Blastomogenic action of heavy vanadium-rich petroleum and its processing products

The contributors performed a study of the blastomogenic properties of the heavy high vanadium oil processed at different temperatures. Skin applications of the oil and oil products in hybrid mice induced skin tumours in 27.5 (48.7%), pregastric--6.4 (7.6%), genital--15.4 (21.1%) cases. It was established that high temperatures of oil sublimation increased the benzopyrene contents and the oil products' blastomogenic activity.     

Intraoperative dilatation of the ilio-femoral segment combined with reconstructive operations on the femoral arteries in "multi-level" lesions in patients from the risk group

The authors analyse experience in the treatment of 96 patients at an increased risk of intervention. Ischemia of the lower extremities with relatively maintained peripheral vascular bed was the main criterion of an indicated operation. The malleolar systolic pressure index of at least 0.35 +/- 0.15 was considered essential in this case. With consideration for the risk, the interventions were carried out mainly under peridural anesthesia. Intraoperative dilatation of the iliac arteries was conducted under radiotelecontrol in combination with profundoplasty, thrombendarterectomy from the femoral arteries, and femoropopliteal autovenoplasty. The efficacy of the operations was appraised by intraoperative angiography, electromanometry, and blood flow measurement. The results were studied in follow-up periods of up to 3 years. In the group of 96 patients 8 had poor results. Amputation of the extremity was performed in different periods.     

Sympathectomy and intra-arterial perfusion therapy in critical ischemia of the lower limbs

The results of 177 sympathectomies fulfilled in 152 patients with critical ischemia of the lower extremities are presented. Good and satisfactory results were obtained in 69.3% of patients after lumbar sympathectomy only. When the operation was combined with prolonged intraarterial catheter therapy positive effects were noted in 79.7% of the cases. This combined method of treatment is thought to be expedient for patients with the IV degree ischemia.

Space-time water monitoring system at the Iriklinsk hydroelectric power station

The Microbiosensor B 17677 F test system was applied to make a space-time monitoring of the biotoxicity of water used for production and everyday purposes at the Iriklinsk hydroelectric power station (IHEPS) and to identify the leading causes determining the biotoxicity of tested samples. There were seasonal variations in the biotoxicity with the maximum in spring and with minimum in winter and spring and a relationship of the spring rise in the biotoxicity to water pH changes. There was also an association of the certain values of the biotoxicity of industrial water with the concentration of petroleum products that are major pollutants at the IHEPS. The datum points that characterize the maximum level of technogenic exposure were identified.     

Optimization of surgical treatment of suppurative-necrotic lesions of the foot in patients with diabetes mellitus

The analysis of treatment results in 559 patients with diabetes mellitus complicated by foot pyonecrotic lesions was carried out. Surgical treatment was performed in 448 patients considering route of infection spread (basic group), conventional methods of treatment were used in 111 patients (control group). It is shown that one of the causes of unsuccessful treatment results was the infection spread from foot to leg by toes tendons and synovial sheaths. The study of microbial contamination in wound exudate, distal and proximal sites of tendons revealed a significant difference in proximal-distal gradient for aerobes (2.8 +/- 0.19 lg/g) and anaerobes (1.71 +/- 0.16 lg/g, p < 0.01). Methods of surgical treatment of foot pyonecrotic lesions allowing for route of infection in patients with diabetes mellitus were developed. Use of these methods allowed to decrease more than 2 times the number of femoral amputations, and to increase the rate of surgical interventions with salvage of limb's support function from 71.2 to 87.7%.     

Comparative study of individual characteristics of patients with borderline arterial hypertension and more severe forms of hypertensive disease

In order to compare individual health characteristics of healthy people and patients with borderline arterial hypertension (BAH) and hypertensive disease (HD) 867 TASS employees aged 18-68 (365 men and 502 women) were examined. Abridged variant of a multifactor questionnaire MMPI was used for the determination of the psychologic profile. Those examined were divided into 3 groups, namely, the first group comprised 96 patients with BAH; the second group 41 patients with HD of the 1st stage, and the 3d group consisted of 70 persons with a normal level of arterial pressure (the control group). BAH was detected in 146 persons (17.1%) and HD of the 1st and IInd stages in III persons (13.0%). The analysis of individual characteristics showed that an average profile of the male population with normal blood pressure had no distinct peaks by separate scales, whereas the combination of the characteristics in patients with HD (a rise on the 1st and the 3d scale and a decrease on the 9th one) was regarded as R-factor. The latter revealed a decrease in general activity and the presence of depression and asthenia The above changes were also registered in patients with BAH but they were less distinct and characterized by intermediate indices in patients with HD and the healthy people. No reliable differences were noted among females.
