Study of candida and Trichomonas vaginalis in Leucorrhoea

Of 150 clinically suspected cases of leucorrhoea, 44 cases (29.33%) showed growth of candida and 30 cases (20%) of trichomonas, by wet preparation. Among the candida species the most frequent isolate was C albicans (56.8%), followed by C tropicalis (20.4%), C krusei (11.4%), C stellatoidea (9.1%) and C parapsilosis (2.3%). The higher incidence was found among the pregnant women than among non-pregnant women. Among pregnant women multipara in third trimester showed higher incidence of candida and trichomonas infection.

With the advent of the internet, people actively express their opinions about products, services, events, political parties, etc., in social media, blogs, and website comments. The amount of research work on sentiment analysis is growing explosively. However, the majority of research efforts are devoted to English language data, while a great share of information is available in other languages. We present a state-of-the-art review on multilingual sentiment analysis. More importantly, we compare our own implementation of existing state-of-the-art approaches on common data. Precision observed in our experiments is typically lower than that reported by the original authors, which we attribute to lack of detail in the original presentation of those approaches. Thus, we compare the existing works by what they really offer to the reader, including whether they allow for accurate implementation and for reliable reproduction of the reported results.

Characterization of a radiolabeled small molecule targeting leukocyte function-associated antigen-1 expression in lymphoma and leukemia

OBJECTIVE: Leukocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) is constitutively expressed on leukocytes, including overexpression on lymphomas and leukemias. We have developed a derivative of BIRT 377, an allosteric inhibitor of LFA-1, which may be chemically tagged without affecting binding. In this study, we modified this derivative, (R)-1-(4-aminobutyl)-5-(4-bromobenzyl)-3-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)-5-methylimidazolidine- 2,4-dione (butylamino-NorBIRT), and demonstrated its potential as a noninvasive imaging agent. METHODS: Specific binding of fluorescein-labeled butylamino-NorBIRT to both human and murine cells was demonstrated using equilibrium binding and dissociation techniques. A radiometal, lutetium-177 (Lu-177), was incorporated into the butylamino-NorBIRT through 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-N,N',N",N'- tetraacetic acid (DOTA) as a chelator. RESULTS: Equilibrium-binding experiments demonstrated that fluorescein- labeled butylamino-NorBIRT specifically binds human and murine LFA-1 with affinity constants of 135 and 186 nM, respectively. Dissociation kinetic experiments demonstrated an off-rate of 0.168/second(1) on murine cells, consistent with the observed affinity constant. Lutetium-177 was used for labeling, with > or =99.99% radiochemical purity and incorporation yield. This radiolabeled derivative exhibited high stability in fetal bovine serum (FBS) at 37 degrees C over 72 hours. (177)Lu-DOTA-butylamino-NorBIRT showed a binding affinity of 235 nM to human LFA-1 for equilibrium binding and competitive binding experiments. CONCLUSIONS: The radiolabeled DOTA-butylamino-NorBIRT may have potential as a noninvasive imaging or therapeutic agent in both human and mouse models.     

Adult respiratory distress syndrome after radical neck dissection

The clinical management of an unusual case of postoperative ARDS is reported. A few hours following neck surgery and septic insult, the patient developed unexpected ARDS. Aetiologic and supportive treatment were successfully instituted and after 72 hours of intensive therapy, the patient’s clinical status improved. The very short time lapse between the septic insult and appearance of ARDS is emphasized. A brief literature review on aetiology, diagnosis and therapy of sepsis, as well as some pertinent aspects concerning the pathogenesis of ARDS and its linkage to sepsis are presented. La prise en charge clinique d’un cas inhabituel d’ARDS postopératoire est décrit. Quelques heures après une chirurgie du cou et une plaie septique, le patient a développé un ARDS imprévu. Une thérapeutique étiologique et curative fut mise en oeuvre et après 72 heures de soins intensifs, l’état du patient s’améliora. Il faut insister sur le délai très bref entre la plaie septique et l’apparition de l’ARDS. Une brève revue de la littérature sur l’étiologie, le diagnostic et le traitement du sepsis, ainsi que quelques points pertinents concernant la pathogénie de l’ARDS et ses rapports à un sepsis sont présentés.
