The randomized response technique is applied on a voluntary basis for estimating the purchase of smuggled liquor in Norway. Of a total sample of 2330 respondents, aged 15 and over, about one half chose the protective option of the RR-technique. The other half responded directly to the supposed sensitive questions. The estimates from the two groups were weighted together to give population estimates for the percentage of buyers, and the quantities bought, of smuggled liquor. The resulting estimates were found to be considerably higher than estimates from a contemporary survey based on direct response only.  相似文献

Abstract – Cavities prepared on extracted human premolars were treated with different cleansing agents and by different procedures. The cavities were filled with a composite restorative material and microleakage was assessed by recording the penetration of basic fuchsin dye. Only acid agents which removed the smeared layer, producing an etch pattern on the enamel cavity walls, were able to prevent microleakage.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. The concentration in human milk of IgA antibodies against six Salmonella and two Shigella groups was determined in specimens obtained from Swedish and Guatemalan nursing mothers of three different socioeconomic levels. The daily intakes of milk antibodies by their children were also estimated. The results show that the concentrations of specific IgA antibodies in milk vary among the different population groups. There is, however, no difference in daily intake of specific IgA by the children.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. We report a case of pyruvate-carboxylase deficiency (EC 6.4.1.1, McKusick 26615) with neonatal onset of lactic acidosis, hyperammonemia, and citrullinemia. The patient developed signs of severe liver damage and died at 13 days of age after increasing metabolic acidosis and severe bleedings. The pyruvate-carboxylase activity in fibroblasts was less than 1% of controls, but normal activities of propionyl-CoA carboxylase (EC 6.4.1.3) and 3-methylcrotonyl-CoA carboxylase (EC 6.4.1.4) were found. To prepare for early prenatal diagnosis of pyruvate-carboxylase deficiency, the activity of the enzyme has been measured in chorionic villus samples  相似文献

Abstract— The distribution patterns of 90Sr in five littermate. 8-day-old Wistar rats were studied by whole body autoradiography. Rats were killed 15 min, I, 4, 24, and 72 h after a single intraperitoneal injection of the isotope. Immediately after administration, 90Sr was distributed throughout most of the soft tissues of the body. The soft tissue deposits had practically disappeared after 4 h. In the hard tissues of the body, 90Sr accumulated up to 24–72 h. Fifteen minutes after injection the uptake of 90Sr in the enamel of the teeth was highest in the occlusal and incisal regions. 90Sr gradually accumulated throughout the enamel and after 72 h its distribution in this layer was fairly uniform. Immediately after injection a narrow zone of radioactivity appeared in the dentin near the pulp. This zone broadened with time towards the dentinoenamel junction and included the entire dentin layer 72 h after injection. Initially, the uptake of 90Sr was higher in the dentin than in the enamel, particularly in the cervical areas of the crown. This difference became less apparent with time. There was good correlation between the uptake in teeth and bones, supporting the use of teeth as indicators of the 90Sr body burden.  相似文献

Abstract – The present electron microscopic study visualizes adherence of Treponema denticola, the most common treponeme of the gingival crevice in man, to human epithelial cells in vitro. The number of organisms adhering to the cells increased with increase in the treponemal concentration from 106 cells/ml through 108 cells/ml. Epithelial cells immediately after mitosis were particularly rich in treponemes. The number of adsorbing treponemes was reduced after pretreatment of the epithelial cells with hyaluronidase. The epithelial cells showed no predilection site of treponemal attachment. Treponemes attached preferably by their ends. Intracellularity of treponemes was not regularly attained. Treatment with ruthenium red, acidic bovine albumin or hyaluronidase indicated presence of acidic mucopolysaccharides on the treponemal and epithelial cell surface.  相似文献

abstract — To evaluate the "resting" pH and induced pH changes in denture plaque, soft deposits were collected from the fitting surface of the denture, pooled and suspended in water. Plaque pH was determined with microelectrode equipment before and after mouth rinsing with a sucrose solution. A characteristic level in the "resting" pH of denture plaque was found in most of 12 subjects tested. pH values below the baseline level were recorded for more than 2 h after a rinse. The pH depressions were more pronounced in maxillary than in mandibular plaque. Further, the pH minima tended to be lower in subjects with denture stomatitis than in. controls. No clear relationship could be established between the "resting" pH and the concentration of Candida hyphae in denture smears or palatal inflammation.  相似文献

abstract — The purpose of this study was to assess whether frequent exposure to sucrose would aggravate or initiate a palatal candidosis in denture wearers. Eight subjects with generalized simple or granular inflammation in the palate (inflammation group) and six with clinically healthy palatal mucosa (control group) carried out 1-min mouthrinses with 10 ml of a 25% sucrose solution four times daily for 15 d. In the inflammation group an aggravated palatal erythema was seen in two subjects after 7 d, and in another subject after 15 d. Among the controls a generalized simple inflammation had developed in the palate of one subject after 7 d, and in another one after 15 d. An increased number of yeast colonies on palatal and denture agar models and/or hyphae on palatal and denture smears was found in all subjects with clinical signs of aggravated or initiated denture stomatitis.  相似文献
