The current study is aimed at evaluating the relationship between attachment and identity development, and their influence on psychological well-being in adolescents with and without disabilities in Kenya. The sample was composed of 296 adolescents (151 with disabilities and 145 without any disability). The mean age in our sample was 16.84 years (SD = 1.75). Adolescents with disabilities had significantly lower scores in identity formation, paternal attachment, and life satisfaction. A path model indicated that identity formation partially mediated the relationship between secure attachment and psychological well-being. Our findings indicate that both parent and peer attachment play an important role in the identity formation and psychological well-being of adolescents in Kenya, irrespective of a disabling condition. A multigroup analysis indicated that while the structure of the relationship between variables held for groups, the pattern and strength of the relationships differed. Implications for practice, especially the guidance and counseling services in schools, are discussed.  相似文献

AIM: To validate tissue microarray (TMA) for endometrial cancer by comparing immunohistochemical staining results of triplicate core biopsies on TMA with the results of full-section analysis. METHODS: The study material consisted of slides and selected tissue blocks of 41 patients with endometrioid cancer of the endometrium. A TMA was constructed. Both the TMA and the slides were stained with the same antibodies against progesterone receptor (PR), oestrogen receptor, p53 and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA). Concordance between results was expressed as the kappa statistic. RESULTS: Concordance between the staining results of TMA and whole slides was good for PR (kappa = 0.69), oestrogen receptor (kappa = 0.78), p53 (kappa = 0.81) and EMA (kappa = 0.72). Concordance between the results on TMA and slides depends on the number of assessable cores per tumour. Three assessable cores per case result in outcomes that are at least 94% similar to those achieved using conventional tissue sections with a two-class scoring system. This is independent of focal or diffuse staining patterns. CONCLUSION: TMA is a useful tool for further analysis of the molecular pathways in endometrial cancer. The effect of selection has to be taken into account when the prognostic value of protein expression on TMA is determined.  相似文献

Feline amyloidosis is an uncommon disorder caused by deposits of amyloid in a variety of organs. Most frequently encountered types are amyloid derived of pancreatic islet amyloid polypeptide (AIAPP) in older cats and of the apolipoprotein, apo-serum amyloid A (AA) in Abyssinian/Somali (Aby) and Siamese/Oriental (Siam) cats occurring at a relatively young age. For the AA protein of the Aby, Siam and domestic shorthair cat (DSH) breed different amino acid sequences have been described. It is not yet clear, however, whether the tendency to develop AA amyloidosis in Aby and Siam is associated with specific apoSAA protein sequences and whether this is breed specific. In this study, DNA from one Siam and two DSH cats revealed on Southern blot three bands suggesting at least three genes or gene clusters. The SAA cDNAs of hepatic mRNA from three Abys, five Siams and five DSHs were amplified by RT-PCR, cloned and sequenced. Siams and Abys had limited SAA sequence variability. All five Siams, three of which were positive for amyloid, had the amyloidogenic Siam SAA and the amyloidogenic Aby SAA sequence. Two of the Abys, both with amyloid, had the amyloidogenic Aby SAA sequence. The third Aby, without amyloid, missed its amyloidogenic sequence. The SAA sequences of the DSHs found in the present preliminary survey, suggested a possible tendency for more variability, whereas the amyloidogenic Siam as well as the amyloidogenic Aby sequence were found once. Up to five different sequences were found in a single animal. All five DSHs, moreover, had a specific sequence lacking in the Siams and Abys. The present results, especially those of the Siams, favor that in addition to the occurrence of amyloid associated SAA genes other factors such as infections and inflammatory processes are involved in the development of phenotypical amyloidosis.  相似文献
