An influenza C virus was isolated from a Japanese traveler who had visited Malaysia in April 1999. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the genome composition of this virus was distinct from that of any other strain isolated in Japan. We report on a 6-year-old girl with Ullrich-Turner syndrome and anorexia nervosa. The diagnosis was made at 6 years and she became anorectic at 14 years. She had been treated with low doses of estrogen just before the onset of anorexia. In spite of remarkable decrease in food intake, her body weight was in the normal range compared to standard weight. Rohrer indices were also normal, probably due to abnormal habitus in individuals with the syndrome. The pathogenetic relationship between this disorder and the hormone treatment in the onset of anorexia nervosa is discussed. 相似文献

Vascular Ehlers–Danlos syndrome (vEDS) is a hereditary connective tissue disorder (HCTD) characterized by arterial dissection/aneurysm/rupture, sigmoid colon rupture, or uterine rupture. Diagnosis is confirmed by detecting heterozygous variants in COL3A1. This is the largest Asian case series and the first to apply an amplification-based next-generation sequencing through custom panels of causative genes for HCTDs, including a specific method of evaluating copy number variations. Among 429 patients with suspected HCTDs analyzed, 101 were suspected to have vEDS, and 33 of them (32.4%) were found to have COL3A1 variants. Two patients with a clinical diagnosis of Loeys–Dietz syndrome and/or familial thoracic aortic aneurysm and dissection were also found to have COL3A1 variants. Twenty cases (57.1%) had missense variants leading to glycine (Gly) substitutions in the triple helical domain, one (2.9%) had a missense variant leading to non-Gly substitution in this domain, eight (22.9%) had splice site alterations, three (8.6%) had nonsense variants, two (5.7%) had in-frame deletions, and one (2.9%) had a multi-exon deletion, including two deceased patients analyzed with formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded samples. This is a clinically useful system to detect a wide spectrum of variants from various types of samples. 相似文献

To evaluate the effect of interferon-γ-genetransduced cells, DS mice were inoculated into their footpads with syngeneic mammary
adenocarcinoma SC42 admixed with interferon-γ producing mammary adenocarcinoma SC115Kγ, which had been established by an interferon-γ-gene
transduction in another syngeneic mammary adenocarcinoma SC115 using retroviral vectors. These mice rejected both tumor cells
and developed resistance to subsequent challenges with either SC115 or SC42 cells inoculated into their opposite posterior
footpads. These results thus indicate that systemic immunological memory to each of the independent tumor cell lines developed
in these mice. Although the SC42 cells admixed with irradiated SC115Kγ cells were rejected by these mice, the SC42 cells admixed
with irradiated SC115neoR, in which the neo-gene had been transduced, were observed to proliferate. Tumor rejection was reversed
by an in vivo administration of anti-interferon-γ antibody, thus suggesting that locally produced interferon-γ plays an important
role in tumor elimination and immunological memory induction. In conclusion, interferon-γ-gene-transduced tumor cells are

Between November and December 1993 a questionnaire survey concerning the lifestyle and health status was performed on 1.314 elementary school children living in Tokyo and its suburbs. In this study the following items were included: 1) sleeping habits, 2) physical activity, 3) playing habits, 4) eating habits, 5) attending a "juku", private cram school to prepare children for entrance examinations, 6) commuting hours, 7) 20 subjective symptoms regarding health, and so on. The results were as follows: 1. 61.9% of students were attending a "juku". 2. The number of hours of sleep, playing after school and watching TV decreased with the frequency of attending a "juku". The students who were attending "juku" more than 3 times a week had the shortest number of those hours, and the students who did not attend any "juku" had the longest of those hours. 3. To determine health status, 20 subjective symptoms were scored. The average number of subjective symptoms was 5.0. That of the students who were attending "juku" more than 3 times a week was 5.5. 4. Of the 20 subjective symptoms, 7 items were correlated to the frequency of attending "juku". To remove the effect of other factors, multiple logistic regression analysis was applied to determine correlation of 7 subjective items and other factors including attending "juku". As a result attending "juku" more than three times a week were associated with the two symptoms of "sleepy" and "eye fatigue". 相似文献

Here, we show that AU-1, spirostanol saponin isolated from Agavaceae plants, causes a transient increase in cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor (CDKI) p21/Cip1 through the upregulation of miRNAs, miR-34 and miR-21. AU-1 stimulated p21/Cip1 expression without exerting cytotoxicity against different types of carcinoma cell lines. In renal adenocarcinoma ACHN cells, AU-1 transiently elevated the expression level of p21/Cip1 protein without marked increases in p21/Cip1 mRNA levels. Rapid and transient increases in miR-34 and miR-21, both of which are known to upregulate p21/Cip1, were observed in AU-1-treated cells. Inhibitor for miR-34 and for miR-21 significantly blocked the AU-1-caused increase in p21/Cip1, indicating that elevation of p21/Cip1 protein by AU-1 is dependent on these microRNAs. We further clarified that NAD-dependent deacetylase SIRT1, a direct target of miR-34, is decreased by the treatment with AU-1. Furthermore, we found that SIRT1-knockdown increases p21/Cip1 protein levels in an miR-21-dependent manner. On the other hand, ectopic expression of p21/Cip1 resulted in the lowered expression of miR-34 and miR-21, suggesting that reciprocal regulation exists between p21/Cip1 and these miRNAs. We propose that the following feedback network composed of miR-34/SIRT1/miR-21/p21 is triggered by the treatment with AU-1: in cells treated with AU-1, transient elevation of miR-34 leads to the downregulation of SIRT1, thereby miR-21 is freed from SIRT1-dependent suppression. Recently, the right gastroepiploic artery (RGEA) has been used in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) as an alternative arterial graft. Because of the improvement of prognosis after CABG, malignant diseases are more common in older patients. However, there is a serious problem in patients with gastric cancer after CABG with RGEA graft. In these patients, an interruption of coronary blood supply through the RGEA may cause a life-threatening myocardial ischemia. Therefore, an appropriate strategy is very important to avoid risk while retaining the curability of the operation. We herein describe a 76-year-old Japanese man with advanced gastric cancer who underwent CABG using the RGEA. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed #6 lymph nodes (sub-pyloric lymph nodes) metastases surrounding the RGEA. We concluded that curative resection was impossible while preserving the RGEA and started combination chemotherapy using S-1 and cisplatin. After 2 courses of that, #6 lymph nodes were reduced extremely. Thereafter the patient underwent distal gastrectomy with regional lymph node dissection around the RGEA without excision of the RGEA. Histologically, there were no metastases in #6 lymph nodes.
