We measured vitreous and serum levels of pefloxacin after oral administration. Twenty patients with retinal detachments undergoing vitrectomy were recruited into this study. Each patient received 400 mg pefloxacin orally 1 to 12 hours before vitrectomy. Vitreous fluid (0.1 mL) was aspirated at surgery. Vitreous levels of pefloxacin were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography. Six hours after oral administration, an average level of 1.37 g/mL of pefloxacin was measured in the vitreous samples. These levels were well above the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for most organisms termed sensitive to pefloxacin. Intraoperative ultrasound has been using to achieve a proper resection strategy in patients undergoing a hepatic colorectal metastasectomy. This study aims to describe and reveal the place of stereotactic metastasectomy in nonpalpable colorectal liver metastases (CLM). A chart review was initiated for all patients underwent resection for CLM between 2006 and 2011. The data concerning perioperative data and intraoperative strategy were abstracted. Among the 58 patients, who underwent a resection for CLM, 4 (6.9 %) (all men, median age 65.5, range 49–72, years) necessitated a stereotactic metastasectomy. Preoperative evaluations showed 1 (n = 1), 2 (n = 2), or 3 (n = 1) lesions, and intraoperative ultrasound (IUS) found an additional lesion in a case. Stereotactic marking was performed for nonpalpable lesions located in segments IVA, II, and VI and at the junction of segments V and VI. The margins were negative for all lesions both resected with conventional and stereotactic techniques. The examinations of the stereotactic resection materials revealed metastatic adenocarcinoma (patients n = 2), focal nodular hyperplasia (n = 1), and abnormal benign liver histology probably induced by chemotherapy (n = 1). The median (range) operation and hospitalization periods were 217.5 (150–310) minutes and 5.5 (2–9) days. No complications were observed except biliary fistula in a case, which spontaneously disappeared within 2 weeks. A patient died due to systemic disease including hepatic metastases 33 months after the liver surgery. Stereotactic metastasectomy may be feasible for the removal of nonpalpable CLM. Further evaluations are necessitated to understand the accurate place of this novel technique. 相似文献

Cancer is a major worldwide health problem and one of the leading causes of death either in developed or developing countries. Plant extracts and derivatives have always been used for various disease treatments and many anticancer agents issued from plants and vegetables are clinically recognized and used all over the world. Lycium europaeum (Solanaceae) also called “wolfberry” was known since ancient times in the Mediterranean area as a medicinal plant and used in several traditional remedies. The Lycium species capacity of reducing the incidence of cancer and also of halting or reserving the growth of cancer was reported by traditional healers. In this study, the antiproliferative capacity, protective properties, and antioxidant activity of the hydro-alcoholic fruit extract of Lycium europaeum were investigated. Results showed that Lycium extract exhibits the ability to reduce cancer cell viability, inhibits proliferation, and induces apoptosis in A549 human lung cancer cells and PC12 rat adrenal medulla cancer cells, in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. Cytotoxic effect on normal rat cerebellum granule cells was assessed to be nonsignificant. Results also showed that Lycium fruit extract protected lipids, proteins, and DNA against oxidative stress damages induced by H2O2 via scavenging reactive oxygen species. 相似文献

Background: Cytokines are essential mediators of immune response. Chronic renal failure patients suffer from chronic inflammation that results from factors such as impaired renal function, accumulation of uremic toxins and bio incompatibility of dialyzer membranes. These patients are also at increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. We have evaluated cytokines, adipocytokines and inflammatory markers in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis (HD) and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD).Material and methods: We have determined serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), leptin and ghrelin levels of chronic renal failure patients treated with either HD (n?=?20) or CAPD (n?=?20). TNF-α, IL-6, ghrelin and leptin measurements were performed by commercially available kits based on enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. hsCRP levels were determined by turbidimetric methods.Results: Serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels of patients on HD were significantly higher than those of the ones on CAPD (p?<?0.05). Ghrelin, leptin and hsCRP concentrations were similar in both groups.Conclusions: We can conclude that cytokine production is more obvious in HD process. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: As the endothelium and inflammatory cells play a crucial role in the development of collaterals after a sudden or slowly progressing stenosis of coronary arteries, the levels of soluble endothelial adhesion molecules (CAMs) including vascular cell adhesion molecule (VCAM-1) intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and E-selectin were compared between patients with poor coronary collaterals and patients with well-developed collaterals. METHODS: In the study, 97 non-diabetic subjects with single-vessel disease were included. Collateral supply to the stenotic coronary artery was determined by angiographic grading system of 0-3 (Rentrop et al. J Am Coll Cardiol 1985; 5:587-592). Serum levels of adhesion molecules were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: Patients were divided into two groups according to the collateral degree (group A: 50 patients with grade 0 and 1; group B: 47 patients with grade 2 and 3 collaterals). The groups were well matched with respect to baseline clinical and angiographic characteristics. Levels of soluble VCAM-1 (mean+/-SEM; 875+/-26.6 versus 742.7+/-35.1 ng/ml; P=0.004), ICAM-1 (322.4+/-12.4 versus 269.4+/-13.3 ng/ml; P=0.005), and E-selectin (43.6+/-2.6 versus 33+/-2.4 ng/ml; P=0.004) were found to be significantly higher in group A in comparison with group B. In addition, when patients were divided into four groups according to the collateral degree, patients with grade 0 collaterals had the highest values and those with grade 3 collaterals had the lowest values for all these molecules. CONCLUSIONS: We concluded that poor collateral circulation is associated with increased levels of soluble CAMs in patients with obstructive coronary artery disease. However, further studies are needed to elucidate the exact role of these inflammatory markers in the setting of poor collateral circulation. 相似文献

Objective: To evaluate the effect of dopamine on thyroid hormone tests and prolactin (PRL) and to assess requirement for L-thyroxin (LT4).Methods: The infants (n?=?102) were divided into three groups (Group 1; received no dopamine, Group 2 received ≤25?mg/kg cumulative dose and Group 3; received >25?mg/kg cumulative dose). Blood samples were taken at 6–8 days (timepoint 1), 13–15 days (timepoint 2), and 4–6 weeks of life (timepoint 3).Results: Respiratory distress syndrome was higher in group 2 and 3. Patnet ductus arteriosus was higher in group 3 than in groups 1 and 2. Duration and cumulative dose in group 3 were higher than group 2. There was no difference between thyroid hormones that were taken after stopping infusion at timepoint 3 among all groups. No therapy with LT4 was needed. PRL levels were higher at timepoint 1 in group 1 than compared to group 2 and 3 (p?0.05), and no difference between group 2 and 3 (p?>?0.05). This difference was disappeared at following timepoints.Conclusions: The release of TSH, FT3, FT4 and PRL were not inhibited and prophylactic thyroid hormone treatment was not required in VLBW infants receiving dopamine infusions. 相似文献

Microalgae are photosynthetic organisms that produce valuable metabolites as a result of being constantly exposed to stress conditions such as high or low temperature, high salinity, osmotic pressure, photo-oxidation, and ultraviolet radiation. These valuable metabolites drew attention from cosmetic and cosmeceutical industries to be used in anti-aging, sunscreen, and skin whitening products. Microalgal secondary metabolites can have anti-blemish or anti-microbial effect; can also repair and heal skin, protect skin from UV damage, and prevent inflammation. Existing cosmetic products can be replaced by microalgae derived cosmetic products which are environment-friendly and safe which make them publicly important since people want to have products as natural as possible. Currently some microalgal derived products are commercially available and biotechnology of microalgae is getting more and more developed every day which will be resulted in more commercial products in short period of time.
