The mechanism of the effect of the posterior root ganglia on smooth muscle

Summary The posterior roots of the lumbar and sacral regions of the dog spinal cord were stimulated, and the effect on the smooth muscle of the urinary bladder and m. retractor penis found. The wall of the bladder contracted and the m. retractor penis relaxed. The reaction was intensified by eserine but was not affected by cocaine. Therefore, acetylcholine plays a significant part in the action of the posterior roots on these muscles.(Presented by Active Member AMN SSSR U. V. Factors impacting long-term pulmonary autograft durability after the Ross procedure

Objective

Although the Ross procedure provides excellent long-term survival and a high quality of life, its use has been limited to relatively few centers. In this study, we evaluated long-term Ross procedure results in adults to assess the predictors of pulmonary autograft durability.

Iatrogenic diseases and scientific and technical progress

Evolution of the term "iatrogenesis" and a widening range of the diseases varying in origin and clinical appearance covered with this term are considered. It is emphasized that such interpretation misrepresents the primary meaning aimed at orientation of the physicians to evaluation of the patient and doctor personality in view of its role in the genesis of psychic and somatic disturbances which tends to loom large with further scientific and technological progress. Iatrogenesis is supposed to be relevant to pathomorphosis of the borderline psychic conditions, prenosologic diagnosis and screening of population, drug addiction and alcoholism management. There is a tendency to further introduction of technical aspects into medical education.     

Efficacy of amixine in experimental hantavirus infection

The experimental studies conducted on 2-week suckling mice infected with Hantaan virus, Strain 76-118) treated with oral and subcutaneous amoxine showed its prophylactic, therapeutical-and-prophylactic, and therapeutical efficiencies. Oral amoxine exhibited the highest efficiency when used in a dose of 10 mg/kg-1 96 hours before infection and throughout the incubation period. The protective efficiency was 61%. Subcutaneously, the agent was effective when three schemes for injection in a dose of 1 mg/kg-1. Its maximum effect was observed when amoxine was given by the therapeutical-and-prophylactic scheme. The death protection rate was 65%. The agent is effective in suppressing the reproduction of Hantaan virus in the brain tissue.     

Effect of the work process on the genital sphere in female workers

Medical examination of 841 female workers engaged in motocycle production and 573 females working at the plants producing electric radio equipment were carried out. The analysis of the results obtained showed that an increase in labour intensity resulted in higher rates of menopause disorders and late gestosis. The combination of the constant forced sedentary posture and light work burden caused an anomalous position of uterus and prevented a normal course of delivery.
