A great deal of interest has developed regarding the impact of cognitive deficits on the everyday functioning of people with schizophrenia. This study examined the relationships between cognitive functioning and the performance of a specific independent living skill (grocery shopping) in a sample of 73 individuals with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. Cognitive variables included tests of verbal memory, executive functioning, verbal fluency, sustained attention and visual motor skill. Functional outcome was measured with the Test of Grocery Shopping Skills, which is an ecologically based performance measure that requires participants to shop for 10 items within an actual grocery store. Accuracy on the shopping task was significantly associated with fewer perseverative responses on the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, better verbal memory and faster processing speed. Shopping efficiency (i.e. less redundancy) was associated with better performance on several cognitive tasks, including verbal memory, verbal fluency, sustained attention and executive functioning. Results of this study extend previous research by examining the relation between cognition and the actual performance of daily living skills under natural circumstances.  相似文献

The experience of numerous cases of surgical operations carried out over the ten years from 1990-2000, has meant we have been able to reflect on the fact that the median, ulnar, radial (upper extremity), tibial and external popliteal sciatic (lower extremity) nerves are more greatly exposed to compressive pathology. This is due to certain anatomical topographical relationships with canals, semi-canals, tunnels in well-defined and unchanging sites. From this point of view, a pathology with an etiopathogenic topographical tendency is emerging.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To prospectively use compact avalanche photodiodes instead of photomultiplier tubes to integrate a positron emission tomographic (PET) detector and a 7-T magnetic resonance (MR) imager. MATERIALS AND METHODS: All animal experiments were performed in accordance with the University of Tübingen guidelines and the German law for the protection of animals. A compact lutetium oxyorthosilicate-avalanche photodiode PET detector was built and optimized to operate within a 7-T MR imager. The detector performance was investigated both outside and inside the magnet, and MR image quality was evaluated with and without the PET detector. Two PET detectors were set up opposite each other and operated in coincidence to acquire PET images in the step-and-shoot mode in a mouse head specimen after injection of fluorine 18 fluorodeoxyglucose. RESULTS: The performance of the PET detector when operated inside the magnet during MR image acquisition showed little degradation in energy resolution (increase from 14.6% to 15.9%). The PET detector did not influence MR imaging. The fused PET and MR images showed an anatomic match and no degradation of image quality. CONCLUSION: Simultaneous PET and MR imaging with a 7-T system was deemed feasible.  相似文献

Purpose

To compare the clinical performance of upper abdominal PET/DCE-MRI with and without concurrent respiratory motion correction (MoCo).

Methods

MoCo PET/DCE-MRI of the upper abdomen was acquired in 44 consecutive oncologic patients and compared with non-MoCo PET/MRI. SUVmax and MTV of FDG-avid upper abdominal malignant lesions were assessed on MoCo and non-MoCo PET images. Image quality was compared between MoCo DCE-MRI and non-MoCo CE-MRI, and between fused MoCo PET/MRI and fused non-MoCo PET/MRI images.

Results

MoCo PET resulted in higher SUVmax (10.8?±?5.45) than non-MoCo PET (9.62?±?5.42) and lower MTV (35.55?±?141.95 cm3) than non-MoCo PET (38.11?±?198.14 cm3; p?<?0.005 for both). The quality of MoCo DCE-MRI images (4.73?±?0.5) was higher than that of non-MoCo CE-MRI images (4.53±0.71; p?=?0.037). The quality of fused MoCo-PET/MRI images (4.96?±?0.16) was higher than that of fused non-MoCo PET/MRI images (4.39?±?0.66; p?<?0.005).

Conclusion

MoCo PET/MRI provided qualitatively better images than non-MoCo PET/MRI, and upper abdominal malignant lesions demonstrated higher SUVmax and lower MTV on MoCo PET/MRI.

Positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are widely used in vivo imaging technologies with both clinical and biomedical research applications. The strengths of MRI include high-resolution, high-contrast morphologic imaging of soft tissues; the ability to image physiologic parameters such as diffusion and changes in oxygenation level resulting from neuronal stimulation; and the measurement of metabolites using chemical shift imaging. PET images the distribution of biologically targeted radiotracers with high sensitivity, but images generally lack anatomic context and are of lower spatial resolution. Integration of these technologies permits the acquisition of temporally correlated data showing the distribution of PET radiotracers and MRI contrast agents or MR-detectable metabolites, with registration to the underlying anatomy. An MRI-compatible PET scanner has been built for biomedical research applications that allows data from both modalities to be acquired simultaneously. Experiments demonstrate no effect of the MRI system on the spatial resolution of the PET system and <10% reduction in the fraction of radioactive decay events detected by the PET scanner inside the MRI. The signal-to-noise ratio and uniformity of the MR images, with the exception of one particular pulse sequence, were little affected by the presence of the PET scanner. In vivo simultaneous PET and MRI studies were performed in mice. Proof-of-principle in vivo MR spectroscopy and functional MRI experiments were also demonstrated with the combined scanner.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The exposure of liver to hepatotoxins, and their subsequent metabolism, results in increased reactive oxygen species (ROS), one of the major culprits in causing both acute liver cell injury and chronic liver diseases. The aim of this present study is to investigate the protective effects of lentiviral vector-mediated copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (LV-SOD1) gene transfer against ROS-induced cytotoxicity in Hep G2 cells and liver injury in mice. METHODS: In vitro SOD1 efficacy was tested against two ROS-generating systems: hypoxanthine/xanthine oxidase (HX/XO) and hydroxyethyl radicals (HER), whereas in vivo SOD1 efficacy was evaluated in carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced liver injury in C57BL/6 mice. RESULTS: LV-SOD1 transduction in Hep G2 cells resulted in a significant increase in SOD activity in cell lysates, and it significantly decreased the toxicity induced by HX/XO and HER. High SOD1 expression in the liver was achieved via portal vein injection of LV-SOD1 in mice and these high levels were observed for 30 days, the length of the experiment to date. SOD1 overexpression significantly decreased the toxicity and restored liver function in the CCl4-treated mice. CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate for the first time that LV transduction led to the long-term expression of fully functional transgene expression in both in vitro and in vivo systems.  相似文献
