The purpose of this study was to investigate the intestinal hemodynamics and gut glutamine metabolism during endotoxemia,
and their correlation with altered intestinal absorptive capacity and permeability. Seventeen Sprague-Dawley rats were used
in the study. The endotoxin group (ENDO) recieved endotoxin (10 mg/kg intraperitoneally,n=9), while the control group (CONT,n=8) received saline injection. Twelve hours later, D-xylose (0.5 g/kg) and fluorescein isothiocyanate-dextran (FITC-dextran,
750 mg/kg) were given by oral gavage. One hour later abdominal aortic (AA) blood flow, superior mesenteric venous (SMV) flow,
mean arterial pressure (MAP), central venous pressure (CVP), and SMV pressure (SMVP) were also measured. The MAP, AA, and
SMV blood flow decreased (P<0.05), while the CVP and SMVP increased (P<0.05) in the ENDO group as compared with the CONT group. The ENDO group showed significant decreases for both intestinal
glutaminase activity and net intestinal glutamine uptake (P<0.05). The D-xylose concentration in SMV decreased significantly (P<0.05) in the ENDO group as compared with the CONT group. However, the plasma FITC-dextran concentration showed no significant

An autopsy case of bronchiolo-alveolar adenocarcinoma in the lung is reported. The patient is a 70-year-old male who complained of severe cough with 500–600 ml watery sputum a day, loss of weight, and general fatigue. Autopsy revealed numerous whitish tumors in various sizes with multiple cysts in both lungs, with no metastasis being found in any other organs. Histological findings identified the tumor as a bronchiolo-alveolar adenocarcinoma originating from the lungs. Electron-microscopic findings showed that the tumor cells were covered by prominent microvilli, and contained abundant irregulary-shaped cytoplasmic vacuoles suggestive of mucin. 相似文献

The percentage of cell number of 3 types of male anterior pituitary cells was counted in autopsy cases with liver cirrhosis and cases that died of other conditions. These cases were then compared. In liver cirrhosis, acidophils (somatotrophs and mammotrophs) showed a tendency to increase in cell percentages. Immunocytochem-istry also revealed the increase in the number of somatotrophs and mammotrophs in liver cirrhosis. Comparison of protein sythesis in cirrhotic liver and in healthy liver, in vitro, revealed that in the cirrhotic liver tissue protein synthesis was markedly depressed and GH for protein synthesis became more necessary than in a non-cirrhot-ic state. The disturbed protein synthesis and hypoproteinemia were suggested as causative factors of increased acidophils of the anterior lobe of the hypophysis. 相似文献

Migration inhibitory factor (MIF) responds to tissue damage and regulates inflammatory and immunological processes. To elucidate the function of MIF in cutaneous wound healing, we analyzed MIF knockout (KO) mice. After the excision of wounds from the dorsal skin of MIF KO and wild-type (WT) mice, healing was significantly delayed in MIF KO mice compared to WT mice. Lipopolysaccharide treatment significantly increased [(3)H]thymidine uptake in WT mouse fibroblasts compared to MIF KO mouse fibroblasts. Furthermore, there was a significant reduction in fibroblast and keratinocyte migration observed in MIF KO mice after 1-oleoyl-2-lysophosphatidic acid treatment. We subsequently examined whether MIF-impregnated gelatin slow-release microbeads could accelerate skin wound healing. Injection of more than 1.5 microg/500 microl of MIF-impregnated gelatin microbeads around a wound edge accelerated wound healing compared to a single MIF injection without the use of microbeads. MIF-impregnated gelatin microbeads also accelerated skin wound healing in C57BL/6 mice and diabetic db/db mice. Furthermore, incorporating MIF-impregnated gelatin microbeads into an artificial dermis implanted into MIF KO mice accelerated procollagen production and capillary formation. These findings suggest that MIF is crucial in accelerating cutaneous wound healing and that MIF-impregnated gelatin microbeads represent a promising treatment to facilitate skin wound healing. 相似文献

We produced XX<-->XY chimeras by using embryos whose X chromosomes were tagged with EGFP (X*), making the fluorescent green female (XX*) germ cells easily distinguishable from their nonfluorescent male (XY) counterparts. Taking advantage of tagging with EGFP, the XX* "prospermatogonia" were isolated from the testes, and the status of their genomic imprinting was examined. It was shown that these XX cells underwent a paternal imprinting, despite their chromosomal constitution. As previously indicated in sex-reversal XXsxr testes, we also found a few green XX* germ cells developed as "eggs" within the seminiferous tubules of XX*<-->XY chimeric testes. These cells were indistinguishable from XX* prospermatogonia at birth but resumed oogenesis in a testicular environment. The biological nature of the "testicular eggs" was examined by recovering the eggs from chimeric testes. The testicular eggs not only formed an egg-specific structure, the zona pellucida, but also were able to fuse with sperm. The collected testicular eggs were indicated to undergo maternal imprinting, despite the testicular environment. The genomic imprinting did not always follow the environmental conditions of where the germ cells resided; rather, it was defined by the sex that was chosen by the germ cells at early embryonic stage. 相似文献
