The modulation of drug metabolising enzymes by Masheri extract (ME) and Benzo(a)Pyrene [B(a)P] was studied in male Sprague Dawley rats fed different dietary protein levels. Two groups of 21 days old male Sprague Dawley rats were put on a high protein diet (SHP) with 20% Casein, and a low protein diet (SLP) with 3% Casein semisynthetic based diets for 12 weeks. The SLP fed animals showed lower basal levels of the Phase I activating enzymes viz. Cytochrome P450, Benzo(a)Pyrene hydroxylase, Benzphetamine demethylase and Phase II glutathione detoxification system viz. Glutathione (GSH) and Glutathione-S-transferase. ME and B(a)P treatment significantly depleted the glutathione detoxification system in the SLP group whereas an opposite effect was observed in the SHP group. Interstingly, ME and B(a)P treated rats in the SLP group showed a higher percent increase in the hepatic and pulmonary Phase I enzyme activities than those observed in the treated ME/B(a)P treated SHP rats. Furthermore, both ME and B(a)P significantly decreased the hepatic pool of vitamin A while a concomittant increase in that of vitamin C was observed.  相似文献

This contribution reviews the pathology and morphology of coronary calcifications. It summarizes the indications for investigation of the coronary arteries. The standard protocols for scan acquisition using electron beam and conventional computed tomography are described as well as various methods for evaluation such as the traditional Agatston scoring method and the newer three-dimensional scoring algorithms. Guidelines for interpreting scores are also reviewed. Major limitations of the reproducibility of the calcium score measurement are summarized. Future aspects of multirow-detector spiral computed tomography with retrospective electrocardiographic triggering for quantifying coronary calcium are discussed. Approaches to CT perfusion imaging in pulmonary embolism   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Computed tomography (CT) has become an increasingly accepted technique and is the method of choice for direct visualization of pulmonary emboli (PE). The quantitative assessment of tissue perfusion may yield more important information for patient management than the direct visualization of emboli by CT alone. Several attempts have been made to measure pulmonary blood flow by administration of intravenous contrast material. In this article, various experimental CT approaches for visualization and quantification of pulmonary perfusion are discussed. Ideally, CT will be able to provide both structural and functional information. Simple measurement of lung density before and after intravenous contrast delivery has been performed with single-slice CT technology using region-of-interest methodology. For electron-beam CT, a repeated data acquisition on a 7.6-cm lung volume has proven to be technically feasible. Using such dynamic scanning, reduced blood flow was observed in occluded lung segments. Color-encoded parenchymal density distribution in the axial, coronal, and sagittal planes was derived from thin collimation data sets using four-row multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT). Initial animal data from 16-slice MSCT offer a real CT-subtraction technique of the entire chest for the first time.  相似文献
