R-mode factor analysis was applied to characterize the chemical composition of human teeth investigated by particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE), Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) techniques. The approach developed in this study enabled the separation between essential mineral teeth components and the pollutants deposited in teeth tissues during the human life. The three independent sources of metals incorporated in human teeth were found. The first source, representing about 43% of the variance of the concentration data, was characterized by pollutant elements of power industry emissions. The second factor was loaded with toxic elements of general urban pollution. The third factor represented the tooth source as it contained mainly large fractions of the mineral components of the tooth tissue as Ca and K. 相似文献

Mechano-chemical degradation of poly(ε-caprolactam) {poly[imino(1-oxohexamethylene)]} in the presence of sebacoyl chloride, carried out by vibratory milling, gave polyamide acid chlorides. Subsequently, these products, also by vibratory milling, were condensed with p-phenylenediamine to obtain polymers with aromatic amino groups which by diazotation and coupling reaction were transformed into coloured polymers. The use of some specially selected coupling components (i.e. containing itself primary amino groups) allowed to regulate the colour intensity of the final product when the diazotation and coupling reaction was carried out gradually. 相似文献

Pepducins containing a fatty acid linked to an amino acid sequence derived from cytosolic parts of a G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) constitute a new group of lipopeptide tools in GPCR studies. Pepducins corresponding to the third intracellular loop of formyl peptide receptor 2 (FPR2) activate human neutrophils, and we show here that, in addition, these allosteric modulators of receptor activity also kill bacteria. The functional dualism of FPR2 pepducins could potentially be explored as a novel class of antibacterial drugs with immunomodulatory properties. 相似文献

Freshly prepared ZnO nanoparticles were incorporated into a chitosan solution in weight ratios ranging from 1:1 to 12:1. Starting from the ratio of 3:1 the chitosan solution was transformed into a gel with a high consistency, which incorporates 15 mL water for only 0.1 g solid substance. The powders obtained after drying the gel were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and thermal analysis (TG-DSC). The electronic (UV–vis), infrared (FTIR) and photoluminescence (PL) spectra were also recorded. ZnO particles were coated with gentamicin and incorporated into the chitosan matrix, to yield a ZnO/gentamicin–chitosan gel. The release rate of gentamicin was monitored photometrically. This ZnO/gentamicin–chitosan gel proved great antimicrobial properties, inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa growth in both planktonic and surface-attached conditions. The results indicate that the obtained composite can be used in cutaneous healing for developing improved wound dressings, which combine the antibacterial activity of all three components with the controlled release of the antibiotic. This wound dressing maintains a moist environment at the wound interface, providing a cooling sensation and soothing effect, while slowly releasing the antibiotic. The system is fully scalable to any other soluble drug, as the entire solution remains trapped in the ZnO–chitosan gel. 相似文献

Hodgkin's lymphoma is a potentially curable malignancy of the lymphatic system characterized by a variable number of scattered and large mononucleated and multinucleated tumor cells, the Hodgkin and Reed‐Sternberg cells residing in an abundant heterogeneous admixture of non‐neoplastic inflammatory cells. It represents approximately 30% of all lymphomas according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma typically present with painless peripheral adenopathy, fever, night sweats, and weight loss. We report a rare case of Hodgkin's lymphoma presented as a breast mass in a 23‐year‐old woman diagnosed on fine needle aspiration (FNA). PURPOSE: To assess the Aspergillus galactomannan enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in the diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis (IA) in adult and pediatric oncohematologic patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study was conducted in four patient groups: those with fever of unknown origin (FUO) during neutropenia, suspected pulmonary infection (PI), or nonpulmonary aspergillosis (NPA) and those undergoing surveillance (S) after hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT). IA was classified as definite, probable, or possible, according to European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer/Mycosis Study Group definitions. RESULTS: A total of 3,294 serum samples were collected during 797 episodes (FUO, 261; PI, 297; NPA, 28; and surveillance, 211), and 153 episodes of IA were diagnosed (31 definite, 67 probable, and 55 possible). Three episodes were first suspected from galactomannan ELISA; the remaining 150 cases were diagnosed from clinical or radiologic evidence. Sensitivity of the ELISA was 64.5%, 16.4%, and 25.5% in definite, probable, and possible episodes of IA, respectively, and was lower in patients positive for anti-Aspergillus antibodies than in antibody-negative patients. Most false-positive results occurred in children and in allogeneic HSCT (allo-HSCT) patients. Overall specificity of the ELISA was 94.8%. It was lower in children compared with adults (P <.0001) and in allo-HSCT patients compared with non-allo-HSCT adults (P =.0002). Lowering the ELISA cutoff value from 1.500 to 0.700 seemed more relevant for non-allo-HSCT adults (sensitivity, 73.1%, 44.3%, and 44.7% in definite, probable, and possible IA, respectively; specificity, 94%). CONCLUSION: Galactomannan ELISA seems less sensitive than previously described, and sensitivity can be further reduced by the presence of anti-Aspergillus antibodies. A new cutoff value for the ELISA of 0.700 is proposed for non-allo-HSCT adults. 相似文献
