The effect of heavy drinking and sauna bathing on cardiac rhythm, blood pressure, and serum electrolyte and cortisol concentrations was studied in 10 healthy male volunteers. Sauna bathing induced a comparable, significant increase in heart rate with and without alcohol consumption. During sauna bathing without alcohol, systolic blood pressure remained at the baseline level, whereas sauna and alcohol together decreased systolic blood pressure markedly from 136 +/- 4 to 113 +/- 3 mmHg (P less than 0.01). Neither sauna alone, nor sauna combined with alcohol intake, increased the frequency of premature ventricular complexes. Serum potassium, calcium and cortisol concentrations changed slightly during sauna, but alcohol consumption did not contribute further to this. In conclusion, sauna bathing, even in combination with heavy drinking, does not appear to provoke cardiac arrhythmias in healthy young men. However, the risk of hypotension is increased when sauna bathing is combined with alcohol consumption.  相似文献

We determined the distribution of DR4 subtypes in 309 DQB1*0302-positive haplotypes found in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) patients and 70 control haplotypes present only in healthy family members. An increased frequency of DRB1*0401 allele (74.4% vs. 55.7%, P = 0.003) and a decrease of DRB1*0404 allele (23.6% vs. 40.0%, P = 0.0064) was revealed. A further analysis of extended haplotypes demonstrated strong linkages between various B alleles and DRB1*04 subtypes. HLA-B39 was more frequent in DRB1*0404–DQB1*0302-positive IDDM haplotypes compared with control ones (37.0% vs. 14.3%, P = 0.049), suggesting an involvement of the region telomeric to HLA-DRB1 in the susceptibility to IDDM.  相似文献

The lipid profile is known to alter in patients with infection, but there has not been a study of the apolipoprotein levels in serum of otherwise healthy children during infection. Lipids, lipoproteins, apolipoproteins A-l and B and lipoprotein (a) were evaluated prospectively in 31 consecutive children, aged4–15 years, who were admitted to the hospital with bacterial pharyngitis. The degree of dyslipidemia associated with bacterial pharyngitis was assessed using each child as his/her own control and by comparison with 79 healthy children who had not had an infection during the past 3 months. Serum total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, apolipoprotein A-l and apolipoprotein B levels were significantly decreased during the symptomatic phase of the disease, whereas the serum triglyceride level was slightly elevated. Serum lipoprotein (a) concentration did not change significantly. In conclusion, it is suggested that serum lipids, lipoproteins and apolipoproteins should not be assessed during infection because of the possible transient changes of these parameters during infection or inflammation.  相似文献

Thrombolysis is considered to be contraindicated in acute ischemic stroke secondary to infective endocarditis (IE). We report a 12-year-old female who presented with acute dense right hemiparesis and aphasia. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging and angiography showed multiple diffusion-restricted lesions in the left hemisphere and absence of flow in the left internal carotid artery. She was treated with intra-arterial tissue plasminogen activator within 6 hours of her presentation. Subsequently she was diagnosed with pneumococcal endocarditis and underwent debridement of vegetations and patch repair of the mitral valve. The patient did not have hemorrhagic complications following thrombolytic therapy or surgery. Pathological analysis of the mitral valve vegetations revealed mostly fibrin thrombus. Follow-up imaging showed complete recanalization of the left internal carotid artery, and the patient had a remarkable neurological recovery. This is the first case report of successful intra-arterial thrombolytic therapy in childhood IE-related stroke. We believe that thrombolytic therapy contributed to a favorable outcome in our patient and may be safe in selected patients with childhood IE-related acute ischemic stroke.  相似文献

To investigate the hypothesis that eicosanoids act as cellular mediators in the optic nerve head of normals and of patients with glaucoma, we have determined the presence of the two cyclooxygenase (COX) isoforms in human tissue. Histological sections of optic nerve heads were studied by immunohistochemistry. Age matched normal donors were compared with eyes from glaucoma patients with moderate to severe nerve damage. Polyclonal antibodies to human COX-1 and COX-2 were localized with immunoperoxidase staining. Specific antibodies for vascular endothelia and microglia were also co-localized. In normal and glaucomatous eyes, COX-1 was localized exclusively to the prelaminar and lamina cribrosa regions of the optic nerve head. No staining for COX-1 was observed in the nerve fiber layer or the myelinated optic nerve. COX-1 was associated with the astrocytes of the glial columns and the cribriform plates, but not with the endothelia lining the capillaries. In glaucoma, more astrocytes appeared to be stained with antibody to COX-1 than in normals and staining was intensely perinuclear. There was no staining for COX-2 in normal tissue. A few COX-2 positive cells were found in the prelaminar, lamina cribrosa and postlaminar regions of the glaucomatous optic nerves. Positive staining for COX-2 was not associated with microglia. COX-1 is constitutively present in astrocytes that are localized exclusively to the prelaminar and lamina cribrosa regions of the human optic nerve head. Eicosanoids, synthesized by COX-1 in this tissue, may have a homeostatic and a neuroprotective role related to the axons of the retinal ganglion cells. The sparse presence of COX-2 in glaucomatous tissue probably reflects the lack of inflammation associated with glaucomatous optic neuropathy.  相似文献

The effect of nimodipine, a vasoactive calcium antagonist, on the disappearance of soman from blood was studied in anaesthetized rabbits intoxicated with soman (10.8 μg kg?1 i.v.). Blood samples from the left heart ventricle and femoral artery were used to investigate soman detoxification. The concentrations of the soman isomers C + P - and C - P - in blood samples were determined by gas chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry. During the sampling, 15–300 s after soman injection, the soman concentration in control animals decreased from 50 to 0.029 ng mL?1; in animals pre-treated with nimodipine (10 mg kg?1) it decreased from 15 to 0.033 ng mL?1. In animals pre-treated with nimodipine the soman concentration was significantly reduced during the first minute of sampling. No differences were detected between soman concentrations in samples from the heart and femoral artery. Acetylcholinesterase inhibition was also used as an indicator of soman activity; there was no difference between the activity of this enzyme in different peripheral organs of control and nimodipine-treated animals. Nimodipine reduces the initial concentration of soman in the blood, which might be of significance in the treatment of soman intoxication.  相似文献

TRH has pronounced vascular effects. The final transmitter mechnisms of these effects are not fully understood. The present study was conducted in order to elucidate whether these effects are mediated by prostaglandic or muscarinic mechanisms. Muscarinic blockade augmented the vasoconstricting- and pressor effect of TRH; vasodilation in the brain was attenuated only in the caudate nucleus. Indomethacin provoked a decrease in regional cerebral blood flow and in the gastric mucosal blood flow. No effect of indomethacin was observed on the vascular effects of TRH. It is concluded that the cerebral vasodilating and peripheral vasoconstricting effects of TRH are not mediated by prostaglandins. Muscarinic mechanisms are involved in the vasodilating effect of TRH only in the caudate nucleus.  相似文献

Pulpal tissue was incubated at 37°C for 10 min with various solutions used for root canal therapy. The dissolved material was assayed for hydroxyproline (HYP) and total phosphate, and the insoluble residue for HYP and dry weight. Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) at 5% and diluted to 2.5% showed the strongest solvent capacity measured as loss of HYP and weight from the tissue. Dilution to 0.5% significantly decreased the effectiveness of NaOCl. The absence of HYP from the NaOCl extracts suggested decomposition of this amino acid. The other solutions tested were far inferior in their ability to dissolve pulpal tissue. The demineralizing solutions tested were poor solubilizers of soft tissue; however, they caused a considerable increase in the amount of phosphate released.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. Fifty-one healthy prepubertal schoolchildren were followed for 13 months in a double blind study. Twenty-four of them were supplemented with 400 IU of vitamin D2 5–7 times weekly, while 27 received a placebo. The children were examined in winter both at the beginning and at the end of the study, and in the middle of the study in autumn. Mean 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in the supplemented group were significantly higher than those in the placebo group both in autumn and in winter, when the study ended. The vitamin D supplementation did not, however, affect other vitamin D metabolites, serum calcium, albumin, inorganic phosphorus, parathyroid hormone concentrations or alkaline phosphatase activity. Moreover, the supplementation caused no alterations in the weight or height gain or bone mineral content of the distal radius of the children, and thus subclinical rickets could not be shown.  相似文献
