Fetal growth in hypertensive women]

The Authors examine the correlation between hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and fetal growth. The results of a study of 342 pregnancies, confirm a significant correlation between hypertension and fetal growth retardation. These findings, so evident in moderate and severe hypertension, have also been confirmed in cases of mild hypertension. The medical treatment also in the pregnancies with mild hypertension, and a larger utilisation of operative deliveries, determined a decrease in perinatal mortality and morbidity.

The advantages of the new, safer, but more expensive iodinated contrast agents are discussed, and opinions on which patient groups should receive the agents are presented.

The influence of lunar phases on the frequency of deliveries

Common tradition encourages the belief that deliveries take place more frequently during some phases than others. It is known that multiple factors (also medical) may influence birth timing postponing or anticipating it. To verify the veracity of this belief, we studied the frequency of home deliveries of Maputo (Mozambique), without any medical assistance according to lunar cycle. A study of 5226 births in 37 lunar cycles didn't show a significative increase of deliveries during specific lunar phases and week days. The same result has been achieved expanding the examination period to 2 days before and after lunar phase. Therefore, on the basis of this study, the hypothesis that lunar phase may influence the process of birth is disproved.     

Pulmonary artery catheterization: a modified technique

A modified technique for catheterization of the pulmonary artery was developed. It involves the passage of a tapered, movable-core, J-tipped guide wire across the right ventricle into the pulmonary artery followed by the advancement of a straightened Grollman pigtail catheter. The technique was successful in 34 of 34 pulmonary artery catheterizations. The method avoids prolonged catheter manipulation within the right ventricle. In addition, since the catheter does not cross the tricuspid valve until the guide wire has been advanced, the occasional complication of the pigtail "hooking" on a tricuspid valve leaflet or chordae tendineae during catheter withdrawal and manipulation is prevented.     

Lung injury induced by antibody fragments to angiotensin-converting enzyme.

Rabbits given goat anti-rabbit angiotensin-converting enzyme antibodies or derived antibody fragments develop rapidly fatal pulmonary edema. Endothelial cell injury is manifested by bleb formation and the disintegration of cell membranes. Platelets are found along the injured endothelium and leukocytes block capillary lumens. The pathologic features are similar when immune IgG, F(ab')2, or Fab are given. In vitro studies of complement activation show that solubilized, purified angiotensin-converting enzyme alone activates C1, with consumption of C4 and C3. Addition of immune IgG plus converting enzyme enhances this activation. F(ab')2 plus enzyme enhances only C3 consumption, while Fab with enzyme produces no additional complement utilization. Thus, while complement activation may be involved in the pathogenesis of injury induced by IgG or F(ab')2, the mechanism of Fab-induced endothelial injury remains unclear.     

乳腺管状小叶癌

乳腺管状小叶癌（Tubulolobular carcinoma，TLC）最初是被作为小叶癌的管状变型。作者总结了27例TLC的组织学、免疫表型和临床特征，并与纯小管癌和经典型小叶癌进行了比较。此组患者年龄43-79岁（中位年龄60岁）。1例双侧乳腺受累，5例病变为多灶性。肿瘤直径0．5-2．5cm，色灰褐，质硬。组织学观察：TLC的肿瘤细胞形成管状和条索状两种结构模式并相互混杂，且两者比例相当（统称为管状小叶模式）。
