Thirty-five plants are listed, which are used by traditional healers in the central and southern parts of Somalia. For each species are listed: the botanical name with synonyms, collection number, vernacular name, medicinal use, preparation of remedy and dosage. To determine the effect of D-glucose on the beta-cell Na+/K+ pump, 86Rb+ influx was studied in isolated, -cell-rich islets of Ume?-ob/ob mice in the absence or presence of 1mM ouabain. D-glucose (20mM) stimulated the ouabain-sensitive portion of 86Rb+ influx by 65%, whereas the ouabain-resistant portion was inhibited by 48%. The Na+/K+ ATPase activity in homogenates of islets of Ume?-ob/ob mice or normal mice was determined to search for direct effects of D-glucose. Thus, ouabain-sensitive ATP hydrolysis in islet homogenates was measured in the presence of different D-glucose concentrations. No effect of D-glucose (3-20mM) was observed in either ob/ob or normal islets at the optimal Na+/K+ ratio for the enzyme (135mM Na+ and 20mM K+). Neither D-glucose (3-20mM) nor L-glucose or 3-O-methyl-D-glucose (20mM) affected the enzyme activity at a high Na+/K+ ratio (175 mM Na+ and 0.7 mM K+). Diphenylhydantoin (150 microM) decreased the enzyme activity at optimal Na+/K+ ratio, whereas 50 microM of the drug had no effect. The results suggest that D-glucose induces a net stimulation the Na+/K+ pump of beta-cells in intact islets and that D-glucose does not exert any direct effect on the Na+/K+ ATPase activity.  相似文献

Tuberculosis (TB) is a possible complication of solid organ and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The identification of candidates for preventive chemotherapy is an effective intervention to protect transplant recipients with latent infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis from progressing to active disease. The best available proxy for diagnosing latent infection with M. tuberculosis is the identification of an adaptive immune response by the tuberculin skin test or an interferon-γ based ex vivo assay. Risk assessment in transplant recipients for the development of TB depends on, among other factors, the locally expected underlying prevalence of infection with M. tuberculosis in the target population. In areas of high prevalence, preventive chemotherapy for all transplant recipients may be justified without immunodiagnostic testing while in areas of medium and low prevalence, preventive chemotherapy should only be offered to candidates with positive M. tuberculosis-specific immune responses. The diagnosis of TB in transplant recipients can be challenging. Treatment of TB is often difficult due to substantial interactions between anti-TB drugs and immunosuppressive medications. This management guideline summarises current knowledge on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of TB related to solid organ and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and provides an expert consensus on questions where scientific evidence is still lacking.  相似文献

In this study, a novel Mn(iii)–Schiff base complex was synthesized and characterized. The structure of this complex was determined to be a deformed octahedral coordination sphere by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The Mn(iii)–Schiff base complex was supported on silica-coated iron magnetic nanoparticles via axial coordination by one-step complex anchoring to produce a heterogenized nanocatalyst. After this, the complex was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). Moreover, atomic absorption spectroscopy was used to determine the amount of the loaded metal. The heterogenized nanocatalyst effectively catalyzed the oxidation of a broad range of sulfides and alkenes with H2O2 in the presence of a glassy carbon electrode, applying voltage to the reaction mixture. The results showed that the application of a potential to the reaction mixture could significantly decrease the reaction time when compared with the case of similar chemical oxidation reactions. In addition, an excellent value of turnover frequency (17 750 h−1) was achieved for the electrochemical oxidation of styrene. Moreover, the nanocatalyst showed good recoverability without significant loss of its activity within six successive runs in the electrochemical oxidation of methyl phenyl sulfide and cyclooctene. The electrochemical properties and stability of Fe3O4@SiO2-[MnL(OAc)] were investigated by cyclic voltammetry measurements and chronoamperometry technique.

Background

To introduce the role of fibrin sealant and preputial acellular matrix (PAM) as a new source of inert collagen matrix for urethral reconstruction.

Methods

A ventral urethral segmental defect was created in 24 male rabbits divided into four groups. In group 1 (G1), urethrotomy was closed in layers. In group 2 (G2), closure was followed by applying fibrin sealant. In groups 3 (G3) and 4 (G4), urethroplasty was performed with a patch graft of PAM, and in G4, fibrin sealant was also applied. Serial urethrography was performed before and after the operation. Then, the animals were euthanized, and their urethra was excised 1, 3, and 9 months postoperatively for further electron microscopic examination, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) technique, and immunohistochemical (IHC) staining with CD34, CD31, desmin, SMA, and α-actin.

Results

In G1 and G2, the fistula repair failed in all the time points. In G3 and G4, serial urethrography confirmed the maintenance of a wide urethral caliber without signs of strictures or extravasations. Satisfactory vascularity was observed in G3 and G4 during the whole study, which was more significant in G4 after 9 months of follow-up. The presence of a complete transitional cell layer was confirmed over the graft in G3 and G4 in all time points. IHC staining confirmed the effectiveness of fistula repair in G3 and G4, 3 months postoperatively.

Conclusion

This rabbit model showed that PAM combined with fibrin sealant may herald a reliable option for repairing segmental urethral defects.  相似文献

In the present investigation, the non-recrystallization temperature (TNR) of niobium-microalloyed steel is determined to plan rolling schedules for obtaining the desired properties of steel. The value of TNR is based on both alloying elements and deformation parameters. In the literature, TNR equations have been developed and utilized. However, each equation has certain limitations which constrain its applicability. This study was completed using laboratory-grade low-carbon Nb-microalloyed steels designed to meet the API X-70 specification. Nb- microalloyed steel is processed by the melting and casting process, and the composition is found by optical emission spectroscopy (OES). Multiple-hit deformation tests were carried out on a Gleeble® 3500 system in the standard pocket-jaw configuration to determine TNR. Cuboidal specimens (10 (L) × 20 (W) × 20 (T) mm3) were taken for compression test (multiple-hit deformation tests) in gleeble. Microstructure evolutions were carried out by using OM (optical microscopy) and SEM (scanning electron microscopy). The value of TNR determined for 0.1 wt.% niobium bearing microalloyed steel is ~ 951 °C. Nb- microalloyed steel rolled at TNR produce partially recrystallized grain with ferrite nucleation. Hence, to verify the TNR value, a rolling process is applied with the finishing rolling temperature near TNR (~951 °C). The microstructure is also revealed in the pancake shape, which confirms TNR.  相似文献

Summary The case of a 41/2-year-old girl with disseminated neuroblastoma and concomitant osteomyelitis is reported. Neuroblastoma was detected in the vertebral column, the right suprarenal fossa, the left side of cranium and in bone marrow aspirates. Osteomyelitis was present in the left femur and was due to Salmonella tennessee. For the first time in the literature the two lesions were demonstrated by means of simultaneous 131I-MIBG and 99mTc-DPD scintigraphy. The diagnoses were proved by direct histological and microbiological studies.  相似文献

We speculate that biliary sphincter of Oddi dysfunction type I and symptomatic migrating biliary microlithiasis may be part of the same disease process. A retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data was carried out using procedure and diagnosis codes during the period of 1997–2006. Seventeen patients (age 51 ± 17; 94% women) with prior cholecystectomy, right upper quadrant/epigastric abdominal pain, elevated liver enzymes, dilated biliary ducts seen on ultrasound/CT scan were identified. The patients underwent ERCP with biliary endoscopic sphincterotomy. Nine (53%) had biliary microlithiasis and eight (47%) had biliary sphincter of Oddi dysfunction type I. They were followed for 2–108 weeks (median 9 weeks). 6/8 (75%) in biliary sphincter of Oddi dysfunction type I and 6/9 (67%) in biliary microlithiasis group had resolution of abdominal pain (P = 1.00). We conclude that the clinical improvement with biliary sphincterotomy for biliary sphincter of Oddi dysfunction type I versus occult biliary microlithiasis was not significantly different.  相似文献

SP1 levels of 150 amniotic fluid samples from 70 healthy gravidae and 63 gravidae suffering from different disturbances of pregnancy obtained between gestational weeks 16 and 42 have been estimated by means of the simple radial immunodiffusion method. For this end amniotic fluid has been tenfold concentrated by lyophilisation. SP1 concentrations increase gradually during pregnancy, but individual differences are wide especially at the end of pregnancy. The regression line ascends. In the average, the SP1 concentration of amniotic fluid is 1 per cent of the serum values. Cases of rhesus isoimmunization and EPH-gestosis are often correlated with high amniotic fluid levels of SP1. However, the diagnostic importance is restricted by a considerable overlap of the confidence intervals. The significance of amniotic fluid SP1 as an additional parameter for risk pregnancies is, nevertheless, to be discussed.  相似文献
