The relative contribution of tonic vergence to the maximum near vergence response as a function of age and the development of presbyopia has received little attention. Tonic vergence position was measured subjectively in a group of 50 subjects between 20 and 68 years of age. While there was no progressive trend with age. tonic vergence did exhibit a small but consistent convergent increase after 40 years of age, Thus, tonic vergence showed a slight change, possibly of a motor adaptive nature, concurrent with increasing age and the development of clinical presbyopia.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To compare the estimated radiation doses delivered to the cardiac chambers (CC) and coronary arteries (CA) for 5 postmastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) techniques. METHODS AND MATERIALS: A dosimetry study of 20 left-sided PMRT cases was conducted. Cardiac chambers (left and right atria [LA/RA] and left and right ventricles [LV/RV]) and coronary vessels (left main [LM], left anterior descending [LAD], left circumflex [LCX], right coronary [RCA] and posterior descending [PDA] arteries) were contoured on contrast-enhanced CT scans and verified by a cardiologist (T.K.). Five PMRT techniques were applied to each case; 50 Gy in 2 Gy fractions was delivered to the chest wall +/- internal mammary node targets. The techniques were: (1) standard tangents (TAN); (2) cobalt (Co); (3) reverse hockey stick (RHS); (4) mixed photon/electron beam (20/80); and (5) partially wide tangent fields (PWTF). Three-dimensional dose calculations for 100 plans were performed for all structures. Plans were compared by using the mean dose (Dmean) and the volume that received more than 30 Gy (V(30)) and 45 Gy (V(45)) for each structure. RESULTS: Cobalt and 20/80 techniques delivered higher Dmeans to the whole heart and individual cardiac chambers (RA, RV, LA, and LV) as compared with the other three techniques. The heart received a Dmean of 21.03 +/- 3.5 Gy from Co and 11.87 +/- 5.22 Gy from 20/80. The remaining techniques delivered heart Dmeans of 2.90-4.94 Gy. When V(30) was used as a metric, all techniques had comparably low V(30) to the heart, except for Co, which resulted in a significantly higher irradiated volume of right-sided cardiac chambers (59.06% +/- 30.7 for RA F-test < 0.0001; and 61.46% +/- 22.13 for RV, F-test < 0.0001). Dmean to the proximal LAD (LAD_p) was significantly higher for RHS (17.64 +/- 7.43 Gy) and 20/80 (20.52 +/- 8.36 Gy) and lowest for PWTF (9.5 +/- 4.16 Gy). The Dmean for the distal LAD (LAD_d) was significantly lower with PWTF (11.02 +/- 7.34 Gy) than with all other techniques, including TAN (p < 0.0001). Similar results for PWTF and TAN were observed when V30 and V45 were used. CONCLUSIONS: Cardiac substructures receive the most radiation exposure after PMRT with CO, 20/80 or both and least exposure with PWTF. Although TAN resulted in significant sparing of the majority of the cardiac structures, a significantly higher dose and volume of LAD was exposed when compared with PWTF. Although the clinical relevance of these dose differences is not clearly understood, these dosimetric estimates can serve as a baseline in the development of new techniques for locoregional treatment that will further reduce cardiac exposure.  相似文献

The present study examined the recently proposed two-process model of localization performance in which a shift of attention, providing coarse location information, is followed by a saccadic eye movement, providing fine location information. In experiment 1 the nature of the localization response was manipulated. In contrast to the indirect response mode used in the study by Adam et al., i.e., manipulating the arrow keys to move the cursor to the target location, experiment 1 required subjects to point to the target location. The high degree of similarity between the pattern of results obtained with the pointing and cursor response indicated that performance in the localization paradigm was not differentially affected by the nature of the required response. In experiment 2 the characteristics of the backward masking stimulus was manipulated by employing three masking conditions: (1) a long-duration mask; (2) a short-duration mask (100 ms); and (3) a nomask condition. Results showed that the long-duration mask caused interference at short and facilitation at long intervals between onset of target and mask; the short-duration mask caused interference only at short intervals. Overall the findings were consistent with the two-process model of localization performance.  相似文献

Our previous research has shown that observing patterns of eye fixations is a successful method of establishing differences in underlying cognitive processes between groups of drivers. Eye movements recorded from drivers in a laboratory while they watch film clips recorded from a driver's perspective can be used to identify scanpaths and search patterns that reveal ability differences. In the present study 12 older subjects (60-75 years) and 12 younger subjects (30-45 years) watched clips for potential hazards such as other road users appearing on an intersecting trajectory. Acuity and visual field differences between the two groups were eliminated through screening, so that only age-related differences would emerge. Eye fixations were analysed on a frame-by-frame basis to generate sequences of codes representing the location and object of the viewer's interest, before and during the appearance of a hazard. These codes were analysed for the existence of two fixation scanpaths using Markov Matrices. Unique scanpaths were identified for each group of drivers before and during the hazard. Evidence from the inspection of different objects and from the spread of the search indicated that both groups of driver were sensitive to attentional capture by the appearance of the hazard. Detection of the hazards - both speed and accuracy - was similar for older and younger drivers, although the older drivers perceived the films as being more hazardous in general. There is little evidence in this study of an age-related decline in the search of the scene when detecting hazards.  相似文献

Evidence from eye-tracking experiments has provided mixed support for saliency map models of inspection, with the task set for the viewer accounting for some of the discrepancies between predictions and observations. In the present experiment viewers inspected pictures of road scenes with the task being to decide whether or not they would enter a highway from a junction. Road safety observations have concluded that highly visible road users are less likely to be involved in crashes, suggesting that saliency is important in real-world tasks. The saliency of a critical vehicle was varied in the present task, as was the type of vehicle and the preferred vehicle of the viewer. Decisions were influenced by saliency, with more risky decisions when low saliency motorcycles were present. Given that the vehicles were invariably inspected, this may relate to the high incidence of “looked-but-failed-to-see” crashes involving motorcycles and to prevalence effects in visual search. Eye-tracking measures indicated effects of saliency on the fixation preceding inspection of the critical vehicle (as well as effects on inspection of the vehicle itself), suggesting that high saliency can attract an early fixation. These results have implications for recommendations about the conspicuity of vulnerable road users.  相似文献

The literature on nearwork-induced transient myopia (NITM) is reviewed, with NITM being defined as the short-term myopic far point shift immediately following a sustained near visual task. A majority of these investigations demonstrated the presence of NITM for a variety of test parameters, e.g., visual acuity, contrast sensitivity and far point. Overall, these studies reported relatively small myopic shifts, with a mean of approximately 0.40 D and a range from 0.12 to 1.30 D. The subsequent decay is characterized by an exponential function with a relatively short time course. While the precise etiology and implications of NITM remain unclear, speculations regarding its origin and relevance to clinical myopia are discussed. Studies that did not demonstrate NITM are also reviewed.  相似文献

The Gaussian shape of reciprocal latency distributions typically found in single saccade tasks supports the idea of a race-to-threshold process underlying the decision when to saccade (R. H. Carpenter & M. L. Williams, 1995). However, second and later saccades in a visual search task revealed decision-rate (=reciprocal latency) distributions that were skewed Gamma-like (E. M. Van Loon, I. T. Hooge, & A. V. Van den Berg, 2002). Here we consider a related family of Beta-prime distributions that follows from strong competition with a signal to stop the sequence, and is described by two parameters: a fixate and saccade threshold. In three saccadic search experiments, we tried to manipulate the two thresholds independently, thereby expecting change in shape and mean of the reciprocal latency distribution. Interestingly, rate distributions for later saccades were significantly better fit by Beta-prime than by Gamma functions. Increases in the distribution's skew were found with higher display density, but only for second and later saccades. First saccade rate distributions were not altered by the expected target location or by visual information presented prior to the search, but making pre-search saccades did influence both thresholds. The mean rate remained a stereotyped function of ordinal position in the saccade sequence. Our results support strong competition between two decision signals underlying the timing of saccades.  相似文献
