This study investigated social interactions between infants and mothers, comparing dyads with physically disabled infants and dyads with nondisabled infants. The groups were matched on mental and motor development, sex, socioeconomic status, birth order, and maternal education. Each infant-mother dyad was videotaped at home during a 10-minute period of free play, and blind observers subsequently transcribed infants' and mothers' behaviors. In general, the groups were remarkably similar in their interaction patterns. However, a few differences emerged: Mothers of infants with physical disabilities were significantly more commanding than were comparison mothers. Nondisabled infants tended to engage in more eye contact than did infants with physical disabilities. And whereas mothers of nondisabled infants responded to interactive play with interactive play, mothers of infants with physical handicaps tended to respond with commands and verbalizations. These results suggest reciprocal influences between infants and mothers in both groups and highlight emerging maternal behavior patterns that may interfere with the development of communication and independence in handicapped young children.  相似文献

Semen samples from 279 infertility patients attending an Immunological Centre were analysed to evaluate the relationship between the populations of leucocytes, seminal quality, antisperm antibodies, and seminal vesicle function. The most frequent finding between leucocytospermic samples was asthenozoospermia (57%), whereas in non-leucocytospermic samples normozoospermia was the most frequent finding (47%). In the samples with asthenozoospermia, granulocytes predominated, whereas in those with oligozoospermia and azoospermia a reduction in the number of macrophages and lymphocytes was observed, suggesting an obstructive process at the level of epididymis and/or vas deferens where these leucocytes are mostly produced. In the case of hypofunction of the seminal vesicles there was a predominance in granulocytes. The increased levels of each type of leucocytes affected seminal quality only when seminal vesicles were affected. Only the elevated granulocytes count was related to a decrease in sperm motility. In those samples with leucocytospermia, positive antisperm antibodies (ASA) were associated with low sperm motility, low sperm normal morphology, and low value of seminal corrected fructose, whereas, in the absence of leucocytospermia, ASA, were more related to low sperm counts. These data suggest that granulocytes were more related to seminal vesicles dysfunction and sperm motility changes, and that ASA may be observed in the presence or absence of leucocytospermia.  相似文献

Preparative temperature rising elution fractionation (TREF) on commercial linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) samples has been performed. The resulting fractions exhibited a bimodal and a unimodal distribution, respectively. Two LLDPE fractions of low (5 CH3/1000 C) and high (21 CH3/1000 C) short-chain branching content were solution-mixed with the LDPE central fraction (16 CH3/1000 C). Indirect evidence based on differential scanning calorimetry results suggest that the fractions with similar branch contents are more miscible than those with dissimilar ones.  相似文献

The contribution of non-specific suppressor mechanisms to the overall immunoregulatory defect observed in lepromatous leprosy was evaluated. Con A-induced suppression was assayed using the standard two-stage test in 27 lepromatous leprosy patients, 19 of them during the quiescent stage (LL) and eight during erythema nodosum lepromatosum (ENL). Lymphocytes from normal individuals react in this assay, yielding higher suppression as the numbers of Con A-induced suppressor cells (Leu 2a+ cells) increase. In contrast, two patterns of response were observed in both LL and ENL patients: those giving lower suppression as the number of suppressor cells increased (LL-A and ENL-A) and those responding with the normal pattern (LL-B and ENL-B). The abnormal dose-response profile was not related to the disease stage, as both ENL and LL patients were included in groups with normal or atypical response. Reaction of the potential suppressor cells with anti-Leu 2a antibody abolished suppression in LL-B and normals, whereas Con A-induced suppression was unchanged or higher in ENL-A, ENL-B and LL-A, indicating that in these patients Leu 2a+ cells interfered with the generation of Con A-induced suppression. The contribution of spontaneous suppression was examined and it was shown that suppressor activity in the absence of Con A stimulus was higher in ENL (both ENL-A and ENL-B) and LL-A. Thus, it appears that the occurrence of high spontaneous suppressor activity, probably related to in vivo activation, is associated with a relative inability to generate de novo suppression after Con A stimulation in these patients.  相似文献

The pathogenesis associated with Helicobacter pylori infection requires consistent contact with the gastric epithelium. Although several cell surface receptors have been suggested to play a role in adhesion, the bacterium-host interactions that elicit host responses are not well defined. This study investigated the interaction of H. pylori with the class II major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-associated invariant chain (Ii; CD74), which was found to be highly expressed by gastric epithelial cells. Bacterial binding was increased when CD74 surface expression was increased by gamma interferon (IFN-gamma) treatment or by fibroblast cells transfected with CD74, while binding was decreased by CD74 blocking antibodies, enzyme cleavage of CD74, and CD74-coated bacteria. H. pylori was also shown to bind directly to affinity-purified CD74 in the absence of class II MHC. Cross-linking of CD74 and the engagement of CD74 were verified to stimulate IL-8 production by unrelated cell lines expressing CD74 in the absence of class II MHC. Increased CD74 expression by cells increased IL-8 production in response to H. pylori, and agents that block CD74 decreased these responses. The binding of H. pylori to CD74 presents a novel insight into an initial interaction of H. pylori with the gastric epithelium that leads to upregulation of inflammatory responses.  相似文献

We have previously shown that concanavalin A (ConA) induction of suppressor cell activity is impaired in patients with lepromatous leprosy (LL). In this study, we demonstrated that the proportion of cells bearing the Leu8 antigen (associated with suppressor-inducer cells) is low in LL patients and tends to normalize during the erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL) episode. Antigen-induced suppressor cell function was evaluated by a two-stage assay. In the first stage, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) were cultured for 5 days either in the presence of gamma-irradiated Mycobacterium leprae or in tissue culture medium as a control. In the second stage, mitomycin C-treated suppressor or control cells were added to phytohemagglutinin (PHA)- or ConA-stimulated autologous PBMC. The results indicate that the ability of M. leprae to induce suppressor activity was lower in LL patients than in patients with tuberculoid (TT) and intermediate clinical (BB, BL, BT) forms and Mycobacterium bovis BCG-immunized normal controls. In ENL patients, the percent suppression was between that of TT and normal individuals. M. leprae-induced suppression was more effective on ConA- than on PHA-triggered T-cell proliferation in all groups. In contrast, normal PBMC cultured for 5 days in RPMI 1640 medium (N-C) and cells from patients with leprosy (TT-C and LL-C) had effects of their own on PHA- or ConA-induced proliferation. LL-C depressed the response to ConA and enhanced PHA-induced proliferation of autologous cells. Conversely, TT-C reduced PHA-induced proliferation and increased the ConA response. Suppression of proliferation could not be overcome with exogenous interleukin-2 and was not related to the induction of the Tac antigen. The abilities of LL, TT, ENL, and normal cells to proliferate upon PHA or ConA stimulus were similar, indicating that the defect in the generation of in vitro suppression by M. leprae in LL patients occurred during the induction period (step 1 of assay).  相似文献
