Ein Vertrags(zahn)arzt, der in einem mit Kollegen aufeinander abgestimmten Verfahren oder Verhalten auf seine Zulassung verzichtet, ist im Anschluss hieran nicht berechtigt, nach Ma?gabe des § 95 Abs. 3 SGB V Versicherte der gesetzlichen Krankenversicherung als Behandlungsf?lle, die erst nach dem Verzicht aufgenommen werden, zu behandeln. Cat-301 immunoreactivity in the lateral geniculate nucleus and visual cortex of the strabismic amblyopic cat

Purpose: It was investigated whether alterations in neuronal structure and function occasioned by strabismic amblyopia also may be reflected in alterations in the expression on Y type neurons of a Cat-301 antibody sensitive antigen in the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) and cortex of our cat model of strabismic amblyopia. Methods/Results: The percentage of positively labelled cells was reduced in LGN laminae that received input from the deviated eye in strabismic amblyopic cats compared with normal cats. In the strabismic cortex, the density of immunopositive neurons was significantly reduced compared with normal, the effect being most pronounced in layer IV Conclusions: Despite previous physiological recordings indicating a decrease in X-cell associated acuity in strabismic amblyopia, the present findings imply that the changes in the early visual experience occasioned by strabismus also produce specific molecular changes in theY neuronal class.

Evacuation of hematomas using liposuction technology: Technique and literature review

Established nonexpanding hematomas can be successfully treated with minimal morbidity using standard liposucstion techniques at the bedside or in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia. The authors presents a series of eight patients and discuss current concepts of dealing with this common and distressing surgical complication.     

Five-Year Outcome After Epilepsy Surgery in Nonmonitored and Monitored Surgical Candidates

Summary: Purpose : We wished to compare outcome 5 years after temporal lobectomy in 28 patients selected for surgery on the basis of interictal EEG patterns with that in 46 patients who underwent EEG-video monitoring studies as part of their preoperative evaluation during the same era.
Methods : The 28 nonmonitored patients had interictal EEG patterns that demonstrated a consistent, unilateral, anterior-midtemporal epileptiform focus, without discordant findings from other studies. Outcomes were assessed for years 4 and 5 after operation.
Results : Twenty-six of 28 (92.9%) nonmonitored patients were seizure-free or had at least 75% reduction in seizures. Twenty-nine of 46 (63.0%) monitored patients were seizure-free or had at least 75% reduction in seizures. Preoperative interictal EEGs of 29 of these patients showed independently localized bitemporal, ex-tratemporal, midposterior temporal, or diffuse epileptiform patterns. The remaining 17 monitored patients had preoperative strictly unilateral anterior-midtemporal interictal discharges, and their outcome was comparable to the nonmonitored group, with 15 (88.8%) seizure-free or with at least 75% reduction in seizures.
Conclusions : A proportion of candidates for epilepsy surgery can be selected without ictal recordings provided that interictal EEGs demonstrate consistent unilateral anterior-midtemporal epileptiform discharges and that other data are not discordant.

9p21 and 13q14 dosages in ependymomas. A clinicopathologic study of 101 cases.

Ependymomas are glial neoplasms whose clinical behavior is difficult to predict based on histology alone. Recently, a comparative genomic hybridization study identified frequent chromosome 9p and 13q losses in anaplastic ependymomas, suggesting that p16 and RB alterations may be involved in tumor progression. In order to test this hypothesis further, 101 myxopapillary, conventional, and anaplastic ependymomas (51 spinal and 50 intracranial tumors) were tested for RB and p16 deletions using fluorescence in situ hybridization. Clinical follow-up, ranging from 2 to 198 months (median 46 months), was obtained in 90 cases (91%). RB and p16 deletions were seen in 22 of 92 (24%) and 22 of 89 (25%) informative cases, respectively. Polysomies were more frequent in the grade I and II spinal tumors, consistent with prior reports of increased aneuploidy in such cases. No significant genetic associations were seen with tumor grade, recurrence, or death, suggesting that 9p and 13q deletions do not play a prominent role in the malignant progression of ependymomas, as has been implicated in other glioma subtypes.
