There are limited data on the impact of COVID-19 in children with a kidney transplant (KT). We conducted a prospective cohort study through the Improving Renal Outcomes Collaborative (IROC) to collect clinical outcome data about COVID-19 in pediatric KT patients. Twenty-two IROC centers that care for 2732 patients submitted testing and outcomes data for 281 patients tested for SARS-CoV-2 by PCR. Testing indications included symptoms and/or potential exposures to COVID-19 (N = 134, 47.7%) and/or testing per hospital policy (N = 154, 54.8%). Overall, 24 (8.5%) patients tested positive, of which 15 (63%) were symptomatic. Of the COVID-19-positive patients, 16 were managed as outpatients, six received non-ICU inpatient care and two were admitted to the ICU. There were no episodes of respiratory failure, allograft loss, or death associated with COVID-19. To estimate incidence, subanalysis was performed for 13 centers that care for 1686 patients that submitted all negative and positive COVID-19 results. Of the 229 tested patients at these 13 centers, 10 (5 asymptomatic) patients tested positive, yielding an overall incidence of 0.6% and an incidence among tested patients of 4.4%. Pediatric KT patients in the United States had a low estimated incidence of COVID-19 disease and excellent short-term outcomes. 相似文献

We examined whether challenging upright stance influences the execution of a grasping task. Participants reached to grasp a small sphere while standing either on a stable surface or on foam. Before reaching for the sphere, participants exhibited more body sway and greater fluctuations in the centre of pressure when standing on foam. While reaching for the sphere, the overall body posture changed less when standing on foam than when standing on the stable surface. The digits’ and wrist's movements towards the sphere were no different when standing on foam than when standing on the stable surface. Presumably, the redundancy in the way movements can be performed is exploited to choose the most suitable changes in joint angles to achieve the desired movements of the digits under the prevailing conditions. 相似文献

A 10‐year‐old boy had multiple grouped pits with black plugs arranged along the lines of Blaschko on his left chest, arm, and palm. Involvement of the palms is rarely reported in the literature. Recent reports have described mosaic acneiform conditions that could share pathogenetic mechanisms with nevus comedonicus. Summary Nucleotide sequence of the S and M RNA segments of a Groundnut bud necrosis virus isolate from Vigna radiata (mungbean isolate, GBNV-MB) was determined and compared with another isolate from Arachis hypogaea (groundnut isolate, GBNV-type). Comparative sequence analysis revealed that the genome organization of the S and M RNA segments
of both GBNV-MB and GBNV-type isolates was similar. However, considerable differences were observed in their intergenic regions
(IGRs) and the glycoprotein precursors (Gn/Gc) of the M RNA segments. M RNA IGRs of GBNV-MB and GBNV-type isolates differed
in size by 14 nucleotides. This difference was of 75 nucleotides in another GBNV isolate from Lycopersicon esculentum (tomato). Sequence comparison of the M RNA IGRs of GBNV isolates from mungbean, groundnut and tomato from India revealed
56–89% sequence identity. The topology of Gn/Gc revealed the presence of both N-glycosylation (5) and O-glycosylation (1) sites in GBNV-MB isolate, whereas only N-glycosylation sites (4) were present in GBNV-type isolate. 相似文献

In 2013, a novel betacoronavirus was identified in fecal samples from dromedaries in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Antibodies against the recombinant nucleocapsid protein of the virus, which we named dromedary camel coronavirus (DcCoV) UAE-HKU23, were detected in 52% of 59 dromedary serum samples tested. In an analysis of 3 complete DcCoV UAE-HKU23 genomes, we identified the virus as a betacoronavirus in lineage A1. The DcCoV UAE-HKU23 genome has G+C contents; a general preference for G/C in the third position of codons; a cleavage site for spike protein; and a membrane protein of similar length to that of other betacoronavirus A1 members, to which DcCoV UAE-HKU23 is phylogenetically closely related. Along with this coronavirus, viruses of at least 8 other families have been found to infect camels. Because camels have a close association with humans, continuous surveillance should be conducted to understand the potential for virus emergence in camels and for virus transmission to humans. 相似文献

In a molecular epidemiology study of hepatitis E virus (HEV) in dromedaries in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, HEV was detected in fecal samples from 3 camels. Complete genome sequencing of 2 strains showed >20% overall nucleotide difference to known HEVs. Comparative genomic and phylogenetic analyses revealed a previously unrecognized HEV genotype.Hepatitis E virus (HEV) belongs to the family Hepeviridae and genus Hepevirus. Among humans worldwide, HEV is the most common cause of acute viral hepatitis. The disease is generally self-limiting, but mortality rates are high among pregnant women and young infants. Chronic HEV infection is a problem for immunocompromised patients, such as those who have received a solid organ transplant and those with HIV infection. In addition to humans, HEV has been found in the other mammals: pigs, boar, deer, rodents, ferrets, rabbits, mongoose, bats, cattle, sheep, foxes, minks, and horses (1–3). Among the 4 known HEV genotypes, HEV1 and HEV2 infect only humans; whereas, HEV3 and HEV4 can infect humans, pigs, and other mammals. Human infections with HEV3 and HEV4 have been associated with consumption of raw or undercooked pork or game meat (4). Traditionally, HEV infection is mainly transmitted through water contaminated with infected feces. Since water supplies and sanitary infrastructures have been improved, animals have become a major source of human HEV infection. The antimicrobial activity of extracts of the leaves and stems of two different varieties of Hypericum was evaluated by the disc diffusion method. Petroleum ether, acetone, chloroform and methanol extracts of Hypericum mysorense and Hypericum patulum stems and leaves were investigated for their antimicrobial activity against six different strains of bacteria and fungi by the zone of inhibition method (ZIM). The results showed that both the stem and leaf extracts of both species have a very broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. The petroleum ether and acetone extract of the leaves and stems of H. mysorense did not show antifungal effects against any of the six fungal organisms tested but other extracts showed a potential antifungal effect which was comparable to that of griseofulvin, the standard antifungal agent. Thus these results demonstrate that the leaf and stem extracts of both the Hypericum species have a very broad spectrum of activity and suggest that they may be useful in the treatment of various microbial infections. 相似文献

Transcriptional repressor BCL-6 immortalizes germinal center-like B cells in the absence of p53 function 总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
Chromosomal rearrangements in non-Hodgkin's B-cell lymphoma implicate BCL-6 as an oncogene, yet direct evidence for BCL-6 acting as an oncogene in B cells has been lacking. Here, we show that BCL-6 can immortalize primary B cells, but only in the absence of p53 tumor suppressor function. The expression of BCL-6 led to greatly increased B-cell proliferation, particularly in response to CD40 stimulation. Furthermore, BCL-6-infected p53-deficient B cells gave rise to immortalized cell lines that could be maintained by CD40 stimulation. We found that in primary mouse B cells, BCL-6 repressed expression of the Blimp-1, p27kip1, and cyclin D2 target genes. BCL-6 did not markedly repress the PDCD2 and BCL-XL target genes. The BCL-6 immortalized cell lines had a phenotype consistent with germinal center B cells, they expressed the germinal center-specific M17 gene, and a significant fraction of the cells stained positive with PNA. Our data indicate that BCL-6 may act to maintain B cells in a germinal center-like state, and repression of Blimp-1 by BCL-6 may be particularly crucial for stabilization of the germinal center phenotype. Our data also suggest that disruption of the p53 pathway may be crucial for the development of BCL-6-expressing B-cell lymphomas. 相似文献
