In 82 CHD male patients aged 35-54 years with well-preserved working capacity (threshold load, 600-750 kgm/min) who had underwent bicycle ergometer test, the time course of changes in the major hemodynamic parameters was found to be significantly similar to that of healthy individuals. The cases who stopped performing bicycle ergometer tests because of anginal attacks, and ST segment depression or either showed a more significant elevation in systolic and diastolic blood pressure at the maximum load rate and lower increase in heart rate than in healthy subjects, which may be regarded as a compensatory mechanism that prevents a further decrease in coronary flow. Diminished increase in stroke index and cardiac index suggests reduced myocardial contractility. 相似文献

Subjects were trained to discriminate three figures presented in the left field of vision and three other figures presented in the right field of vision. In these conditions, the two hemispheres usually show identical learning to discriminate the sets of stimuli because the hemispheres in healthy humans can exchange information. In the present study, training was performed in conditions in which, during presentation of stimuli, the opposite visual hemifield was covered by a mask. After training, the recognition of all six figures was compared by presenting them to the left and right visual fields. Each hemisphere recognized figures presented to the cognate hemifield but completely or very nearly failed to recognize figures learned by the other hemisphere. The mask would thus appear to block (completely or partially) the transmission of information from one hemisphere to the other. Most of the available data on the cytoarchitecture of the cerebral cortex in mammals rely on Nissl, Golgi, and myelin stains and few studies have explored the differential morphologic and neurochemical phenotypes of neuronal populations. In addition, the majority of studies addressing the distribution and morphology of identified neuronal subtypes have been performed in common laboratory animals such as the rat, mouse, cat, and macaque monkey, as well as in postmortem analyses in humans. Several neuronal markers, such as neurotransmitters or structural proteins, display a restricted cellular distribution in the mammalian brain, and recently, certain cytoskeletal proteins and calcium-binding proteins have emerged as reliable markers for morphologically distinct subpopulations of neurons in a large number of mammalian species. In this article, we review the morphologic characteristics and distribution of three calcium-binding proteins, parvalbumin, calbindin, and calretinin, and of the neurofilament protein triplet, a component of the neuronal cytoskeleton, to provide an overview of the presence and cellular typology of these proteins in the neocortex of various mammalian taxa. Considering the remarkable diversity in gross morphological patterns and neuronal organization that occurred during the evolution of mammalian neocortex, the distribution of these neurochemical markers may help define taxon-specific patterns. In turn, such patterns can be used as reliable phylogenetic traits to assess the degree to which neurochemical specialization of neurons, as well as their regional and laminar distribution in the neocortex, represent derived or ancestral features, and differ in certain taxa from the laboratory species that are most commonly studied. 相似文献

Background: Letter-by-letter readers identify each letter of the word they are reading serially in left to right order before recognising the word. When their letter naming is also impaired, letter-by-letter reading is inaccurate and can render even single word reading very poor. Tactile and/or kinaesthetic strategies have been reported to improve reading in these patients, but only under certain conditions or for a limited set of stimuli. Aims: The primary aim of the current study was to determine whether a tactile/kinaesthetic treatment could significantly improve reading specifically under normal reading conditions, i.e., reading untrained words presented in free vision and read without overt use of the strategy. Methods & Procedures: Three chronic letter-by-letter readers participated in a tactile/kinaesthetic treatment aimed at first improving letter-naming accuracy (phase 1) and then letter-by-letter reading speed (phase 2). In a multiple case series design, accuracy and speed of reading untrained words without overt use of the trained tactile/kinaesthetic strategy was assessed before phase 1, after phase 1, and again after phase 2. Outcomes & Results: All three patients significantly improved both their speed and accuracy in reading untrained words without overt use of the trained tactile/kinaesthetic strategy. All three patients required the additional practice in phase 2 to achieve significant improvement. Treatment did not target sentence-level reading, yet two of the three patients became so adept that they could read entire sentences. Conclusions: This study replicates previous findings on the efficacy of tactile/kinaesthetic treatment for letter-by-letter readers with poor letter naming. It further demonstrates that this treatment can alter cognitive processing such that words never specifically trained can be read in free vision without overtly using the trained strategy. The data suggest that an important element in achieving this level of generalisation is continuing training beyond the point of initial mastery (i.e., accurate letter naming). 相似文献

Innate immunity is a rapid series of reactions to pathogens, cell injuries and toxic proteins. A key component of this natural response is the production of inflammatory mediators by resident microglia and infiltrating macrophages. There is accumulating evidence that inflammation contributes to acute injuries and more chronic CNS diseases, though other studies have shown that inhibition of microglia is, in contrast, associated with more damages or less repair. The controversies regarding the neuroprotective and neurodegenerative properties of microglia may depend on the experimental approaches. Neurotoxic substances are frequently used to produce animal models of acute injuries or diseases and they may activate microglia either directly or indirectly by their ability to cause neuronal death and demyelination. Whether microglia and the immune response play a direct role in such processes still remains an open question. On the other hand, there are data supporting the role of resident microglia and those derived from the bone marrow in the stimulation of myelin repair, removal of toxic proteins from the CNS and the prevention of neurodegeneration in chronic brain diseases. The ability of glucocorticoids to provide a negative feedback on nuclear factor kappa B pathways in microglia may be a determinant mechanism underlying the ultimate fate of the inflammatory response in the CNS. This review presents new concepts regarding the neuroprotective role of the innate immune response in the brain and how microglia can be directed to improve recovery after injuries and prevent/delay neurodegeneration. 相似文献
