BackgroundPalliative care improves the quality of life of patients facing a life-threatening illness. Nurses should improve their caregiving capacity. In Ethiopia, palliative care is underestimated. The availability of data regarding the knowledge and attitude of nurses towards palliative care is critically important. Thus, this study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and attitude of nurses towards palliative care.MethodsInstitution-based, cross-sectional study was conducted in North Wollo hospitals. A simple random sampling technique was used. The data was collected using structured self-administered questionnaires from February to March 2019. The analysis was done using a binary logistic regression model. P-value < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant.ResultsThe result revealed that 59.7% of the respondents had good knowledge and 44.2% had a favorable attitude towards palliative care. Level of education, experience in caring for chronically ill patients, and experience in caring for dying family members within the last 6 months had a significant association with the knowledge of nurses. Monthly income, experience in caring for chronically ill patients, formal palliative care education, and knowledge were found statistically significant with the attitude of nurses towards palliative care.ConclusionMore than half of the nurses had good knowledge, but less than half of the respondents had a favorable attitude towards palliative care. Attention should be given towards palliative care by the health policy and needs to be incorporated into the national curriculum of nursing education. 相似文献

A 7-year-old male with bilateral palpable testicular masses was found to have metastatic stage IV Wilms' tumors associated with both left renal and lung lesions. The patient was treated successfully with testicular-sparing bilateral partial orchiectomies, radical nephrectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation, with 8 years free of recurrence. This is the only reported case of bilateral testicular tumors from metastatic Wilms' tumor that were present at the initial presentation. A review of the literature of all previous reported cases of metachronous or related testicular metastatic Wilms' tumors is reported. 相似文献

Human aldo-keto reductase (AKR) 1C3 is a monomeric cytoplasmic multifunctional enzyme that reduces ketosteroids, ketoprostaglandins, and lipid aldehydes. AKR1C3 was initially identified as an enzyme involved in steroid metabolism. However, immunohistochemistry has demonstrated AKR1C3 in normal adult kidneys with expression in Bowman'' capsule, the mesangial cells, proximal and distal tubules, as well as mature urothelial epithelium. The significance of its spatial distribution and metabolic activities in the kidney remains undefined. In addition to its ability to catalyze steroid hormones (including androgen, desoxycorticosterone, and progesterone) and involvement in prostaglandins metabolism, we suspect that AKR1C3 may function as a chemical barrier in the renal tubules for normal function in mature kidneys. Moreover, AKR1C3 may represent a developmental marker for some urological epithelial tissues. In this study, we demonstrate widespread expression of AKR1C3 in renal neoplasms with a phenotype recapitulating mature kidney (i.e., renal cell carcinoma) and urothelium also known as transitional epithelium (i.e., papillary urothelial carcinoma), but noted limited AKR1C3 expression in renal neoplasms with a phenotype recapitulating embryonic kidneys (i.e., Wilms'' tumor). Our results suggest that AKR1C3 may represent a developmental marker that is related to renal epithelium maturity. 相似文献
