We investigated the phagocytic function of monocytes in 7- to 10-year-old children horizontally infected with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in comparison to that in healthy sex- and age-matched controls. CR3-mediated phagocytosis was increased in patients with HIV-associated pulmonary tuberculosis, independently of CD4 counts and p24 antigenemia.  相似文献

This research study reports the development of chitosan/carboxylated graphene oxide (CS/GO-COOH) composite scaffolds with nanofibrous architecture using the electrospinning method. The concept of designed composite fibrous material is based on bringing together the biological properties of CS, mechanical, electrical, and biological characteristics of GO-COOH with the versatility and efficiency of ultra-modern electrospinning techniques. Three different concentrations of GO-COOH were added into a chitosan (CS)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) solution (the ratio between CS/PEO was 3/7 (w/w)) and were used in the synthesis process of composite scaffolds. The effect of GO-COOH concentration on the spinnability, morphological and mechanical features, wettability, and biological properties of engineered fibrous scaffolds was thoroughly investigated. FTIR results revealed the non-covalent and covalent interactions that could take place between the system’s components. The SEM micrographs highlighted the nanofibrous architecture of scaffolds, and the presence of GO-COOH sheets along the composite CS/GO-COOH nanofibers. The size distribution graphs showed a decreasing trend in the mean diameter of composite nanofibers with the increase in GO-COOH content, from 141.40 nm for CS/PG 0.1% to 119.88 nm for CS/PG 0.5%. The dispersion of GO-COOH led to composite scaffolds with increased elasticity; the Young’s modulus of CS/PG 0.5% (84 ± 4.71 MPa) was 7.5-fold lower as compared to CS/PEO (662 ± 15.18 MPa, p < 0.0001). Contact angle measurements showed that both GO-COOH content and crosslinking step influenced the surface wettability of scaffolds, leading to materials with ~1.25-fold higher hydrophobicity. The in vitro cytocompatibility assessment showed that the designed nanofibrous scaffolds showed a reasonable cellular proliferation level after 72 h of contact with the fibroblast cells.  相似文献

A 5-year-old girl with hereditary spherocytosis presented with two episodes of transient ischemic attacks within a month. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging angiography revealed a left internal carotid artery and middle cerebral artery stenosis, with an extensive vascular mesh in the thalamic area indicative of moyamoya disease. Treatment consisted of supporting cerebral perfusion with blood transfusions, and splenectomy to prevent recurrence. Moyamoya disease is a very unusual cerebrovascular disorder in childhood and its association with hereditary spherocytosis is rarely reported.  相似文献

Objective. The aim of the study was to provide data on the fracture strength of monolithic high translucent Y-TZP crowns and porcelain-veneered high translucent Y-TZP crown cores and to compare that data with the fracture strength of porcelain-veneered Y-TZP crown cores and monolithic lithium disilicate glass-ceramic crowns. Materials and methods. Sixty standardized crowns divided into six groups (n = 10) were fabricated: monolithic high translucent Y-TZP crowns, brand A, monolithic high translucent Y-TZP crowns, brand B, veneered high translucent Y-TZP crown cores, brand A, veneered high translucent Y-TZP crown cores, brand B, heat-pressed monolithic lithium disilicate crowns and veneered Y-TZP crown cores. All crowns were thermocycled, cemented onto dies, cyclically pre-loaded and finally loaded to fracture. Results. The monolithic Y-TZP groups showed significantly higher fracture strength (2795 N and 3038 N) compared to all other groups. The fracture strength in the veneered Y-TZP group (2229 N) was significantly higher than the monolithic lithium disilicate group (1856 N) and the veneered high translucent Y-TZP groups (1480 N and 1808 N). Conclusions. The fracture strength of monolithic high translucent Y-TZP crowns is considerably higher than that of porcelain-veneered Y-TZP crown cores, porcelain-veneered high translucent Y-TZP crown cores and monolithic lithium disilicate crowns. The fracture strength of a crown made of monolithic high translucent Y-TZP is, with a large safety margin, sufficient for clinical use for the majority of patients. Porcelain-veneered Y-TZP crown cores show higher fracture resistance than monolithic lithium disilicate crowns.  相似文献

To evaluate the relevance of muscle weight as a functional parameter of motor regeneration, the nerve-dependent muscle weights were measured and compared with the toe-spreading reflex and the muscle action potential in different designs of nerve conditioning of the peroneal nerve in New Zealand White rabbits. From 100 peroneal nerves in 50 rabbits, 60 nerves received a conditioning crush lesion and 4 weeks later a test lesion--a transection with suturing at different sites. An additional 10 peroneal nerves were solely transected and sutured, 10 peroneal nerves were sham-operated, and 20 peroneal nerves remained unoperated for control. Eleven weeks after the final lesion, when the toe-spreading reflex had returned, the peroneal muscle weight showed a non-significant relation with the toe-spreading reflex (area 0.650, P = 0.149), whereas the relation of the amplitude (area 0.964, P < 0.001) and the conduction velocity (area 0.721, P = 0.033, left side) with the toe-spreading reflex were significant. Despite the lower sensitivity and specificity of the muscle weight, the possibility to measure the weight of all three peroneal nerve-dependent muscles separately represents a more detailed method of evaluation than both the toe-spreading reflex testing and the muscle action potential recording and justifies its use as a functional parameter in the early phase of peroneal motor regeneration in the rabbit.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess nipple, areola and breast skin sensation after breast reductions with two different superior pedicle techniques: a short, vertical scar technique compared to a long, inverted-T scar technique. Thirty-six women with a vertical technique (group I) and ten women with an inverted-T technique (group II) with a resection weight of ≤500 g per breast completed their 1-year follow-up. The four modalities used to evaluate sensation were pressure with Semmes–Weinstein filaments, vibration with a vibrometer, and temperature and pain perception on a qualitative basis. The evaluation revealed that 1-year after breast reduction, the sensation was either reduced, unaltered, or improved in both groups. In the nipple, the mean sensation was markedly reduced throughout all qualities in both groups with the exception of pain, which was enhanced. In the areola, the mean sensation was also reduced in all qualities in both groups. In the quadrants of the skin, mean sensation was improved in terms of pressure and vibration in group I (8.3% normal pressure values preoperatively vs. 70% normal pressure values postoperatively) but reduced in the lower quadrant of the skin in group II with the inverted-T scar. This reduction of pressure was also significant (p = 0.04) in comparison with group I. Apart from this difference between the two groups, this study showed that in breast reductions with a superior pedicle technique, the long-scar technique did not lead to a greater reduction of sensation in the nipple and areola than the short-scar technique.  相似文献

In the late 1980s an HIV-1 epidemic emerged in Romania that was dominated by subtype F1. The main route of infection is believed to be parenteral transmission in children. We sequenced partial pol coding regions of 70 subtype F1 samples from children and adolescents from the PENTA-EPPICC network of which 67 were from Romania. Phylogenetic reconstruction using the sequences and other publically available global subtype F sequences showed that 79% of Romanian F1 sequences formed a statistically robust monophyletic cluster. The monophyletic cluster was epidemiologically linked to parenteral transmission in children. Coalescent-based analysis dated the origins of the parenteral epidemic to 1983 [1981-1987; 95% HPD]. The analysis also shows that the epidemic's effective population size has remained fairly constant since the early 1990s suggesting limited onward spread of the virus within the population. Furthermore, phylogeographic analysis suggests that the root location of the parenteral epidemic was Bucharest.  相似文献

To improve phytochemical stability, polyphenolic extracts prepared from Salvia officinalis L., which is a valuable source of phytocompounds with health benefits, were embedded into mesopores of silica, titania, or titania-ceria materials. Ethanolic and hydroalcoholic extracts were prepared by conventional, microwave- or ultrasound-assisted extraction. The influence of the extraction conditions on chemical profile, radical scavenger activity (RSA), and antimicrobial potential of the extracts was assessed. The extracts were characterized by spectrophotometric determination of total polyphenols, flavonoids, chlorophyll pigment contents, as well as RSA. A reverse phase HPLC- PDA analysis was performed for the identification and quantification of extract polyphenols. The extract-loaded materials exhibited an enhanced RSA compared to the free extract after several months of storage, resulting in better polyphenol stability over time following embedding into a mesoporous matrix. Selected extracts free and embedded into mesoporous support were tested against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923; the best antimicrobial activity was obtained for S. aureus. A slight improvement in antimicrobial activity was observed for the ethanolic extract prepared by ultrasound-assisted extraction following embedding into the TiO2 matrix compared to MCM-41 silica due to the support contribution.  相似文献
