Finasteride is standard medical treatment for androgenetic alopecia; however, no large studies with 5 years or more of follow up have been performed in Japan. The authors followed Japanese men with androgenetic alopecia treated with finasteride for 5 years to evaluate long‐term treatment efficacy. Of 903 men treated with finasteride (1 mg/day), 801 patients were evaluated over 5 years by modified global photographic assessment. Although the proportion of improvement was high (99.4%), modified global photographic assessment scores after 5 years of treatment were lower in patients with more advanced disease as measured by the modified Norwood–Hamilton scale. After separating patients into “sufficient” and “insufficient” efficacy groups according to the modified global photographic assessment score after 5 years (scores ≥6 and <6, respectively), multivariate analysis showed that independent risk factors of insufficient efficacy were age at start of treatment of 40 years or more (P = 0.021) and classification on the modified Norwood–Hamilton scale (P < 0.001), whereas presence of stress at start of treatment was a negative predictor (P = 0.025). In conclusion, continuous finasteride treatment for 5 years improved androgenetic alopecia with sustained effect among Japanese. Younger age and less advanced disease at start of treatment were the key predictors of higher finasteride efficacy.  相似文献

Two cultivars of Japanese parsley were harvested in different seasons; their antioxidant capacities were evaluated by oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) methods, and the contents of hydrophilic and lipophilic antioxidants were compared. Japanese parsley possessed potent antioxidant capacities both in hydrophilic and lipophilic extracts when evaluated by ORAC methods. LC/MS/MS analyses revealed that chlorogenic acid and four kinds of quercetin glycosides were major antioxidants in the hydrophilic extract. Lutein was the main contributor to the antioxidant capacity of the lipophilic extract. Antioxidant capacities of the hydrophilic extracts of both cultivars tended to be higher in winter because of the increase in the contents of chlorogenic acid and quercetin glycosides. An obvious trend in the lipophilic antioxidant capacities or lutein contents was not observed irrespective of the cultivar.  相似文献

Early onset periodontitis is rarely seen in infants, though often leads to an acute and serious clinical course when encountered in such patients. Autoimmune neutropenia presents systemic and dental symptoms, as depressed resistance to bacterial infection is caused by a disorder that reduces the number of neutrophils. This disease can result in not only gingival inflammation but also destruction of periodontal tissues, such as attachment loss, alveolar bone absorption, and early tooth loss in primary as well as mixed dentition. Here, we report treatment of a child with marginal periodontitis from the age of 3 years–7 years 9 months. No systemic manifestations were noted until 3 years of age, thus the patient had never received a detailed examination or medication related to the disease. Following examinations at our department, we referred the patient to a pediatrician at our university hospital for possible systemic disease, who made a diagnosis of autoimmune neutropenia. Although administration of antibiotics and professional dental care were continued, neutrophil count was not increased and progressive periodontal destruction was observed. Extraction of teeth with poor prognosis was performed and a prosthetic strategy for the missing teeth developed. It is important to recognize that periodontitis along with autoimmune neutropenia can appear in infants, even though the incidence is quite low. Early detection and early treatment of this disease is necessary for delaying progression of periodontitis and optimal occlusal induction of permanent teeth.  相似文献

The expression of insulin-like growth factor binding proteins (IGFBPs) in the developing mouse submandibular and von Ebner’s glands was determined by in situ hybridization and by an immunohistochemical method. In the submandibular glands, IGFBP-2 and IGFBP-4 mRNAs were expressed in the terminal end-buds (TEB) at E13–E17, concomitant with epithelial branching. IGFBP-3 mRNA was expressed in the mesenchyme surrounding the TEB; and IGFBP-5 mRNA, in the ducts. At E17, IGFBP-5 mRNA expression was observed not only in the ducts but also in the TEB. Similarly, IGFBP-4 mRNA expression was observed not only in the TEB but also in the mesenchyme. After birth, IGFBP-4 expression was observed only in the connective tissue and disappeared by P14. That of IGFBP-7 appeared at P1 and was observed in the connective tissue until P21. The IGFBP-5 mRNA expression pattern after birth was the same as that seen at E17, but at P21 IGFBP-5 was immunohistochemically expressed only in the duct. The mRNA level of IGFBP-2 expression at postnatal days was weak, but its protein was detected in the ducts and acini at P14–P21. In von Ebner’s glands, which appeared at the base of the circumvallate papillae at E17, only IGFBP-2 and IGFBP-4 mRNAs were expressed in the ducts and acini. Postnatally, IGFBP-4 was substituted by IGFBP-5 in the same region. Immunohistochemically, IGFBP-5 and IGFBP-2 were expressed in the ducts and acini at P14–P21. Throughout the study, IGFBP-6 was not detected by in situ hybridization, the immunoreactivity for it was observed in the nerve fibers of submandibular and von Ebner’s glands. These data support a role for these molecules as local mediators of salivary growth and differentiation.  相似文献

In Cryptococcus neoformans the DNA content of cells having tiny buds varied rather widely, depending on growth phases and strains used. Typically, buds of C. neoformans emerged soon after initiation of DNA synthesis in the early exponential phase. However, bud emergence was delayed to G2 during transition to the stationary phase, and in the early stationary phase budding scarcely occurred, although roughly half of the cells completed DNA synthesis. The timing of budding in C. neoformans was shifted to later cell cycle points with progression of the growth phase of the culture. Similarly, a deficit in oxygen was demonstrated to delay the timing of budding, prolong the G2 phase and cause accumulation of cells after DNA synthesis, but before commitment to budding. The C. neoformans homologue of the main cell cycle control gene CDC28/Cdc2 was isolated using degenerate RT-PCR. The full-length coding region was then amplified using primers to target the regions around the start and stop codons. The gene was called CnCdk1 and was found to have high homologies to S. cerevisiae CDC28 and S. pombe cdc2. To determine its function, its ability to rescue S. cerevisiae cdc28-temperature sensitive mutants was tested. S. cerevisiae cdc28-4 and cdc28-1N strains transformed with the pYES2-CnCdk1 construct exhibited growth at the restrictive temperature. Results of the sequence analysis and the ability of CnCdk1 to complement the S. cerevisiae cdc28-ts mutations support its assumed role as the CDC28/cdc2 homologue in C. neoformans.  相似文献

In order to examine the cholecystohepatic circulation of trichloroethylene (TRI) and its metabolites, we injected the gallbladder with TRI and its metabolites, i.e. chloral hydrate (CH), free-trichloroethanol (F-TCE), trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and conjugated-trichloroethanol (Conj-TCE), using anesthetized dogs. The absorption rates of water from the gallbladder were 25-30% 2 h after administration for all substances. The absorption rates of substances were 65-70% in the CH, F-TCE and TRI groups, and 40-50% in the Conj-TCE and TCA groups 2 h after the administration. Conj-TCE in the blood absorbed from the gallbladder has a tendency to be directly transported to the venous system rather than to be taken into hepatocytes in the liver. All of the administered substances, in particular, F-TCE might be metabolized to other substances in the gallbladder.  相似文献
