Because of its high surface area and combination of various functional groups, graphene oxide (GO) is currently one of the most actively studied materials for electroanalytical applications. It is not practical to utilize self-supported GO on its own and thus it is commonly integrated with different supporting carriers. Having a large lateral size, GO can only wrap the particles of the support and thus can significantly reduce the surface area of porous materials. To achieve synergy from the high surface area and polyfunctional nature of GO, and the rigid structure of a porous support, the lateral size of GO must essentially be decreased. Recently reported graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) can fulfil this task. Here we report the successful preparation of an SiO2-GOQDs hybrid, where GOQDs have been incorporated into the mesoporous network of silica. The SiO2-GOQDs emit a strong luminescence with a band maximum at 404 nm. The Raman spectrum of SiO2-GOQDs shows two distinct peaks at 1585 cm−1 (G-peak) and 1372 cm−1 (D-peak), indicating the presence of a graphene ordered basal plane with aromatic sp2-domains and a disordered oxygen-containing structure. Covalent immobilization of GOQDs onto aminosilica via such randomly structured oxygen fragments was proven with the help of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, solid-state cross-polarization magic angle spinning 13C nuclear magnetic resonance, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. SiO2-GOQDs were used as a modifier of a carbon paste electrode for differential pulse voltammetry determination of two antibiotics (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) and two endocrine disruptors (diethylstilbestrol (DES) and estriol (EST)). The modified electrodes demonstrated a significant signal enhancement for EST (370%) and DES (760%), which was explained by a π–π stacking interaction between GOQDs and the aromatic system of the analytes.

Background: This study assesses the effects of topical sodium alendronate (SA) as an adjuvant to the mechanical treatment of ligature‐induced periodontitis in rats. Methods: Ninety animals were subjected to the induction of periodontitis via the installation of a ligature around the mandibular left first molar. After 7 days, the ligature was removed, and the animals were distributed into the following groups: 1) NT group (n = 30), no treatment; 2) SRP group (n = 30), scaling and root planing (SRP) and local irrigation with physiologic saline solution; and 3) SRP/SA group (n = 30), SRP and local irrigation with SA (10?5 M). Ten animals from each group were euthanized at 7, 15, and 30 days after treatment. Histologic and histometric analyses were performed in the furcation region. The percentage of bone in the furcation (PBF) was measured. Immunohistochemical analyses for detecting the receptor activator of nuclear factor‐κB ligand (RANKL), osteoprotegerin (OPG), tartrate‐resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), and activated caspase‐3 were performed at the furcation region. Results: Compared with the other groups, the SRP/SA group showed less local inflammation and better tissue reparation during the entire experiment. There was more PBF in the SRP/SA group than in the other groups at days 7 and 15. Stronger OPG immunolabeling and weaker RANKL immunolabeling were observed in the SRP/SA group at 15 and 30 days. There were fewer TRAP‐positive cells in the SRP/SA group than in the NT group at all of the time points. There was no difference in the number of activated caspase‐3‐positive osteocytes among groups and time points. Conclusion: It can be concluded that topical use of SA as an adjuvant to SRP is effective in the treatment of experimental periodontitis.  相似文献

Introduction

Hydrogen peroxide tooth bleaching is claimed to cause alterations in dental tissue structures. This study investigated the influence of the number of bleaching sessions on pulp tissue in rats.

Methods

Male Wistar rats were studied in 5 groups (groups 1S–5S) of 10 each, which differed by the number (1–5) of bleaching sessions. In each session, the animals were anesthetized, and 35% hydrogen peroxide gel was applied to 3 upper right molars. Two days after the experimental period, the animals were killed, and their jaws were processed for light microscope evaluation. Pulp tissue reactions were scored as follows: 1, no or few inflammatory cells and no reaction; 2, <25 cells and a mild reaction; 3, between 25 and 125 cells and a moderate reaction; and 4, 125 or more cells and a severe reaction. Results from each experimental group were compared between groups and within groups to the corresponding unbleached upper left molars and analyzed for significant differences using the Kruskal-Wallis test (P < .05).

Results

All tissue sections showed significant bleaching-induced changes in the dental pulp. After 1 bleaching session, necrotic tissue in the pulp horns and underlying inflammatory changes were observed. The extent and intensity of these changes increased with the number of bleaching sessions. After 5 sessions, the changes included necrotic areas in the pulp tissue involving the second third of the radicular pulp and intense inflammation in the apical third.

Conclusions

The number of bleaching sessions directly influenced the extent of pulp damage.  相似文献
