A one-year-old baby girl with one-month history of recurrent pus fluid exuding from her left preauricular sinus orifice, who failed multiple courses of surgical drainage of the abscess and persistent debridement for the wound, presented with MRSA infection. The patient was treated with linezolid for three days. Her pain and paresthesia resolved, and C-reactive protein decreased to normal.  相似文献

We studied the association of thrombin generation potential with platelet protease activated receptor (PAR)-1 regulation and platelet activation in 52 stable coronary artery disease patients on continuous therapy with aspirin and clopidogrel (n?=?42) or prasugrel (n?=?10). Compared to controls, peak thrombin generation potential was elevated in only 11 patients (p?>?0.05), while F1.2 was elevated in 26 patients (p?<?0.0001). PAR-1 and thrombin inducible P-selectin expression were significantly elevated in patients compared to controls (p?<?0.001). There were no significant correlations between levels of thrombin generation potential or F1.2 and PAR-1 regulation. However, there was a significant inverse correlation between levels of peak thrombin generation potential and in vitro thrombin-inducible expression of P-selectin (p?=?0.002), suggesting in vivo depletion of platelet alpha granules due to ongoing platelet activation.  相似文献

This investigation examines the role of carboxyl functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (COOH-MWCNTs) in the on- and off-axis flexure and the shear responses of thin carbon woven fabric composite plates. The chemically functionalized COOH-MWCNTs were used to fabricate epoxy nanocomposites and, subsequently, carbon woven fabric plates to be tested on flexure and shear. In addition to the neat epoxy, three loadings of COOH-MWCNTs were examined: 0.5 wt%, 1.0 wt% and 1.5 wt% of epoxy. While no significant statistical difference in the flexure response of the on-axis specimens was observed, significant increases in the flexure strength, modulus and toughness of the off-axis specimens were observed. The average increase in flexure strength and flexure modulus with the addition of 1.5 wt% COOH-MWCNTs improved by 28% and 19%, respectively. Finite element modeling is used to demonstrate fiber domination in on-axis flexure behavior and matrix domination in off-axis flexure behavior. Furthermore, the 1.5 wt% COOH-MWCNTs increased the toughness of carbon woven composites tested on shear by 33%. Microstructural investigation using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) proves the existence of chemical bonds between the COOH-MWCNTs and the epoxy matrix.  相似文献

Background &; aim. Metabolic abnormalities are common in chronic hepatitis C infection (CHC). However, the genotypic differences of these disarrangements in patients infected with CHC genotype 4 (HCV-4) and its association with liver histology and viral loads remain unknown.Material and methods. We consecutively enrolled 183 HCV-4 patients and 106 healthy matched controls; to compare metabolic profiles and assess pattern of association of HCV RNA levels as well as histological factors with the serum lipid profile.Results. HCV-4 infection is associated with higher homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index, despite that, a favourable lipid pattern, consisting of an elevation in HDLC and a reduction in serum cholesterol (TC), LDL-C and triglyceride (TG) levels, in comparison with normal matched adults. Significant fibrosis was independently associated with HOMA-IR, portal/periportal inflammation grade, serum cholesterol and age. Univariate association was elucidated between lower LDL-C and TC and Metavir activity score and between higher TG and TC and steatosis. In multivariate analysis, severe hepatitis activity, milder hepatic fibrosis, and triglyceride levels are associated with higher HCV RNA levels.Conclusion. HCV-4 is associated with wide metabolic changes. A proportional relationship is found between serum lipid profiles and hepatitis C viral load and liver histology in patients with HCV-4.  相似文献

The goal of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the efficacy of venous foot pumps in prevention of venous thromboembolism following joint arthroplasty. Using different databases, we found 13 prospective clinical trials published meeting our inclusion criteria. In total, 1514 patients were included in the final analysis. Venous foot pump devices are effective in prevention of venous thromboembolic disease after total hip and knee arthroplasty compared to chemoprophylaxis. This was especially significant in prevention of major deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary emboli rate. The use of mechanical devices like venous calf or foot pump, either alone or in combination with less potent chemical prophylaxis, on the other hand can reduce the rate of venous thromboembolism and complications of potent chemoprophylaxis like wound hematoma.  相似文献

The effect of garlic (Allium sativum) and cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata) extracts on the healing of gastric ulcer in experimental rats has been investigated. Thirty-three albino male rats (115 ± 4 g B.Wt. each) were used and divided into 6 groups (n = 6 rats); one was used as a negative control while the others were given aspirin orally (200 mg/kg B.Wt.). One of these groups was employed as a positive control and the others were administrated with 150 or 300 mg/kg B.Wt. doses of garlic and cabbage juice for 7 days. The length of the gastric ulcer, the volume of gastric juice, the total acidity, the pH value, the total bacterial count, and the histopathological changes of the stomach were examined. Results revealed that oral administration with both tested plant extracts reduced the length of gastric ulcer, the total acidity, the volume of gastric juice, the bacterial count, and the histopathological changes caused by aspirin. On the other hand, both aqueous plants extract increased the pH value of gastric juice. It is concluded that, garlic and cabbage extract could be used for healing acute gastric ulcer.  相似文献

Mitogen-activated protein kinase-activated protein kinase 2 (MAPKAP-K2) has been identified as a drug target for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop new classes of MAPKAP-K2 inhibitors. To understand the structure activity correlation of MAPKAP-K2 inhibitors, we have carried out a molecular docking study and three-dimensional quantitative structure–activity relationship (3D-QSAR) modeling. Both comparative molecular field analysis ( $r_{\text{cv}}^{2}$  = 0.602, $r_{\text{ncv}}^{2}$  = 0.955) and comparative molecular similarity indices analysis ( $r_{\text{cv}}^{2}$  = 0.546, $r_{\text{ncv}}^{2}$  = 0.891) models were generated using the training set on the basis of the common substructure-based alignment and gave reasonable results. The structural insights obtained from both the 3D-QSAR contour maps and molecular docking help to better interpret the structure activity relationship. The results obtained from this study will be useful in the design of potent MAPKAP-K2 inhibitors.  相似文献
