A MORPHOLOGICAL STUDY ON THE RECEPTORS OF ACUPUNCTURE POINTS

In this article we summarize our morpholo-gical studies on receptors of acupuncture pointsfrom 1972 to 1979.We first discovered threepoints in the area of Heou(L.I.4)of man simplyby finger manipulation.The receptors of need-ling sensation in those points was in the muscularlayer.It was the same with the receptor ofneedling sensation of Zusanli(St.36)point.Themuscle spindle of the first dorsal interosseous andthe adductor pollicis was packed in the samedirection as the needling sensation of the acu-puncture points.At Zusanli point the musclespindle formed a mass just like a nucleus.Thereceptors of the acupuncture point of Chengshan(U.B.51)are tendon organs,because the tendonorgans here are approximately in the center ofthis point.The receptors of the acupuncture points loca-ted near tendons and articular capsule perhapsare lamellated corpuscles.We investigated 9acupuncture points on the scalp.No receptorswith capsules were found except free nerve en-dings,The special free nerve endings are pos-sibly the receptors of acupuncture points on thescalp.
