Rationale and Objectives. The feasibility of using gadolinium contrast medium for computed tomography angiography (CTA) in multi-detector row computed tomography and the effect of contrast medium dilution was investigated.Materials and Methods. Three pigs were each scanned in multiple sessions with injections of non-dilute and dilute contrast medium at a dose of 0.3 mmol/kg body weight. Non-spiral dynamic scanning at a fixed mid-abdominal aortic level and thoracoabdominal CTA were performed.Results. The magnitude of peak aortic enhancement was not significantly different between dilute and non-dilute contrast medium injections (P = .88), but the former showed earlier enhancement (mean of 2.3 seconds sooner, P < .01) than the latter. CT angiography with gadolinium contrast medium showed much lower enhancement than iodine contrast medium, but small vessels were readily identifiable.Conclusion. Gadolinium contrast medium combined with multi-detector row computed tomography may provide clinically useful CTA. Dilution of contrast medium shortens the enhancement time but has little effect on the magnitude.  相似文献

The National Lung Screening Trial is evaluating the effectiveness of low-dose spiral CT and conventional chest X-ray as screening tests for persons who are at high risk for developing lung cancer. This multicenter trial requires quality assurance (QA) for the image quality and technical parameters of the scans. The electronic system described here helps manage the QA process. The system includes a workstation at each screening center that de-identifies the data, a DICOM storage service at the QA Coordinating Center, and Web-based systems for presenting images and QA evaluation forms to the QA radiologists. Quality assurance data are collated and analyzed by an independent statistical organization. Perfluorinated gases, particularly C2F6, are potentially suitable alternatives to hyperpolarized noble gases for pulmonary airspace spin density and diffusion MRI. This work focuses mainly on 19F imaging of C2F6 gas in healthy and emphysematous explanted lungs, avoiding regulatory issues of human in vivo measurements. Three-dimensional gradient echo and spin echo spin density images of human lungs can be made in 10 s with adequate signal-to-noise, demonstrating the feasibility for breathing dynamics to be captured during a succession of short breath holds. As expected, the spin echo images have much smaller susceptibility artifacts than the gradient echo images. 19F and 3He images of the same lungs are compared. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of C2F6 is sensitive to restrictions imposed by the lung microstructure: the average ADC is measured to be 0.018 cm2/s in healthy lungs versus 0.031 cm2/s in emphysematous lungs at a diffusion time Delta=2.2 ms. The low free diffusivity of pure C2F6 (D0=0.033 cm2/s) places it in a regime where the ADC measurement allows the surface-to-volume ratio to be determined in each voxel, a potentially valuable quantitative characterization of regional lung tissue destruction in emphysema.  相似文献

The CT Image Library (CTIL) of the Lung Screening Study (LSS) network of the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) consists of up to three annual screens using CT imaging from each of 17,308 participants with a significant history of smoking but no evidence of cancer at trial enrollment (Fall 2002-Spring 2004). Screens performed at numerous medical centers associated with 10 LSS-NLST screening centers are deidentified of protected health information and delivered to the CTIL via DVD, external hard disk, or Internet/Virtual Private Network transmission. The collection will be completed in late 2006. The CTIL is of potential interest to clinical researchers and software developers of nodule detection algorithms. Its attractiveness lies in its very specific, well-defined patient population, scanned via a common CT protocol, and in its collection of evenly spaced serial screens. In this work, we describe the technical details of the CTIL collection process from screening center retrieval through library storage.  相似文献

MR imaging of diffusion of (3)He gas in healthy and diseased lungs.   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Hyperpolarized (3)He gas MRI was used to form maps of the effective diffusivity of gas in human lungs. Images of diffusion as well as spin density are presented from a study of 11 healthy volunteers and 5 patients with severe emphysema. The effective rate of diffusion, D(e), of the gas is reduced by the alveolar walls; tissue destruction in emphysema is hypothesized to result in larger D(e). Indeed, the mean value of D(e) in the emphysematous lungs is found here to be about 2.5 times that of healthy lungs, although still smaller than the unrestricted diffusivity of (3)He in free air. Histograms of D(e) values across coronal slices are presented. The results are discussed in terms of spatial variations, variations among individuals, healthy and diseased, and variations due to changes in lung volume. Magn Reson Med 44:174-179, 2000.  相似文献
