Pulmonary valve preservation in Tetralogy of Fallot with a mildly hypoplastic annulus-should we do it?

Background  

The decision to preserve the pulmonary valve during intracardiac repair of Tetralogy of Fallot [TOF] is traditionally based on the intra-operative measurement of pulmonary annulus by a Hegar dilator as per Rowlatt’s table. We sought to evaluate if there can be flexibility in not using a transannular patch repair in Indian population with mildly hypoplastic pulmonary annulus.

Autograft mitral valve replacement: a new technique

We describe a new technique wherein we have used the Ionescu Ross Wooler stent for housing the pulmonary autograft. We believe that this technique is easy and reproducible and offers many advantages over the previously described techniques.     

Intraoperative retrograde TEVAR to control endoleak after emergent total arch replacement and frozen elephant trunk repair for ruptured Kommerell's diverticulum

We report an emergent complex hybrid repair of a type A intramural hematoma with a tear of the aortic arch at the site of Kommerell's diverticulum and an aberrant right subclavian artery. We identified a type IA endoleak intraoperatively, which was managed immediately with proximal extension. Performing this operation in the hybrid operating room facilitated optimal surgical management.     

Congenital absence of superficial posterior compartment calf muscles

Although various congenital abnormalities have been described, congenital absence of calf musculature is extremely rare, with only one report on its complete absence. We are the first to describe a case of congenital absence of muscles of the superficial posterior compartment of the calf presenting in a toddler. The child presented with a history of a painless limp, however no significant difference was found in functional gait analysis. We suggest that such cases should be monitored and parents can be reassured that no immediate treatment is required.     

Efficacy and safety of beating heart coronary revascularization coupled with ascending aorta-bifemoral grafting: Analysis of short term results

Introduction  

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) frequently coexists with Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) and poses management issues. When there is a concomitant infrarenal aortic occlusive disease, abdominal aorta is the traditional donor of bypass inflow to the lower limbs. However, the ascending aorta may also be used as the source of inflow to both the femoral and coronary arteries in patients who present with combined CAD and PVD. Here, 5 year follow up results of simultaneous off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB) and Ascending Aorto-Bifemoral Grafting [AABG] are presented and merits of the procedure are discussed.     

Congenital Aneurysm of Left Atrial Appendage: A Case Report

Abstract   Aneurysm of the left atrial appendage (LAA) is a very infrequent condition. We report a case of a two-year-old child with congenital aneurysm of the LAA with a large thrombus in it. He presented with an episode of seizures with left-sided hemiparesis. Diagnosis was based on transthoracic echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging. The patient was successfully treated by surgical resection of the aneurysm and removal of the thrombus. (J Card Surg 2010;25:37-40)
