We report two patients with rare causes of Weber’s syndrome and review the relevant literature. The first patient presented with Weber’s syndrome caused by a partially thrombosed giant aneurysm of the posterior cerebral artery. The second patient was an immunocompetent patient who presented with progressive hemiparesis and subsequently developed Weber’s syndrome. Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) was eventually diagnosed. To our knowledge, the association between Weber’s syndrome and PCNSL is rare.  相似文献

Previous studies have shown that there was a correlation between low ankle brachial pressure index (ABPI) and the presence of the coronary artery disease (CAD). However, few studies have investigated the correlation between ABPI and the severity of CAD by using a scoring system. The authors aimed to investigate this correlation by using ABPI and CAD diagnosed by coronary angiography (CAG). A total of 213 consecutive patients awaiting CAG in Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital from July 2009 to November 2009 were enrolled in this study. The ABPI was measured before CAG. The severity of CAD was graded on CAG by using SYNTAX scores. The authors found a significantly negative correlation between ABPI and SYNTAX scores (correlation coefficient = -.172, P = .01). The authors concluded that ABPI appeared to correlate negatively with the severity of CAD in the Thai population.  相似文献

Introduction

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is an aggressive malignancy linked to asbestos exposure. On a genomic level, MPM is characterized by frequent chromosomal deletions of tumor suppressors, including microRNAs. MiR-137 plays a tumor suppressor role in other cancers, so the aim of this study was to characterize it and its target Y-box binding protein 1 (YBX1) in MPM.

Methods

Expression, methylation, and copy number status of miR-137 and its host gene MIR137HG were assessed by polymerase chain reaction. Luciferase reporter assays confirmed a direct interaction between miR-137 and Y-box binding protein 1 gene (YBX1). Cells were transfected with a miR-137 inhibitor, miR-137 mimic, and/or YBX1 small interfering RNA, and growth, colony formation, migration and invasion assays were conducted.

Results

MiR-137 expression varied among MPM cell lines and tissue specimens, which was associated with copy number variation and promoter hypermethylation. High miR-137 expression was linked to poor patient survival. The miR-137 inhibitor did not affect target levels or growth, but interestingly, it increased miR-137 levels by means of mimic transfection suppressed growth, migration, and invasion, which was linked to direct YBX1 downregulation. YBX1 was overexpressed in MPM cell lines and inversely correlated with miR-137. RNA interference–mediated YBX1 knockdown significantly reduced cell growth, migration, and invasion.

Conclusions

MiR-137 can exhibit a tumor-suppressive function in MPM by targeting YBX1. YBX1 knockdown significantly reduces tumor growth, migration, and invasion of MPM cells. Therefore, YBX1 represents a potential target for novel MPM treatment strategies.  相似文献

A new design of an alveolar distractor using nickel–titanium (NiTi) open-coil springs was developed and investigated to produce distraction forces against the tensile forces of porcine attached gingiva to simulate human gingiva. We subjected 15 mm long NiTi open-coil springs (Highland and ORMCO) with three levels of forces (light, medium and heavy) to mechanical testing in a 37 ± 1 °C water bath. Ten strips of porcine mandibular attached gingiva were subjected to tensile tests to determine the resistance force. The forces from the springs were compared with the tensile forces from the porcine attached gingiva. Data between groups were analyzed with independent-samples T-tests (p-value < 0.05). The tensile strength and the Young modulus were greater in buccal compared to lingual porcine attached gingiva. Compared to other spring dimensions and companies, forces generated from 0.014 × 0.036″ ORMCO springs were the highest and could overcome the tensile resistance from porcine attached gingiva over the longest distraction range of 1.6 mm. This preliminary in vitro study introduced a new design of an alveolar distractor incorporated with NiTi open-coil springs that could generate light and continuous forces to overcome the resistance from porcine attached gingiva.  相似文献

BACKGROUND Despite significant advances in multimodality treatments,hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)remains one of the most common malignant tumors.Identification of novel prognostic biomarkers and molecular targets is urgently needed.AIM To identify potential key genes associated with tumor microenvironments and the prognosis of HCC.METHODS The infiltration levels of immune cells and stromal cells were calculated and quantified based on the ESTIMATE algorithm.Differentially expressed genes(DEGs)between high and low groups according to immune or stromal scores were screened using the gene expression profile of HCC patients in The Cancer Genome Atlas and were further linked to the prognosis of HCC.These genes were validated in four independent HCC cohorts.Survival-related key genes were identified by a LASSO Cox regression model.RESULTS HCC patients with a high immune/stromal score had better survival benefits than patients with a low score.A total of 899 DEGs were identified and found to be involved in immune responses and extracellular matrices,147 of which were associated with overall survival.Subsequently,52 of 147 survival-related DEGs were validated in additional cohorts.Finally,ten key genes(STSL2,TMC5,DOK5,RASGRP2,NLRC3,KLRB1,CD5L,CFHR3,ADH1C,and UGT2B15)were selected and used to construct a prognostic gene signature,which presented a good performance in predicting overall survival.CONCLUSION This study extracted a list of genes associated with tumor microenvironments and the prognosis of HCC,thereby providing several valuable directions for the prognostic prediction and molecular targeted therapy of HCC in the future.  相似文献

CD34 is a marker for pluripotent stem cells also present on lineage- committed hematopoietic progenitors from bone marrow and a subpopulation of immature thymocytes. To characterize these early immature thymocytes, we have studied 24 pediatric thymus samples for CD34/7 expression. Three subpopulations could be defined from these T- cell receptor (TcR-) immature thymocytes: CD34+7++ (12.0 +/- 5.8), CD34- 7++ (12.6 +/- 8.6), and CD34-7+ (71.5 +/- 17.0%). CD7++ represents upregulation of this antigen and is expressed by cells of a blast-like morphology. Three-color flow cytometric analysis of these three subsets suggests the following ordered differentiation sequence: CD34+7++1-4-8- 45RA+-->CD34+7++1+ 4+8-45RA+/- -->CD34-7++1+4+8-+45RO+-->CD34- 7+1++4+8+45RO+. Early immature thymocyte cell division is essential in the thymus to generate a large number of precursors before the initiation of the selection process. We observed that both CD2 as well CD28 activation pathways were inefficient to serve as costimulant with phorbol ester 12-O-tetradecanoyl phorbol 13-acetate or interleukin-2 (IL-2) to induce the proliferation of the three CD34/7 subsets isolated by cell sorting. However, whereas IL-1, IL-2, IL-3, IL-4, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, and granulocyte-macrophage colony- stimulating factor were ineffective, IL-7 was a potent cytokine, alone or in synergy with stem cell factor (SCF) to induce immature thymocyte proliferation. The proliferation induced by IL-7 or IL-7 + SCF is restricted to the CD34+ cells and, after 4 or 8 days of culture with IL- 7, some CD34+7++ acquire the expression of CD4 and/or CD8, but remain CD3/TcR-. We also tested the myeloid differentiation capacity of these CD34 immature thymocytes. Using two different approaches, myeloid colony formation in methylcellulose and limiting dilution analysis in the presence of myeloid growth factors, we were unable to detect myeloid differentiation capacity from CD34+ early thymocytes, whereas CD34+7+ from bone marrow contained about 10% of the clonogenic cells present in the CD34+7- fraction. Together, these data support the concept that thymic CD34+7++ represents the earliest thymic subset of fully committed T-lineage cells, capable of proliferating specifically to IL-7.  相似文献
