharp peak in Raman spectra at 245 cm?1. Antimicrobial activity was assessed against eight bacterial and three fungal strains. The silver nanoparticles fabricated from 10 mM AgNO3 solution showed significant results against all Gram-negative bacteria, with the further restriction in growth of C. albicans and A. niger. From in-vitro antimicrobial assay, it was observed that drug-loaded silver nanoparticles (Ciprofloxacin +10 mM) displayed a stronger potential than the synthesized silver nanoparticles and ciprofloxacin alone to restrain the development of E. coli, and E. aerogenes.  相似文献

The present study involved the targeted synthesis and characterization of novel indole amines with anti-acetylcholinesterase profiling. A series of proposed indole amines was virtually screened against human acetylcholinesterase. A few indole amines (23, 24, and 25) showing strong enzyme binding in the in silico studies were synthesized in the laboratory and characterized using spectroscopic (IR, UV, NMR, single crystal XRD) and spectrometric (EIMS, HR-EIMS) methods. The indole amine 23 was crystallized from EtOH and analyzed with single crystal XRD. These ligands interacted with the PAS site in the enzyme, and their binding may disrupt the activity. The in vitro acetylcholinesterase inhibition studies revealed that the IC50 values for indole amines 25 and 24 (4.28 and 4.66 μM, respectively) were comparable to that of galantamine (4.15 μM) and may be studied further as cost-effective acetylcholinesterase inhibitors.
