Synthesis and anti-tuberculous activity of diesters based on isosteviol and dicarboxylic acids

Diesters based on isosteviol and dicarboxylic acids were synthesized and tested for antituberculous activity. Isosteviol and some of its derivatives exhibit appreciable tuberculostatic properties in vitro, the activity being dependent on the length of the polymethylene spacer connecting two ent-beyeran fragments. The effect of sodium nucleinate on the proliferative and specific activity of hybridoma cells in vitro]

Sodium nucleinate, an officinal preparation (Na PHK), added to the growth medium in concentrations of 10 to 50 micrograms/ml enhanced the growth of hybridoma cells in vitro. Na PHK presence in the cultivation medium in the above concentrations enhanced the specific antibody-producing activity of hybridomas.     

Characteristics of central and peripheral hemodynamics in infants with hemolytic disease of newborn]

Overall 82 full-term neonates (52 children with hemolytic disease and 30 healthy neonates) were examined. The general circulation was investigated over time (on days 1, 3.5-7 of life). Use was made of echocardiography and monitor studies of arterial pressure and heart rate; lability of arterial pressure and general peripheral vascular resistance were computed. As a result of the studies and correlations, it has been revealed that neonates with hemolytic disease manifest appreciable disorders of the cardiovascular system, correlating with the disease gravity. Earlier times of the closure of fetal communications were established as were the hyperkinetic type of +cardiac hemodynamics, arterial hypotension accompanied by arterial pressure instability and a decrease of the general peripheral vascular resistance which should be taken into consideration in choosing therapeutic measures.     

Vector electrocardiographic features in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

The examination indicated that abnormal Q and QS waves recorded along the azes Z and Y in the adjusted lead system far clearly reflected a predominant site of suspected focal and scarring lestoh in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) as in coronary heart disease (CHD) (the anterior site in the Z lead and inferior one, in the Y lead), however, the difference in their quantitative characteristics do not fulfil the goals of the electrocardiographic differentiation between HCM and CHD. To differentiate HCM and CHD in the presence of Q and QS waves, a characteristic complex of signs was identified: elevated waves Rx (greater than or equal to 17.5 mm), Sy (greater than or equal to 7.3 mm) of the total value, sigma Rxyz + sigma Sxyz (greater than or equal to 48.3 mm) at the anterior site of "scarring" myocardial lesion and increased waves Sz (greater than or equal to 20.4 mm), sigma Sxyz (greater than or equal to 21.4 mm) at the inferior site. Only "indirect" signs remained on VECG in the presence of scarring myocardial lesion concurrent with arterial hypertension in CHD patients.     

Synthesis and acid ionization constants of cyclic cystine peptides

Cyclic peptide disulfides of the general formula were synthesized from the corresponding peptide derivatives [Boc-Cys(Trt)(Gly)-_n-Cys(Trt)-OBu^t] by oxidation with iodine in methanol and by subsequent removal of the terminal groups with trifluoroacetic acid. Acid ionization constants of the obtained peptides were determined by potentiometric titration in aqueous KCl (0.1 mol/L) medium. All compounds have two dissociable hydrogens, corresponding to carboxyl (pK¹= 2.35–2.84) and to terminal amino group (pK₂= 5.61–6.93); pK₁, values show first an upward and then a downward trend with the increase in ring size; the opposite is true for pK₂, values. These trends could be tentatively attributed to the intramolecular salt bridge (-COO——-NH⁺₃-) formation.     

Oxygen-Dependent Processes in Monocytes and Metabolic Risk Factors for Atherogenesis

Oxygen-dependent processes in peripheral blood monocytes were intensified in patients with metabolic cardiovascular syndrome. This was manifested in increased production of O(2)(*-) and NO. Among metabolic factors (cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triacylglycerols, glucose, etc.), products of glycosylation (fructosamine) and plasma triacylglycerols were most potent in modulating generation of O(2)(*-) and NO by monocytes.     

Changes in lymphocyte chromatin in Down's syndrome revealed by the thermal denaturation method

A luminescence-microscopic study using acridine orange with a short-term culture of human cells showed that DNA melting profiles of the chromatin of intact lymphocytes of healthy donors are curves with maxima (F 530) in the temperature regions of 45, 65, 78, 85, 88, and 92°C (P<0.01). The melting profiles of lymphocytes of patients with Down's syndrome are curves with maxima in the temperature regions of 65, 85, 88, and 92°C (P<0.01). The absence of a decrease in the intensity of fluorescence between 78 and 85°C is evidently due to the greater degree of condensation of certain regions of the chromatin complex of the trisomic cells. The possible mechanisms of the structural changes in the interphase chromatin, of human lymphocytes under the influence of temperature are discussed.Institute of Medical Genetics, Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, Moscow.
