Between 4/1986 to 1/1989, 74 orthotopic liver transplantation were performed in 62 patients (62 first liver transplants, 10 as second graft and two as a third graft); 57 in adults and 17 in children. The main indication for the operation was liver cirrhosis (61.4%) (the most frequent etiology was alcoholic cirrhosis, 28.5%). Six cirrhotic patients had a hepatocarcinoma (9.6%). Two received a liver and kidney transplant due to terminal renal insufficiency and hemodialysis. The most frequent indication in children was biliary atresia (33.3%). Six patients had a fulminal liver failure (9.6%). AB0 blood group compatibility was identical in 87.5%, compatible in six and incompatible in three patients. Total orthotopic liver transplantation was performed in 67 patients, and size-reduced liver was indicated in 7 patients. Extracorporeal veno-venous bypass was used in adults but never in children. In 93.1% of the transplants a single hepatic artery was anastomosed to the recipient and in 6.9% a double anastomosis was performed. In 62.5% of the patients a end-to-end choledocho-choledochostomy was performed and in 34.8% hepatico-jejunostomy was indicated. Three months postoperative mortality rate was 12.9%. Arterial stenosis and thrombosis were the most frequent complication. 相似文献
BACKGROUND: Pilonidal disease is a chronic disease of the natal cleft. Recurrent follicular infection is the causative factor. Surgical treatment has a significant failure rate, and recurrence is common. Laser removal of hair in the natal cleft could be an alternative to surgery. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effectiveness of laser hair removal in the natal cleft on pilonidal disease. METHODS: Six young men with recurrent pilonidal disease were treated with laser epilation in our clinic from 2000 to 2003. Most patients had a history of one or more surgical treatments in the area, and all patients had suffered recurrent folliculitis for years. An alexandrite laser was mostly used, although, occasionally, an intense pulsed light device was used. The number of epilation treatments ranged from 3 to 11, performed at 6- to 8-week intervals. RESULTS: All patients experienced progressive resolution of the folliculitis with the laser epilation treatments. No more surgical treatments have been needed. The treatments were simple and quick, and there were no complications. CONCLUSION: Laser epilation of the natal cleft should be considered a first choice treatment for recurrent pilonidal disease. Preventive laser epilation of the natal cleft in patients with recurrent folliculitis could avoid future surgery. 相似文献
Antigen B, a major antigen of the cestode parasite Taenia solium, has been purified and a portion of amino acid sequence obtained. Paramyosin of the trematode parasite Schistosoma mansoni, an immunogenic protein that has shown promise as a vaccine candidate, has several biochemical and immunological properties in common with antigen B. A full-length cDNA clone of S. mansoni paramyosin has been obtained and the predicted translation product contains a sequence that is highly homologous to the sequence obtained for antigen B. The predicted amino acid composition and isolectric point of paramyosin are nearly identical to those established for antigen B. Recombinant S. mansoni paramyosin, expressed in Escherichia coli as a fusion protein with beta-galactosidase, was recognized by antisera against T. solium antigen B. We conclude from these results that S. mansoni paramyosin and T. solium antigen B are homologous proteins. Since S. mansoni paramyosin is thought to be a muscle protein and T. solium antigen B a secreted glycoprotein with anti-complement activity, this conclusion raises some interesting questions regarding the role of this class of proteins in the host-parasite relationship. 相似文献

in 100% mortality within 36 h. Biochemical determinations show raised levels of amylase in ascites and blood. Necrosis has
been measured using seven morphometric characteristics of pathological changes that add precise information on the type and
extension of the pancreatic lesion. The percentage of necrotic tissue (by area) seems to be the most objective parameter.
Necrosis appears 6 h after TA infusion, being 5.77% in extent after 12h, 14.9% after 24 h and animals die with an area of
29.5% necrosis. This experimental model seems to one in which physiopathological and therapeutic trials on acute pancreatitis

Effect of blocking N-methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA) and non-NMDA-glutamatergic receptors on performance in the plus-maze was studied in male rats bilaterally cannulated into the nucleus accumbens (Acc). Rats were divided into seven groups that received either 1 microl injections of saline, (+/-)2-amino-7-phosphonoheptanoic acid (AP-7, 0.2, 0.5, or 1 microg) or 2,3 dioxo-6-nitro-1,2,3,4,tetrahydrobenzo-(f)quinoxaline-7-sulphonamide disodium (NBQX, 0.2, 0.5, or 1 microg) 15 min before testing. Time spent in open arm, time per entry, end arrivals, open, closed, and total arm entries, relationship between open-, closed-, and total arm entries, rearing, face-, head-, and body grooming, and number of fecal boli were recorded. Time spent in the open arm increased under AP-7 (0.5 and 1 microg; P<.01) and NBQX (1 microg; P<.05) treatment, whereas time per entry was increased only with AP-7 (1 microg; P<.05). Open arm entries were increased by the intermediate doses of AP-7 (0.5 microg; P<.01) and NBQX (0.5 microg; P<.05); end arrivals were increased by the intermediate dose of AP-7 (0.5 microg/1 microl, P<.05). The frequency of rearing, grooming, and closed arm entries was not affected by the treatment. We conclude that NMDA and non-NMDA-glutamatergic blockade in the Acc lead to a behavioral disinhibition of cortical influences with the median doses, but that at higher doses the blockers have an anxiolytic-like effect. 相似文献
Glutathione S-transferases are major phase II detoxification enzymes. Taenia solium, a parasite of humans and pigs, is exposed to toxic products. The aim of this work was to purify and characterize a T. solium glutathione S-transferase isoform of 26.5 kDa (SGST26.5) in order to obtain its kinetic parameters. Homogeneous SGST26.5 was obtained by a simple purification procedure. SGST26.5 showed a pI of 7.07, and a native Mr of 60 kDa with 26.5 kDa subunits. The optimum activity for SGST26.5 was found at pH 6.5–7.0 in the range 10–42°C. SGST26.5 had a specific enzyme activity of 78, 7.1, 6.6, and 0.7 M min–1 mg–1 with CDNB, 1,2-dichloro-4-nitrobenzene, 2,4-hexadienal and trans-2-nonenal as substrates, respectively. It also had a kcat/Km(CDNB)=2.15×103 M–1 s–1, kcat/Km(GSH)=4.5×103 M–1 s–1 and Vmax for GSH and CDNB=74 and 77 M min–1 mg–1, respectively. SGST26.5 was inhibited in a noncompetitive form by cibacron blue, bromosulfophthalein and triphenyltin chloride. Inhibition studies as a function of inhibitor concentration show that the enzyme is a homodimer. Bireactant system analysis show that it follows an ordered sequential mechanism. 相似文献
Health agencies call for the immediate mobilization of existing interventions in response to numerous child and family mental health concerns that have arisen as result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Answering this call, this pilot study describes the rapid, full-scale change from a primarily clinic-based Parent–Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) model to a virtual service model (i.e., I-PCIT) in an academic and community-based program in Miami, Florida. First, we describe the virtual service training model our program developed and its implementation with 17 therapists (MAge?=?32.35, 88.2% female, 47.1% Hispanic) to enable our clinic to shift from providing virtual services to a small portion of the families served (29.1%) to all of the families served. Second, we examine the effect of I-PCIT on child and caregiver outcomes during the 2-month stay-at-home period between March 16, 2020, and May 16, 2020, in 86 families (MChildAge?=?4.75, 71% Hispanic). Due to the rapid nature of the current study, all active participants were transferred to virtual services, and therefore there was no comparison or control group, and outcomes represent the most recently available scores and not treatment completion. Results reveal that I-PCIT reduced child externalizing and internalizing problems and caregiver stress, and increased parenting skills and child compliance with medium to large effects even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, the study examined components of our virtual service training model associated with the greatest improvements in child and caregiver outcomes. Preliminary findings revealed that locally and collaboratively developed strategies (e.g., online communities of practice, training videos and guides) had the strongest association with child and caregiver outcomes. Implications for virtual service delivery, implementation, and practice in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic are discussed.
The effect of tilt-suppression on post-rotatory vestibular nystagmus was investigated to assess the function of the caudal cerebellar vermis (lobules IX and X, or nodulus and uvula) in 13 school-age children with high-functioning autism (HFA) and 10 normal controls. Tilt-suppression of the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) refers to the decreasing of the duration of post-rotatory vestibular nystagmus that occurs when the head is moved out of the plane in which it was located during the previous sustained constant-velocity rotation. The participant is rotated in a vestibular chair with the head upright and then the head is tilted forward just after the chair stops rotating. Such tilt-suppression is impaired with lesions of the cerebellar nodulus and portions of the uvula. Results show that children with HFA have normal post-rotatory nystasmus with the head upright and normal attenuation of post-rotatory nystagmus induced by head tilt. These behavioral findings suggest that lobules IX and X of the cerebellum are spared in high-functioning autism. 相似文献
