Eruption of a tooth into a nonoral environs is rare. Ectopic eruption of the tooth into the nasal cavity and chin has been reported before. This is a report of an ectopic third molar tooth in the roof of the maxillary sinus, which has not, to our knowledge, been reported before.  相似文献

The placenta is a vital, multi-functional organ that acts as an interface between maternal and fetal circulation during pregnancy. Nutritional deficiencies during pregnancy alter placental development and function, leading to adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as pre-eclampsia, infants with small for gestational age and low birthweight, preterm birth, stillbirths and maternal mortality. Maternal nutritional supplementation may help to mitigate the risks, but the evidence base is difficult to navigate. The primary purpose of this umbrella review is to map the evidence on the effects of maternal nutritional supplements and dietary interventions on pregnancy outcomes related to placental disorders and maternal mortality. A systematic search was performed on seven electronic databases, the PROSPERO register and references lists of identified papers. The results were screened in a three-stage process based on title, abstract and full-text by two independent reviewers. Randomized controlled trial meta-analyses on the efficacy of maternal nutritional supplements or dietary interventions were included. There were 91 meta-analyses included, covering 23 types of supplements and three types of dietary interventions. We found evidence that supports supplementary vitamin D and/or calcium, omega-3, multiple micronutrients, lipid-based nutrients, and balanced protein energy in reducing the risks of adverse maternal and fetal health outcomes. However, these findings are limited by poor quality of evidence. Nutrient combinations show promise and support a paradigm shift to maternal dietary balance, rather than single micronutrient deficiencies, to improve maternal and fetal health. Objective: To test the mosquitocidal potential of leaf extracts of Pouteria campechiana prepared with different solvents and elucidate the structure of an isolated mosquitocidal compound. Methods: The leaf extracts of Pouteria campechiana prepared with three solvents(petroleum benzene, ethyl acetate and acetone) and potential bioactive fractions were tested against various stages of Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus by using the WHO protocols, and the chemical profile and its functional groups were identified by GC-MS and Fourier transmissioninfrared spectroscopy(FT-IR). The structure of bioactive compound was characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) spectral technique. Results: The preliminary phytochemical results revealed the presence of alkaloids, amino acids, flavonoids, quinones, saponins, steroids, tannins, and terpenoids in the acetone extract. A significant toxic potential was observed in the acetone extract against both Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes. The acetone extract exhibits remarkable larvicidal(LC_(50): 12.232 μg/mL and LC_(90): 63.970 μg/mL), pupicidal(LC_(50): 18.949 μg/mL and LC_(90): 167.669 μg/m L) and adulticidal(LC_(50): 20.689 μg/mL and LC_(90): 72.881 μg/mL) effects against Aedes aegypti. Furthermore, the same extract was subjected to isolation of bioactive compound by GCMS and FT-IR analysis. GC-MS results showed the presence of 5 major compounds, and octacosane(18.440%) was detected as the predominant compound. The FT-IR result of acetone extract demonstrated the presence of various functional groups like alkanes/alkynes, ester, aromatic and amides. The NMR spectrum results of isolated compound were well matched to glycoside linked flavonoids. Based on the chromatography and spectral techniques the isolate molecule was identified as myricitrin by FT-IR and nuclear magnetic resonance spectral data. Conclusion: The isolated compound myricitrin possesses a significant toxic effect in all stages of Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquito's with lowest LC_(50) and LC_(90) values.  相似文献

In our search for new anticancer drugs, a series of binuclear ruthenium(III) thiosemicarbazone complexes of the type [RuCl2(EPh3)]2L (where E = P/As; L = binucleating monobasic tridentate thiosemicarbazone ligand) have been synthesized. Structural features were determined by various physico-chemical and spectral techniques. The interactions of these complexes with CT-DNA were investigated by absorption spectral study, indicates that the binuclear ruthenium(III) complexes form adducts with DNA and has intrinsic binding constant in the range of 1.0 × 104–7.9 × 104 M?1. The free radical scavenging activity of binuclear ruthenium(III) complexes have been determined by their interaction with the stable DPPH free radical. All the complexes exhibited significant antiproliferative activity against human breast cancer line, MCF-7. This research may provide knowledge that is an excellent backdrop for the rational design of promising drugs.  相似文献

The recommended operative management of unruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm consists of closure of the mouth of the aneurysm with or without aortic valve surgery. We report a case of unruptured aneurysm producing right ventricular outflow tract obstruction. Closure of the mouth of the aneurysm failed to relieve the obstruction, which was subsequently achieved by excising the aneurysmal wall overlying the outflow tract.  相似文献

A cDNA clone representing the mRNA coding sequence of the fusion glycoprotein (F) gene of human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) was constructed and inserted into the thymidine kinase gene of vaccinia virus (WR strain) under the control of a vaccinia virus promoter. The resulting recombinant vaccinia virus, vaccinia F, expressed the F1 and F2 cleavage products (48 and 20 kDa, respectively) of the F glycoprotein in cell culture. F1 and F2 were indistinguishable from their authentic RSV counterparts with respect to glycosylation, disulfide linkage, electrophoretic mobility, cell-surface expression, and antigenic specificity. Cotton rats infected intradermally with vaccinia F developed a high titer of serum F-specific antibodies, which neutralized infectivity of RSV. This neutralizing antibody response exceeded that induced by infection of the respiratory tract with RSV and was 6-fold higher than that induced by vaccinia G, a recombinant vaccinia virus that expressed the RSV G glycoprotein gene. Immunization with vaccinia F stimulated almost complete resistance to replication of RSV in the lower respiratory tract as well as significant resistance in the upper respiratory tract. The degree of resistance conferred by vaccinia F exceeded that induced by vaccinia G.  相似文献

The medical records of 238 patients treated for mandibular fractures at Sri Ramachandra Dental College and Hospital, India, over a period of 4 years were reviewed. Of the total 238 patients with mandibular fractures, 81% were males, and 19% were females. The majority of the patients were 21 to 30 years of age. Road traffic accidents, especially people traveling on motorcycles, accounted for 73% of all patients, with a high prevalence during the month of September and on Saturdays. The most common area of fracture was in the parasymphysis region (35.2%) followed by the condyle region (22.6%).  相似文献

The pathogenesis of glycerol-induced myoglobinuric acute renal failure involves ischemia, vascular congestion and reactive oxygen metabolites. In this study, we have investigated for the first time, the role of ferulic acid in attenuating glycerol-induced nephrotoxicity. Male Wistar rats were injected intramuscularly with 8?mL/kg body weight of 50% glycerol, glycerol?+?ferulic acid at the dose of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25?mg/kg body weight. After 24?h, the rats were sacrificed and the kidneys were removed for histological and immunohistochemical studies. Furthermore, determinations of lipid peroxidation (LPO) as well as antioxidant enzymes were also analyzed; blood, urine samples were collected in order to quantify renal function and nitric oxide generation, respectively. Glycerol-induced rats showed a significant increase in the level of urinary markers assessed in serum as well as kidney and these were reversed upon ferulic acid treatment. A significant increase in urine nitric oxide, serum as well as kidney LPO, decrease in activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione-S-transferase and reduced glutathione were observed in glycerol-induced rats. Immunohistochemical study in glycerol-induced rats demonstrated an increase in the level of nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB). All these effects induced by glycerol were reduced upon treatment with ferulic acid in a dose-dependent manner. To conclude, ferulic acid enhances antioxidants and decreases NF-κB, thereby protecting the cells against stress induced by glycerol.  相似文献

Adequate dietary protein intake throughout pregnancy is essential to ensure healthy fetal development. Insufficient and excessive maternal dietary protein intakes are both associated with intrauterine growth restriction, resulting in low birth weight infants. The aim of this study was to analyze the dietary protein intake patterns of healthy pregnant women in Vancouver, British Columbia, during early and late gestation. We hypothesized that women would be consuming higher protein during late stages of pregnancy compared with early stages of pregnancy. Interviewer-administered food frequency questionnaires were collected prospectively from 270 women at 16- and 36-week gestation; food frequency questionnaires from 212 women met study criteria. Maternal anthropometrics at both stages and infant weight at birth were collected. Wilcoxon signed rank tests were used to determine significant gestational differences in protein intakes. Spearman correlation was used to determine the influence of protein intakes and maternal anthropometrics on pregnancy outcomes. Median (25th and 75th percentiles) protein intakes adjusted for body weight were 1.5 (1.18 and 1.79) and 1.3 (1.04 and 1.60) g/kg per day at 16- than 36-week gestation, respectively. Primary protein sources were identified as dairy products. Protein intakes were negatively correlated with birth weight (P < .05), whereas maternal height, weight, body mass index, and weight gain to 36-week gestation were positively correlated with birth weight (P < .05). This study provides current dietary protein intake patterns among healthy Canadian women during pregnancy and indicates higher intakes than current Dietary Reference Intakes recommended dietary allowance of 1.1 g/kg per day, especially during early gestation.  相似文献
