Subject and aims
Endothelial derived nitric oxide (eNOS) is involved in several functions playing important role in development of type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. The aim of this study was to examine the association between eNOS intron 4 VNTR polymorphism and type 2 diabetes in an Iranian population. Methods
A total of 220 patients with type 2 diabetes and 96 healthy control subjects were recruited from the same area. Genotyping was performed using PCR.Results
A significant difference was found in genotype frequencies of eNOS polymorphism between patients and controls (aa + ab vs. bb p = 0.02, OR 2.0 95% CI; 1.05-3.96). Also allele a frequency was significantly increased in patients with diabetes compared with controls (p = 0.007, OR 2.1 95% CI; 1.19-4.08). We found that in patients with diabetic neuropathy the frequency of ‘a’ allele was significantly increased compared to the controls p = 0.03, OR = 1.8 95% CI (1.00-3.7). Both genotype and allele frequencies were significantly different between patients who were complication free compared to the controls [aa + ab vs. bb p = 0.007, OR = 2.6 95% CI (1.2-5.8) and p = 0.001, OR = 2.8 95% CI (1.4-5.9)] respectively with the a allele conferring the risk. Conclusion
The association between eNOS VNTR polymorphism and T2DM seems to be stronger in patients without diabetic complications indicating diverse effect of eNOS polymorphism on diabetes and diabetic microvascular complications. 相似文献3.

Background
Physician well-being is a significant problem. Here we explore whether one factor, a resident's concern for being judged by one's gender, influences well-being.Methods
Over two years at one institution, we surveyed surgical residents on validated measures of well-being as well as the extent to which they felt they were judged because of their gender (gender judgment). We used correlations and linear regression to investigate the relationships between gender judgment and well-being.Results
There were 193 unique respondents (87% response rate). Women had significantly more concerns about gender judgment than men (M = 2.39, SD = 0.73 vs. M = 1.46, SD = 0.62, t = ?9.47, p < 0.00001). In regression analyses, gender judgment concerns were significantly associated with all three well-being outcomes (Bs -0.34, 0.50, and 0.39, respectively for well-being, emotional exhaustion, and depersonalization, all p < 0.013).Conclusions
The degree to which residents, both male and female, are concerned about being judged for their gender is significantly associated with worse well-being. 相似文献4.

Amalgam's non-adhesive characteristics necessitate cavity preparations incorporating retentive features, which often require the removal of non-carious tooth structure. Use of adhesives beneath amalgam restorations, would be helpful to overcome this disadvantage. This study was undertaken to compare the mean shear bond strength of amalgam bonded to primary and permanent dentin, to evaluate the efficacy of amalgam adhesives in pediatric dentistry.27 primary and 28 permanent posterior teeth with intact buccal or lingual surfaces were grounded to expose dentin and wet-polished with 400-grit silicone carbide paper. Scotchbond Multi Purpose Plus adhesive system was applied to the dentin surfaces and light cured. Amalgam was condensed onto the treated dentin through a plastic mold.shear bond strength testing was done using an Instron Universal testing machine, at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min.The data were analyzed by independent samples t-test The difference among the two groups was not statistically significant (p>0.05) Bonded amalgam showed the same level of bond strength to primary and permanent dentin; so, application of amalgam bonding agents in pediatric dentistry can be recommended. 相似文献
