Chlorpyrifos is the most used insecticide in Argentina. Cnesterodon decemmaculatus is a widely distributed, endemic fish from Neotropical America. It attains high densities in the shallow water assemblages of Argentina and Brazil. The aim of this study was to assess the acute toxicity of chlorpyrifos to C. decemmaculatus. The mean 96-h LC50 of three independent determinations was 105.3 (±?3.1) μg/L. Sublethal effects were observed. Swimming behavioral changes at each chlorpyrifos exposure concentration were reported. C. decemmaculatus represents a good model for ecotoxicological risk assessment. 相似文献

The ability of the perforant path/dentate granule cell synapse of the hippocampal formation to establish and maintain enhanced levels of synaptic transmission in response to tetanization (long-term potentiation, LTP) was investigated in freely moving rats at 15, 30, and 90 days of age. Measures of (1) the slope of the population excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP), and (2) the population spike amplitude (PSA) obtained before, and at several times following tetanization, were used to evaluate the magnitude and duration of LTP as a function of age. Significant enhancement of both EPSP slope and PSA measures was obtained from animals of all three ages in response to perforant path tetanization. The initial degree of enhancement was essentially the same across the age groups, ranging from +27% to +38% of pretetanization levels for EPSP slope measures and +60% to +75% of pretetanization levels for PSA measures, obtained 15 min after tetanization. The duration of this enhancement obtained from animals of the preweaning group was significantly longer than that obtained from either 30- or 90-day-old animals. Enhanced measures of both EPSP slope and PSA decayed to baseline levels in these older animals 18 to 24 h after tetanization, while animals tetanized at 15 days of age maintained potentiated levels of both measures for a period of 5 days following tetanization. Tetanization of 15-day-old animals resulted in a significant reduction in the latency to EPSP onset without affecting the time-based relationships among the other measured parameters, which included latency of the population spike onset, population spike minimum, and population spike offset. Tetanization had no effect on the latency measure of any of these parameters in either of the two older age groups. The primarily postnatal development of the dentate granule cell population suggests that both functionally immature GABAergic modulation of granule cell activity and the differential development of components of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor complex may be involved in the age-related differences in the induction and expression of the LTP phenomenon. This study represents the first developmental characterization of LTP in the perforant path/dentate granule cell synapse in freely moving rats during early development. The results indicate that LTP can be reliably established and maintained in behaving rats as young as 15 days of age. Whereas the degree of potentiation at this age is equivalent to that obtained from juveniles and young adults, the duration of the effect significantly outlasts that obtained from older animals in which development of the dentate gyrus is more functionally mature. © 1994 Wiley-Liss, Inc. 相似文献

Four children were diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis (IPH), over a period of 4 years. Retrospectively, antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) were studied by indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) and ELISA in 18 sera from these patients, stored at -20°C. ANCA-positive sera, from 1/20 to 1/1, 200 dilution, were found in 3/4 of the patients, by IIF. The patient with the highest titre of ANCA died 3 months later during an acute crisis, the other two patients need a minimal dose of steroids. In one case only, a patient who is still without treatment, had no ANCA. The antibodies anti-myeloperoxidase and anti-pro-teinase-3 were negative or at border line levels. Rheumatoid factor, anti-nuclear (Hep-2), anti-endomysial, anti-reticulin and antibasement membrane antibodies were negative in all sera. The surviving patients were followed-up for more than 10 years with no systemic or renal disease appearences. The presence of serum ANCA may help to classify children with pulmonary haemorrhage and may have a prognostic value. 相似文献

Rats with a history of severe early malnutrition (6% casein) were compared to well-fed control animals on an ascending series of DRL values ranging from 5 to 60 seconds. The 6% rats who were dietarily-rehabilitated at weaning did not differ from control animals in efficiency, responses per reinforcement or response rate. In contrast, rats chronically exposed to 6% diets performed so poorly during training with continuous reinforcement that they did not advance to even the first DRL (5-sec) condition. These findings show that severely-undernourished rats can perform within normal limits on even high DRL values, provided they are well trained and that they have adequate nutritional rehabilitation. 相似文献

Split‐hand/foot malformation (SHFM) is a genetically heterogeneous congenital limb malformation typically limited to a defect of the central rays of the autopod, presenting as a median cleft of hands and feet. It can be associated with long bone deficiency or included in more complex syndromes. Among the numerous genetic causes, WNT10B homozygous variants have been recently identified in consanguineous families, but remain still rarely described (SHFM6; MIM225300). We report on three novel SHFM families harboring WNT10B variants and review the literature, allowing us to highlight some clinical findings. The feet are more severely affected than the hands and there is a frequent asymmetry without obvious side‐bias. Syndactyly of third–fourth fingers was a frequent finding (62%). Polydactyly, which was classically described in SHFM6, was only present in 27% of patients. No genotype–phenotype correlation is delineated but heterozygous individuals might have mild features of SHFM, suggesting a dose‐effect of the WNT10B loss‐of‐function. 相似文献

We report the first case of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-related primary hepatic leiomyosarcoma in a 9-year-old girl. The pathologic diagnosis was made on a partial hepatectomy specimen and was confirmed by immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. No human immunodeficiency virus-related nucleic acid was identified in tumor cells by in situ hybridization. Review of the AIDS-related literature reveals a rising incidence of tumors of smooth muscle origin in human immunodeficiency virus-infected patients. This case study details the eighth pediatric AIDS patient with a tumor of smooth muscle origin and represents the 20th and the youngest patient with primary hepatic leiomyosarcoma to be reported in the world literature. 相似文献

Taurine increases in brain extracellular space due to glutamate agonists were studied in vivo in the rat hippocampus using a dialysis technique, both in the absence and in the presence of glutamate receptor antagonists. Extracellular taurine levels increased during perfusions of agonists, listed in descending order of potency: kainate (KA), N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA), and quisqualate (QA). While taurine increases due to KA or QA perfusions were inhibited by 6,7-dinitro-quinoxaline-2,3-dione (DNQX), those induced by NMDA were abolished in the presence of 3-(carboxypiperazin-4-yl)-propyl-1-phosphonic acid (CPP). These results indicate that increases in extracellular taurine levels evoked by NMDA, KA or QA in the rat hippocampus are caused by activation of their specific receptors. Field potentials, concomitantly recorded, were quickly abolished during NMDA or KA perfusions (0.1 mM), while QA (0.25 mM) induced the appearance of bicuculline-like evoked responses. Since taurine has been proposed as an osmoregulatory substance in the rat brain, and cell swelling is known to be an early component of glutamate agonists neurotoxicity, the increases in extracellular taurine reported here could be due to taurine released through an osmoregulatory process, counteracting the neurotoxic cellular oedema induced by glutamate agonists. 相似文献

Rats with a history of prenatal and early postnatal undernutrition (6 or 8% casein diets) were "nutritionally rehabilitated" at weaning, and were compared to well-fed animals (25% casein) at maturity. The severely-malnourished (6%) animals were hyperactive in the open field and when tested in a stabilimeter. They also appeared to be highly active during the early trials in 8-arm radial maze testing where they made more arm entries and re-entry errors than the well-fed rats. In terms of trials to criterion, however, their scores on the radial maze and on a spatial alternation task fell within normal limits. The moderately-malnourished (8%) rats tended to perform at control levels on the learning measures, but these rats were not as active as the 6% rats on the measures of activity. The global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected some communities and populations more than others. We propose that an interdisciplinary framework of ‘One Health Disparities’ advances understanding of the social and systemic issues that drive COVID-19 in vulnerable populations. One Health Disparities integrates the social environment with One Health perspectives on the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. To apply this framework, we consider One Health Disparities that emerge in three key components of disease transmission: exposure, susceptibility, and disease expression. Exposure disparities arise through variation in contact with COVID-19’s causative agent, SARS-CoV-2. Disparities in susceptibility and disease expression also exist; these are driven by biological and social factors, such as diabetes and obesity, and through variation in access to healthcare. We close by considering how One Health Disparities informs understanding of spillback into new animal reservoirs, and what this might mean for further human health disparities.Lay summaryOne Health focuses on interconnections between human, animal, and environmental health. We propose that social environments are also important to One Health and help illuminate disparities in the coronavirus pandemic, including its origins, transmission and susceptibility among humans, and spillback to other species.
