The lamellated periosteal reaction produced in the hind limbs of seven beagle puppies following ligation of the femoral vein was used as a model for studying the mechanism of lamellated new bone formation. Rather than resulting from alternating periods of slow and fast growth, this lamellated periosteal reaction was caused by acceleration of the normal process of periosteal bone growth. This involvement is thought to explain the "physiologic" periosteal new bone of early infancy.  相似文献

ObjectivesDiverse instruments are used to measure problem gambling and Gambling Disorder intervention outcomes. The 2004 Banff consensus agreement proposed necessary features for reporting gambling treatment efficacy. To address the challenge of including these features in a single instrument, a process was initiated to develop the Gambling Disorder Identification Test (GDIT), as an instrument analogous to the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test and the Drug Use Disorders Identification Test.MethodsGambling experts from 10 countries participated in an international two‐round Delphi (n = 61; n = 30), rating 30 items proposed for inclusion in the GDIT. Gambling researchers and clinicians from several countries participated in three consensus meetings (n = 10; n = 4; n = 3). User feedback was obtained from individuals with experience of problem gambling (n = 12) and from treatment‐seekers with Gambling Disorder (n = 8).ResultsTen items fulfilled Delphi consensus criteria for inclusion in the GDIT (M ≥ 7 on a scale of 1–9 in the second round). Item‐related issues were addressed, and four more items were added to conform to the Banff agreement recommendations, yielding a final draft version of the GDIT with 14 items in three domains: gambling behavior, gambling symptoms and negative consequences.ConclusionsThis study established preliminary construct and face validity for the GDIT.  相似文献

Classes of obsessive-compulsive features differing both quantitatively and qualitatively have been linked to gambling disorder. This secondary data analysis sought to extend this line of investigation to examine the extent to which previously reported latent obsessive-compulsive classes may relate to externalizing conditions in a sample of 1675 twin male veterans recruited and surveyed for studies of gambling behaviors/disorder. Using latent class analysis and multivariate regression, we found that participants who reported the highest levels of obsessive-compulsive features were more likely to meet criteria for cannabis abuse and dependence and antisocial personality disorder. When adjusting for co-occurring disorders, the relationship with antisocial personality disorder remained significant whereas those for cannabis use disorders did not. These results highlight the potential utility of considering obsessive-compulsive features within a transdiagnostic framework and suggest that specific externalizing disorders have important links to obsessive-compulsive features. Future research is needed to extend these findings to other samples.

BACKGROUND: Problem and pathological gambling are associated with many impairments in quality of life, including financial, family, legal, and social problems. Gambling disorders commonly co-occur with other psychiatric disorders, such as alcoholism and depression. Although these consequences and correlates have been reported, little is known about the health-related functional impairment associated with gambling. OBJECTIVE: To model differences in the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among non-problem gamblers, problem gamblers, and pathological gamblers after controlling for lifetime co-occurring substance use disorders, psychiatric disorders, sociodemographics, and genetic and family environmental influences. DESIGN: Cohort and co-twin studies. SETTING: Nationally distributed community sample. PATIENTS: Male twin members of the Vietnam Era Twin Registry: 53 pathological gamblers, 270 subclinical problem gamblers, and 1346 non-problem gamblers (controls). INTERVENTIONS: We obtained HRQoL data, via the 8-Item Short-Form Health Survey, from all participants. Data from a subset of twin pairs discordant for gambling behavior was used to control for genetic and family environmental effects on HRQoL and problem gambling.Main Outcome Measure Health-related quality of life. RESULTS: Results from adjusted logistic regression analyses suggest little difference across groups in the physical domains of the health survey; however, for each mental health domain, pathological gamblers had lower HRQoL scores than problem gamblers (P<.05), who in turn had lower scores than non-problem gamblers (P<.05). After controlling for genes and family environment, no significant differences existed between the non-problem gambling twins and their problem or pathological gambling brothers, but adjusted co-twin analyses resulted in statistically significant differences in 4 of 8 subscales. CONCLUSIONS: Pathological and problem gambling are associated with significant decrements in HRQoL. This association is partly explained by genetic and family environmental effects and by lifetime co-occurring substance use disorders. Implications for clinicians, health care utilization, and public health issues are discussed.  相似文献

Prevalence estimates of pathological gambling in New Jersey and Maryland   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
This survey of the gambling behavior of 1,750 adults in New Jersey and Maryland confirmed findings in New York State. The substantial differences between problem and pathological gamblers in the general population and those entering treatment programs have serious implications for prevention, outreach, and treatment efforts.  相似文献

Large, infiltrative cavernous hemangiomas of the distal colon were present in 3 children with the Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, 2 of whom are the subject of this report. The lesion is manifested clinically as intermittent rectal bleeding starting in the first 5 years of life. The radiographic features include (a) varicose lesions in the wall of the rectosigmoid, ranging from a network of distended submucosal veins to nodular defects, (b) narrowing of the rectum by the surrounding extramural portion of the hemangioma, and (c) phleboliths within the lesion. Inferior mesenteric angiography and sigmoidoscopy are useful for preoperative confirmation. The occurrence of visceral hemangiomas in the Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome and its relevant diagnostic and therapeutic implications are discussed.  相似文献
