Adjuvant arthritis in rats produces alterations in the motor activity circadian rhythm. Specifically arthritic animals show a decrease in the total daily motor activity and an advance in the acrophase of the rhythm. Slight changes are also observed in the power content of the circadian harmonic as well as in the amplitude.  相似文献

Several isolates of vancomycin-resistant Lactobacillus confusus from human sources have been described, but to our knowledge, no well-documented infection attributable to this organism has been published. A thumb abscess caused by this bacterium in a healthy 49-year-old male is reported here. He was successfully treated by surgical drainage and cephalothin.  相似文献

Esophageal manometric parameters are often examined using from four to 10 or more swallows to obtain a manometric profile without addressing the question of the reproducibility of these data. We asked the question of "how much is enough?" by statistically comparing five sets of 10 wet swallows (5 ml) each separated by 20 min in eight volunteers using constant infusion manometry. Peristaltic waves were evaluated for amplitude, duration, and velocity using an on-line computer program. Statistical analyses included analysis of variance and the Newman-Keuls test for uniformity among sets of swallows. The sets of 10 swallows showed no evidence of a training effect over time. Less than 5% of all comparisons (Newman-Keuls) showed significant differences. Using 5% variability outside of 1 SD as a cutoff (95% confidence interval) amplitude of normal wet swallows could be adequately defined by more than or equal to five swallows and velocity by more than or equal to seven swallows. Duration shows the greatest overall variability and required more than or equal to eight swallows for accurate assessment. These data suggest that at least five to eight wet swallows should be performed to describe "typical" manometry parameters for normal subjects.  相似文献

Radiologic and manometric correlation in "nutcracker esophagus"   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
"Nutcracker esophagus" is a newly described esophageal motor disorder seen in some patients with chest pain and/or dysphagia and characterized manometrically by normal primary peristalsis with distal contractions of high amplitude. The radiographic and manometric examinations in 20 patients with nutcracker esophagus were correlated. Normal primary peristalsis was observed radiographically in 16 patients, and a nonspecific motor disorder was diagnosed in the remaining four patients. Mild-to-severe nonspecific tertiary activity was seen in about half of the patients, esophageal wall thickness was normal. It is concluded that nutcracker esophagus is primarily a manometric diagnosis made in the appropriate clinical setting, and that the radiographic findings are normal or nonspecific.  相似文献

Flavonoids are attracting increasing attention due to their antioxidant, cardioprotective, and immunomodulatory properties. Nevertheless, little is known about their role in exercise performance in association with immune function. This systematic review firstly aimed to shed light on the ergogenic potential of flavonoids. A search strategy was run using SCOPUS database. The returned studies were screened by prespecified eligibility criteria, including intervention lasting at least one week and performance objectively quantified, among others. Fifty-one studies (54 articles) met the inclusion criteria, involving 1288 human subjects, either physically untrained or trained. Secondly, we aimed to associate these studies with the immune system status. Seventeen of the selected studies (18 articles) assessed changes in the immune system. The overall percentage of studies reporting an improved exercise performance following flavonoid supplementation was 37%, the proportion being 25% when considering quercetin, 28% for flavanol-enriched extracts, and 54% for anthocyanins-enriched extracts. From the studies reporting an enhanced performance, only two, using anthocyanin supplements, focused on the immune system and found certain anti-inflammatory effects of these flavonoids. These results suggest that flavonoids, especially anthocyanins, may exert beneficial effects for athletes’ performances, although further studies are encouraged to establish the optimal dosage and to clarify their impact on immune status.  相似文献
