A 20‐year‐old male presented with multiple subcutaneous nodules on the head, neck, chest and oral cavity. FNA and biopsy showed pigmented fungal hyphae diagnostic of multifocal phaeohyphomycosis, found to be Exophiala spinifera by molecular diagnostics. The presentation initially raised concern for disseminated disease and occult immunosuppression. However, the patient appeared to be immunocompetent and otherwise healthy. Upon further inquiry, the patient was in a motor vehicle accident 4 years before presentation; he was ejected into a vegetable field resulting in multiple open wounds. Multifocal phaeohyphomycosis usually indicates disseminated systemic disease from immunosuppression and carries a grave prognosis. 相似文献

Physeal changes of any aetiology in children are usually diagnosed once the deformity is clinically evident. Between January
2006 and June 2007, 15 children who suffered from acute osteoarticular infection around the knee joint were studied. They
were called up for follow-up six months after the onset of infection. All patients were evaluated by clinical and roentgenographic
examination before undergoing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study of both knees “with the unaffected knee serving as control”.
Abnormal findings in the physis, metaphysis and/or epiphysis on MRI were observed in five children. This group of five children
was compared with the other ten children for clinical presentation and course of disease. We believe that MRI is a useful
tool in the evaluation of growth plate insult in the early period following acute osteoarticular infection, and we can diagnose

Antibodies against the N-terminal (NT) but not the basic domain (BD), DNA binding regions of the largest subunit (S1) of RNA polymerase I (RNAPI) were detected in the sera of MRL-lpr/lpr lupus mice. Antibodies against both RNAPI(S1)-NT and -BD, as well as other systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) autoantigens (La, ribosomal P proteins and Sm/RNP) were produced by rabbits immunized with anti-DNA antibodies that had been affinity purified from SLE patients. Immunization of nonautoimmune mice (Balb/c) with RNAPI(S1)-NT, RNAPI(S1)-BD, or La in the form of GST fusion proteins, induced production of anti-double-stranded (ds) DNA and anti-Sm/RNP. GST-P1 did not induce an anti-dsDNA response in these mice. These results demonstrate that RNAPI(S1)-NT, RNAPI(S1)-BD and La can participate in an anti-autoantigen/anti-DNA antibody loop during an SLE-like autoimmune response. 相似文献

Several lines of evidence show that visual perception is altered at the locus of visual attention: detection is faster, performance better and spatial resolution increased. It is however not known whether attention can affect visual perception further away from its locus. In the present study, we specifically question whether and how visual attention influences spatial perception away from its locus, independently from any saccadic preparation. We use a landmark task in which subjects have to estimate the location of a bisection stimulus relative to two landmark stimuli 15° apart, while fixating one of them. This task is combined with a highly demanding discrimination task performed on one of the two landmarks. This allows us to test for the effect of spatial attention allocation on distance perception, as measured by the subject estimation of the landmarks midpoint. We show that the estimated midpoint is displaced towards the attentional locus, both when attention is instructed on the central landmark or on the peripheral landmark. These results suggest an overrepresentation of space around the attentional locus that can affect perception up to 8° away, and question the existence of an objective spatial representation. They are in line with reports of spatial distortion in hemineglect patients while they strikingly contrast with the spatial compression reported around the time of saccadic execution. 相似文献
