Background:Vertical pelvic ring displacement (VPRD) is a serious injury and needs assessment. Pelvic outlet radiographs are routinely taken. However, relationship of radiographic and actual VPRD is still in question. Thus, measurement of VPRD from pelvic radiographs was studied.Results:Radiographic VPRD from outlet and anteroposterior pelvic views at 10 mm actual displacement were 20.12 ± 1.98 and 4.08 ± 3.76 mm, at 20 mm were 40.31 ± 1.97 and 9.94 ± 7.27 mm and at 30 mm were 58.56 ± 2.53 and 11.29 ± 2.89 mm. Statistical analyses showed that radiographic VPRD from pelvic outlet view is 1.95 times of actual displacement with strong correlation at 0.992 coefficient and strongly significant regression analysis (P < 0.001) with 0.984 of R2 value. Whereas, the measurement from anteroposterior pelvic radiograph was not strongly significant.Conclusion:Pelvic outlet radiograph provides efficient measurement of VPRD with 2 times of actual displacement.  相似文献

The metal-chelating activity of a series of 48 chromone compounds, evaluated by ferrous (Fe2+) chelating test, were subjected to 3D-QSAR studies using comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA). The best CoMFA model obtained from HF/6-31G* geometry optimization and field fit alignment gave cross-validated r 2 (q 2) = 0.582, non-cross-validated r 2 = 0.975. The best CoMSIA model gave q 2 = 0.617, non-cross-validated r 2 = 0.917. The resulted CoMFA and CoMSIA contour maps proposed the Fe2+-chelating sites of chromone compounds compared with those of quercetin.  相似文献

Purpose

To explore how Thai patients assess symptoms as adverse drug reactions (ADRs).

Methods

Out-patients at two hospitals in Thailand previously reporting suspected ADRs to statins were purposively selected to cover factors relevant to the accuracy of ADR reports. Semi-structured interviews explored the mechanisms participants used to work out whether their symptoms were related to their statin. All interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed and independently thematically analyzed by two researchers.

Results

One hundred interviews were suitable for analysis; 52 were male, age range was 36 to 77 years (mean?±?S.D.: 59.83?±?9.14) and most (92) were taking other medicines in addition to statins. Patient assessment of symptoms as ADRs fell into two major themes: medicine-related factors and external factors. Timing relationships were mentioned most frequently (74), followed by information received (55), seeing similar symptoms in others (7) and diagnosis through blood tests (4). Use of multiple medicines, consideration of the medicine versus diseases, symptoms occurring with more than one medicine or relieved through treatment reduced confidence in ADR attribution. Many participants proposed alternative explanations for symptoms, including old age. Lack of information and knowledge were obstacles to the assessment process.

Conclusions

Patients assessed possible ADRs most often by considering timing relationships. While they also used medicine information, Thai patients received inadequate information to help them assess their symptoms. Patients expressed uncertainty and difficulties in deciding attribution when concomitant medicines and diseases were involved. The findings could support the development of a patient-friendly systematic tool for identifying and assessing possible ADRs.  相似文献

Background:

Acetabular fracture involves whether superior articular weight bearing area and stability of the hip are assessed by acetabular roof arc angles comprising medial, anterior and posterior. Many previous studies, based on clinical, biomechanics and anatomic superior articular surface of acetabulum showed different degrees of the angles. Anatomic biomechanical superior acetabular weight bearing area (ABSAWBA) of the femoral head can be identified as radiographic subchondral bone density at superior acetabular dome. The fracture passes through ABSAWBA creating traumatic hip arthritis. Therefore, acetabular roof arc angles of ABSAWBA were studied in order to find out that the most appropriate degrees of recommended acetabular roof arc angles in the previous studies had no ABSAWBA involvement.

Materials and Methods:

ABSAWBA of femoral head was identified 68 acetabular fractures and 13 isolated pelvic fractures without unstable pelvic ring injury were enrolled. Acetabular roof arc angle was measured on anteroposterior, obturator and iliac oblique view radiographs of normal contralateral acetabulum using programmatic automation controller digital system and measurement tools.

Results:

Average medial, anterior and posterior acetabular roof arc angles of the ABSAWBA of 94 normal acetabulum were 39.09 (7.41), 42.49 (8.15) and 55.26 (10.08) degrees, respectively.

Conclusions:

Less than 39°, 42° and 55° of medial, anterior and posterior acetabular roof arc angles involve ABSAWBA of the femoral head. Application of the study results showed that 45°, 45° and 62° from the previous studies are the most appropriate medial, anterior and posterior acetabular roof arc angles without involvement of the ABSAWBA respectively.  相似文献

We have conducted three studies to examine the role of TNFalpha in islet destruction in female nonobese diabetic mouse (NOD) mice, a model of human autoimmune diabetes, using polyethylene glycolated (PEGylated) soluble TNF receptor type I (PEG sTNF-RI) as TNFalpha antagonist. PEG sTNF-RI (3 mg/kg, sc) was given every other day to NOD mice from age wk 8 for 12 wk (study 1), from age wk 12 for 8 wk (study 2), or from age wk 8 for 3 wk, with cyclophosphamide (6 mg/mouse) injected at wk 9 to accelerate the onset of diabetes (study 3). Diabetic incidence was reduced (control vs. PEG sTNF-RI) from 68.7% (11 of 16) to 18.3% (3 of 16) in study 1, from 84.6% (11 of 13) to 28.5% (4 of 14) in study 2, and from 66.6% (8 of 12) to 23.1% (3 of 13) in study 3, respectively. The incidence of insulitis was also reduced from 91.6% (11 of 12) to 12.5% (2 of 16) in study 1 and from 100% (7 of 7) to 16.6% (2 of 12) in study 2 by PEG sTNF-RI. PEG sTNF-RI also largely preserved islet insulin content, reduced mRNA of inducible nitric oxide synthase and IL-6 in pancreases, and lowered plasma corticosterone, glycerol, and free fatty acid levels. These results confirm a pathogenic role of TNFalpha in mediating insulitis in NOD mice and suggest the prophylactic and therapeutic potential of PEG sTNF-RI for human autoimmune diabetes.  相似文献

Forty-eight chromone derivatives were evaluated for their antioxidant activity using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging assay, ferrous ions (Fe(2+) ) chelating activity test, total antioxidant activity test (Ferric thiocyanate and Thiobarbituric acid methods), and total reductive capability (potassium ferricyanide reduction). 7,8-Dihydroxy-2-(3'-trifluoromethylphenyl)-3-(3″-trifluoromethylbenzoyl) chromone 32 showed stronger radical scavenging and metal chelating activities than butylated hydroxytoluene, vitamin E, and trolox. Chromone derivatives that exhibited good radical scavenging and metal chelating also displayed strong total antioxidant and reductive power activities. The results obtained from this study indicated that the synthesized chromone derivatives have remarkable antioxidant activity.  相似文献

Scleredema diabeticorum is an uncommon condition. It is one of the cutaneous manifestations in diabetes mellitus that mainly occurs in obese middle-aged men with insulin-resistant diabetes. This condition is generally recalcitrant to therapy. Various treatments have been tried with inconsistent results.
