Are Dermatophytid Reactions in Patients with Kerion Celsi Much More Common Than Previously Thought? A Prospective Study

Dermatophytid reactions are secondary eruptions in response to dermatophytosis. Only a few cases demonstrating an association between dermatophytid reactions and tinea capitis have been reported. Dermatophytid reactions were evaluated in patients diagnosed with kerion celsi. Patients admitted to the dermatology clinic of Van Regional Training and Research Hospital between November 22, 2012, and July 1, 2013, diagnosed with kerion celsi were evaluated for dermatophytid reactions. Six girls (32%) and 13 boys (68%) were included in this study. Dermatophytid reactions were detected in 13 of the 19 patients (68%). Seven patients (36.84%) had eczematous patches or plaques and three (15.8%) had papules. Eczematous lesions, papules, and pustules were noted in two patients (10.5%) and one (5.3%) had signs of an angioedema‐like reaction. Dermatophytid reactions in all patients were observed before the initiation of therapy. According to our clinical experiences, dermatophytid reactions in patients with kerion celsi were more common than reported. Eczematous scaly patches or plaques were the most frequently seen forms of dermatophytid in patients with kerion celsi. Dermatophytid reactions may occur before or after initiation of systemic antifungal therapy. Recognition of this reaction is important so that dermatophytids can be distinguished from drug reactions and the decision can be made whether to continue or to stop the systemic antifungal treatment. 相似文献

To evaluate the association of HLA types with Turkish patients with Graves' disease, HLA typing, clinical findings, and thyroid antibodies were correlated. The HLA types, clinical findings (ophthalmopathy and age at onset), and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) receptor (TRAb) and antithyroid microsomal antibodies (MAb) were analyzed. Seventy Turkish patients with Graves' disease and 306 control subjects were assessed. Serological HLA typing was performed in HLA A, B, C, DR, and DQ loci. There was a significantly increased prevalence of HLA B8, B49, DR3, DR4, and DR10 in Graves' disease. The association of Graves' disease with HLA DR3 was found to be less strong than previously described. The HLA DR4 antigen may contribute to the predisposition of Graves' disease in Turkey. The results suggest that HLA B7, B13, DR7, DQw2, and DQw3 may confer a protective effect for Graves' disease in Turkey. Patients carrying HLA B12, B18, and B44 haplotypes had a tendency to develop the disease at a later age. The difference from the other studies may be the result of the selection of the controls; in part, of the variability in serological typing reagents; and, also, of the rather weak HLA associations with the disease.This study was presented in part at the Annual Meeting of the National Endocrinology and Diabetes Association, Bursa, Turkey, May 25–28, 1992. 相似文献

Acylglucuronides formed from carboxylic acids by UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs) are electrophilic metabolites able to covalently bind proteins. In this study, we demonstrate the reactivity of the acylglucuronide from the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, ketoprofen, toward human and rat liver UGTs. Ketoprofen acylglucuronide irreversibly inhibited the glucuronidation of 1-naphthol and 2-naphthol catalyzed by human liver microsomes or by the recombinant rat liver isoform, UGT2B1, which is the main isoform involved in the glucuronidation of the drug. A decrease of about 35% in the glucuronidation of 2-naphthol was observed when ketoprofen acylglucuronide was produced in situ in cultured V79 cells expressing UGT2B1. Inhibition was always associated with the formation of microsomal protein-ketoprofen adducts. The presence of these covalent adducts within the endoplasmic reticulum of cells expressing UGT2B1 was demonstrated following addition of ketoprofen to culture medium by immunofluorescence microscopy with antiketoprofen antibodies. Immunoblots of liver microsomes incubated with ketoprofen acylglucuronide and probed with antiketoprofen antibodies revealed the presence of several protein adducts; among those was a major immunoreactive protein at 56 kDa, in the range of the apparent molecular mass of UGTs. The adduct formation partially prevented the photoincorporation of the UDP-glucuronic acid (UDP-GlcUA) analog, [beta-32P]5N3UDP-GlcUA, on the UGTs, suggesting that ketoprofen glucuronide covalently reacted with the UDP-GlcUA binding domain. Finally, UGT purification from rat liver microsomes incubated with ketoprofen glucuronide led to the isolation of UGT adducts recognized by both anti-UGT and antiketoprofen antibodies, providing strong evidence that UGTs are targets of this metabolite. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of hydrodynamic forces on the multiplication of E. coli, and biofilm formation and dispersion. The experiments were provided in a flow chamber simulating a cleaning-in-place system. Biofilm biomass was measured using a crystal violet dye method. The results show that hydrodynamic forces affect not only biofilm formation and dispersion but the multiplication of E. coli in the first place. We found more biofilm biomass on the rough surface than on the smooth one. The results of the biofilm formation test show that laminar flow promotes the biofilm growth over 72 h, meanwhile turbulent flow after 48 h causes decrease in biomass. The results of the biofilm dispersion test, in contrast, show that laminar flow removed less biofilm from both materials that turbulent flow did. Therefore, taking into account these findings in cleaning-in-place technology can substantially reduce E. coli multiplication and biofilm formation. 相似文献

Objectives: This study aimed to compare the prevalence of smoking status (i.e., current, former and never) between the United States and Turkey in terms of age and gender, and examine how smoking rules and health warnings are associated with smoking status within and between the two countries. Methods: The study used data from the 2012–2013 National Adult Tobacco Survey (U.S. sample, N = 60,196) and the 2012 Global Adult Tobacco Survey (Turkey sample, N = 9,581). SAS PROC SURVEYLOGISTIC with a weighted variable was used to examine the associations between demographics (age, gender and education), smoking rules, health warnings, and smoking status within and between the two countries. Results: There was an 18% current smoking prevalence among U.S. sample, compared to 27% of the Turkey sample. The U.S. sample had a higher rate of former smoking compared to the Turkey sample (25% vs. 22%). In both countries, being older and male gender predicted former smoking while being younger and female gender predicted never smoking. Having seen a health warning, and not allowing smoking in the vehicle and home positively predicted former and never smoking status. Higher education predicted both smoking statuses in the U.S. only. Conclusions: It is important to work with partners particularly in low- and middle-income countries (e.g., Turkey) to combat the global tobacco epidemic. In both counties, cessation endeavors should emphasize a comprehensive understanding of smoking status in terms of smoking rules in personal spaces and health warnings. 相似文献

AIM: To investigate the effect of pomegranate juice (PJ) intake on overall oxidation status in retinas of diabetic rats.
METHODS: Twenty-seven rats were divided into four groups as control (CO), diabetic (DM), control treated with PC (CO-PJ), and diabetic treated with PJ (DM-PJ).The retina tissues were used to determine 8-Hydroxy-2’-deoxyguanosine (8OHdG), malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH) levels, and the enzyme activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px).
RESULTS: The levels of 8OHdG and MDA were significantly increased in the retina of DM group compared to CO group (p=0.001, p<0.001 respectively). Both 8OHdG and MDA levels were decreased in PJ-DM group compared to DM group (p=0.004, p<0.001 respectively). The activities of antioxidant enzymes GSH, SOD, and GDH-Px were significantly decreased in the retina of DM group compared to CO group (p≤0.01). GSH and GSH-Px activities were higher in PJ-DM group compared with DM group (p=0.010, p=0.042, respectively) but SOD activity was not statistically different (p=0.938).
CONCLUSION: PJ intake was found to be effective in decreasing oxidative end products, and in increasing the activities of antioxidant enzymes in diabetic retinas of rats, which suggests it may be effective against oxidative stress in diabetic retinas. 相似文献
